Actually in that second sale Jackhead admits he just got the package in from Japan so hopefully anyone who's about to spend 599 Euros would have the sense to check Yahoo Auctions if they were worried about price.

I agree in principle that it seems kind of shitty that someone's trying to make enormous profit margins on their sales, but nobody is being forced or coerced into purchasing those cards or that dev kit. The flip side is that we can post objections here - Jackhead has the freedom to turn hardware around at inflated prices, retro has the freedom to call him on it in this thread. All cool with me.

Earlier today I bought GC Twilight Princess for £4 at a Cash Converter. I'm going to turn around and flog it on ebay for £30 or so. Does that make me an arsehole? I don't think so. Which begs the question - would it be any different if I tried to do so here? I wouldn't bother as I think our members generally have better price expectations, but the point stands. As long as there's no deception involved (i.e. "I paid x amount for this, check out these forged receipts" or "look at these tampered ebay screenshots, this thing goes for ten times this much normally" etc etc) I'm mostly happy enough to let the market here decide.

Nice one. When I google my real name I get some weird weird articles. Some stating that I'm going to end up in a high profile court case against the BBC, some detailing that I'm a genius.

Some of them I was aware of, some of them I wasn't!

And how are you meant to do that? YJ doesn't have the ability to search completed auctions, does it? So unless someone posted a link to the auction here, you won't find it.

Absolutely, but my point was more on the buying something publically, announcing it on here, then selling it on here for a massive profit.

Nope - you're most likely to offer it for 99p start and if people want to bid it up, they will. That, or you'll list it at £30 and if nobody buys, then it's you swallowing the listing fee.

Well, that would depend. Are you going to brag about how you got such a great deal on it, and then IMMEDIATELY turn around and sell it on here? If so, then yes, you're an arsehole! ;-)

Most likely, you'd just quietly list it without a mention of only just buying it or how cheap. Nothing wrong with that. And there's nothing wrong with buying it locally with an intent to sell it on eBay, or on a forum, for a profit. If you're going to be sensible with your pricing, knowing what the going rate is, then that's fine.

Trying to sell something for a grossly extortionate price is not going to get you any custom. Bragging about a cheap purchase then immediately selling it for a profit may raise a few eyebrows. Putting the two together would be cause for people to start saying something, though.

Having said that, I would take into consideration a few things around here:

    • Kev very kindly allows us to list items for no charge, and therefore....
    • I would save money over listing on eBay.
    • I can (hopefully!) trust members a bit more than random eBay users, as...
    • There are several members I would consider friends... and I don't rip my friends off.

I was offered H2700s a while back at £250 each. I declined, as I thought it was too much. I don't think that more than double that price (i.e. 600 Euros) is a bargain, do you? That's why I wonder how much profit he's making.

AG often gets accused of being elitist by other forums.

Although I occasionally try to debunk this, I now say fuck it. Let's live up to it.

A ban poll seems more and more tempting by the day. I'm no angel, I say stupid stuff and I don't really contribute anything useful, however I don't use homosexual slurs or output exuberant ignorance and abuse. The forum seems to be filling up with some real cretins.

It doesn't? Eh, I don't really use the site. Seems like a glaring omission to me, to be fair.

I think I saw one sold for £37 BIN the other day so £30 should be fine. Most of the time BINs go for slightly higher than auctions of common items (like this) because BINs are on the spot, impulse buys, but as you mention there's always the risk nobody buys and you have to relist. I tend to sell BIN if I've got a good idea of the value based on previous auctions/BINs.

    Case closed ;)

Yeah, I'm sure it will be. Do you remember the game coming out? It was really, really scarce on release. I pre-ordered a copy at work and I think we were able to get one other copy. And that was all we saw.

A few months later, Nintendo had another batch pressed, making it a little easier to get.

Incidentally, I still have my first batch copy. Sealed. ;-)

Personally, not really something that made much of a blip on my radar - more interested at the Wii at the time (that didn't last long!). Though I do remember a mate of mine at the time having serious trouble tracking down a copy. I don't think he wound up buying it until about a year later.

Fucking awesome! I had Bangai-O HD "liked" on Facebook and they gave me a code to download the full game for free!

    Fuck yeah!

... and I don't really like it as much as the original, though. Still, thanks to this I'll save my points to buy Silvergun when it comes out.

Been using Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) for a few hours now and i really like it. Haven't had any problems so far and it also seems to run really well on my laptop with everything working as far as i can tell. Just got to get my chrome bookmarks from desktop pc and i'll be good to go..

Thinking about sticking to using ubuntu as my main OS on the laptop and eventually getting rid of XP from the dual boot should i not need it.

I play very little PC games on my laptop as i do most of my PC gaming on my windows 7 desktop.

So far i've been able to do everything i want with my laptop in ubuntu so can't see a need for XP any more.

A parcel was sent to me by Royal Mail First Class Recorded on the 26th, and it's still not here. Royal Mail say that they can do nothing until the 17th, if it still has not turned up. This sucks. :(
