DLC used to be about EXTENDING the life of a game. Now it's all about a CASH GRAB without any intention of extending the life of the game.
I was shocked when I played Raiden on the 360. You had to BUY DLC for the two other ships. Now that was a fucking joke and a major rip off. WTF didn't even come in to it. I did buy the other two ships but only because I got the game for 800 yen.
And let's not forget about exclusive pre-order "bonuses". Remember future game designers: When you press a button, something awesome has to happen. It just has to.
Deadspace 3 is set to launch with $50 in dlc day one. They aim to get $150 out of people day 1. Plus the limited edition.
No, that's redundant. (unless you're talking about 4, the only good game in the series) "GTA style" games? Sandbox games are still going strong, Assassin's Creed for example is one of the biggest franchises going.
We have different opinions. No problem with that. I'm talking about the stuff like Saints Row, True Crime Streets of LA, Driv3r, The Getaway,... Sandbox games are here to stay, because you can make pratically any style with it.
And they announced a mission DLC, Awakened, on day 1 as well. How clever. Here's the PR bullshit: Awakened introduces “the franchise's darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before.” So, for "just" 9.99 you get something that everybody expected from Dead Space 3. But because the 3rd game is actually more action packed, we had to separate the scary part to DLC. EDITED: It seems someone found an exploit that destroys the purpose for micro-transactions. Unlimited game resources: http://www.destructoid.com/dead-space-3-exploit-already-found-for-infinite-items-244024.phtml Does anyone doubt that this will be "fixed" very quickly by EA? That's EA for you.
Saints Row 3 sold around 5 million copies. Although Sleeping Dogs, which is technically related to the True Crime series, sold pretty disappointingly.
Driv3r wasn't that sandboxie really. It was way more limited than the rest. Although it had free-roam driving.
I liked Driver San Francisco, it was like a cross between the older Driver games and the TV show Life on Mars. Of course, by that point it was nothing like GTA anymore.
I hated the new Driver. It felt nothing like the original, and the mind control/warp thing was weird. Don't get me wrong it was a awesome approach, but it should of been in another game. Didn't feel like Driver at all to me.
Dunno, maybe not feeling like Driver is a good thing, considering that actually doing the missions in the original was an exercise in frustration.
Like it or not Sony here to stay, They know how to do with gaming industry unlike Sega does. Sega became laughing stock releasing all some unnecessary console and accessory which put themselves out of business and I guess Sony made that happen quicker. Sega Saturn, Dreamcast were good. Dreamcast was best for it own time. Driver on Playstation was the beast those day.
You know Dead Space has gone all action-COD shit because YOU CAN ONLY CARRY 2 WEAPONS NOW What-the-FUCK? Sleeping Dogs didnt sell because its all chinese characters: we may like to pretend we live in a post-race world but the fact is race still matters As for DLCs and junk, isnt it hilarious how all those shitty social game startups like zynga that started this are going bankrupt? A friend of a friend used to brag about working there, and now his stock is worth jack shit! he even has to take a paycut "for the company"
That would be so sweet, but its not gonna happen: still have users and thus dipshit investors throwing other people's money at them
This is so true. Looks at some of the most popular games, Call of Duty, Halo, Madden. Every single year a new one comes out. And other games, they come out at $60 and within months many of them are reduced in price. However, that never seems to happen to games like Call of Duty. So when a new single player game comes out, people don't buy it cause they know if they wait the price will fall but they do buy the games like Call of Duty when they come out cause the price doesn't drop like those other games and it's live, its multiplayer, you don't wait for that. Anyway, modern gaming is very disposable feeling these days. The older games felt like they could actually stick around and still be relevant and fun to play where as most modern games, like Call of Duty, feel like consumables. I have two or three old Call of Duty games that are basically them same thing but now they are worthless and I'm never going to go back and play them as far as I can see. But I'll still go back and play NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1, Saturn, etc. But then again that's what the industry wants you to do now, buy more games, constantly. When you're done throw them away who cares.
