So I needed to reinstall Windows, but instead of going for the trustworthy Windows 8.1, I thought that I would try the Windows 10 technical preview. My thoughts so far are very good. Everything is clean and super fast. It's compatible with everything I have tried yet. My only problems were with the new browser - Spartan. At first it worked very well, but I did encounter several bugs. I would try the full version when it's released. Share your thoughts and experience about Windows 10.
I will boot it from VM image, since win7 and up they should support that. I hope all my games will just work so no, not experience yet, but I hope UEFI, virtual disk bare metal boot works and ill keep looking in this tread. How will we need to pay MS for 10 when its released ?
It's a work on a W8 mistakes. It's better, but still MS designers are worst. CodeAsm, Free upgrade from W7,8 in the first year.
Don't agree with that. Windows 8 is a fantastic OS, the majority only dislike it because it's completely different from Windows Vista and 7.
8.1 is nice, much of win7 can be found back and "Metro" is nice, great for tablets and phone, apps for all platforms is nice. hope to see alott of that in 10. Browser should be working perfect, better than IE, like Firefox and chrome, than its ok to have a choice. Free upgrade from W7,8 in the first year??? well as far as I understand they are changing their income plans for windows. The preview is free, yes, like many before it. Afterwards? subscription, that will it be or something like apple, buy hardware/get windows. buy upgrade for cheap, get more options by paying more for your subscription. I have no sources for the last part, but pay once, own it is gone. So I dont like people and news sites trowing the "free" word everywhere, Linux is free, and has great support. I hope to see great quality windows with hardware support almost everywhere. Gonna run this on my raspberry pi 2 . (hope the metro style apps work)
You transfer your existing windows 7 or 8x key to windows 10.. It will work the same way you have to download copies of the windows 7 and 8x install dvd's, you must enter a valid licence key before anything happens.. I think MS is just following suit with Apple, OSX has been free since Mavericks if you already own OSX (previously $30). The sad thing is, if the OS it's self doesn't make money two things will happen: 1: The OS will have loose ends 2: Expect OS level ads, this has been announced by Microsoft but prettied up as targeted products.. I'm still running Windows 7 on all my machines, I am going to upgrade to windows 10. I never went to 8x because it is empty, so many extra things you need to install ie: netframeworks and I really miss areo glass, 8x feels like Windows CE.. Windows 7 does feel like a more open OS, no stupid app store integration or any other BS! Windows 7 is the last "Offline Operating System"
You can update but it still will be unlicensed. W10 update is free because MS wants to use model as everyone else's: 30% from Windows Market app. HEX1GON, Metro is workable on Tablets but not on PCs. And KDE style and coherency is much better than Win.
I'm liking it so far, not as buggy as I'd thought it would be. I run it at the office and at home, as well as on my Lumia 830. And if your using a WP, be sure to download MS-DOS Mobile 1.0
It's still usable, you're making it out like it's completely unusable which it's not. It's just not efficient.
I might consider installing Windows 10 eventually. I'd like to see what the general consensus on it is before I install it. I have Windows 7 installed currently. I never installed Windows 8 because I don't like Metro. Windows isn't my primary OS; I use it pretty much just for gaming and nothing else. If Windows 10 turns out to be good, then I might install it. I have a legal copy of Windows 7, so I should get Windows 10 for free. It might be worth it just for DirectX 12.
Why does it matter what the general consensus is? You don't need to use Metro on Windows 8, it's got a lot of nice new desktop functionality in it as well. If your hardware supports it and all your software runs on it then there is no logical reason to stay on Windows 7.
In Windows 10 most of the Start Menu features I need access to are accessed by just right clicking the Start Button in Win 8/10, classicshell.net was popular when Windows 8 first was released and I use to install it for clients, but not in the past year or so.
Cracked versions of windows use a loader, basically the OS is authenticating with it's self not a MS server. MS authentication server relies on a white list, what happens is the loader software is spoofing the authentication/activation server. The OS still requires a "valid" key (something that is made using the same algorithm as a whitelisted key), if you try to use said blacklisted key on MS website it will say it's incorrect. You used to be able to download the install DVD's off msdn with no authentication but now you need to supply your product key, it doesn't auto add your key to the install medium, this is to prepare for Windows 10 "free" upgrade.. That's a VERY basic explanation, spoofing the WPA goes much deeper, as in pulling info from the bios and messing around with the boot loader deep.... Older WPA cracks just basically deleted the WPA files but the OS checks for this from launch.. The "free for pirates" thing was speculated but stupid self proclaimed "tech experts" and ultimately used as click bait....
