It's the fact that it was pointed out that this was being carried out by non-Caucasians... there wasn't any need? If the crowd was predominantly Caucasian then nobody would have said anything, but because it wasn't people felt as if they had to say something.

And I'm sure that the rioters in other parts of the country are predominantly Caucasians anyway, yet nobody will say anything, hence the racism claim.

 

Re : London Riots, I do love the American media which made it sound like the whole of London was ablaze and that most of london was just a scene of looting and rioting... So glad that I can listen to the BBC World service at times to bring normality to things.

 

I know what you mean. I've been hearing about the riots here on the boards and thought I'd look up what was actually going on. All I could find were outrageous headlines, "London Ablaze", "London Burning", etc.

 

The problem here though is that as soon as colour is mentioned you always get someone playing the race card. The areas that went up initially in London were areas where there is a large black population, I don't think highlighting this is a bad or detrimental thing. The bulk of the trouble-makers in Birmingham were Asian and black, the same in Nottingham and Leicester yet in Manchester yesterday they were for the most part nearly all white.

As much as people hate to admit it, colour does play a part and quite a significant one. When over a third of reported street crime in London is carried out by people of non-white ethnicity, be it muggings, drug dealing, robbery, armed robbery and sexual assault and then on top of that 90% of gun related deaths are gang related and concern gangs made up of almost exclusively black males you can't really complain when race, colour or creed is bought into any resultant conversation or discussion, you're just stating facts.

The family of the man shot and killed on Thursday say someone should be made and held accountable for Mark Duggan's death. For fucks sake, HE WAS CARRYING A LOADED GUN!! How much more justification do you need? If he had been white nobody would have given two fucks, but because he's black the race card is played and it's just plain wrong.

In 1993, a young black man by the name of Stephen Lawrence was stabbed to death whilst waiting for a bus. His attackers were white. Had Stephen Lawrence been white though and is attackers black his death would have gone almost un-noticed, he'd have gotten maybe a couple of column inches in one or two London based papers and today no-one would remember his name, like the countless whites killed both before Lawrence's death and since.

Colour should never be used to differentiate any section of society, but when it's used to set an agenda or for personal gain why should it be that it's the highlighter who's at fault and not the person or people being highlighted? That's where your institutional racism lies, it lies with the ones who know they can come and go as they please because society is too scared to stand up and say no, as much as they'd like to think it they're no different to anyone else and the law should either be applied equally or not at all.

 

They were talking about a mall area on the network news yesterday. Apparently the only shop that wasn't looted was the bookstore... That speaks volumes to me.

I say this, because I've had awesome high school students in the past, but this year, almost all of the new arrivals are functionally illiterate "cool" kids with no interest in learning or reading, and some of them are, in fact, quite stupid. Also, many are very illiterate in terms of musical taste and knowledge, and they don't give a flying fuck about the classes they're taking.

I hadn't had this happen to me before. I mean, my classes are known for being anarchic and noisy, but people do work in them, and learn, and it's never this idiotic. The school where I teach has a very high level. What the fuck is happening to the world? Idiocracy is prophetic!

This being said, my 7AM class is awesome, and they're the same age as the other three. There could be another factor, like the time or the amount of people in class... but really, WTF? Are we, as a species, becoming stupid?

 

Becoming?.... I think you need to re-evaluate your question. We, as a species, have always been stupid, It is only now that we are slightly less stupid in such highly technological times.

 

99% of humanity is still stupid as fuck, there's just no doubt about it. It has always been the same though.

I blame child safety devices. It used to be if a child downed a bottle of bleach or rode his bike head first into a parked car then good old Darwin did his job and weeded out the stupidest among us. Now though Darwin gets fewer and fewer chances and this is the result.

It is a known fact that students who only attend late-morning/afternoon classes tend to be careless, low IQ, etc, than those who attend classes in the morning.

Overall, it's not about being stupid... it's about being lazy... what's the point of doing something if someone else is going to do it? That's why you have people who exploit the social systems compared to those who really need to use the social programs and eventually get to a point where they don't need to rely on such things.

Laziness is our catalyst for advancing technology.... why ride a horse whom you have to feed and take care of when you can buy a car...

I think I've completely bowed out of the gaming lifestyle.

Don't own a single hard copy of any game. Have no interest in playing anything. Find myself reading less and less about gaming and my visits to this site have decreased massively.

Maybe it's a summer thing, but I've been feeling like this for a long while. Was only a matter of time before it reached its peak.
