It probably is just 4:3 for the promo since the original games were 4:3.

Daytona had more attention than these will get. I expect them to be 4:3

It wouldn't make sense to do a project like this and work on porting loads of individual pieces of code when you can just emulate the various Model 2 hardware revisions and be done with it.

Personally I'm fine with 4:3 aspect ratio, I prefer to play games like this in their native aspect ratio. The netcode is all I'm bothered about, be much happier if they focused on making the online play smooth.

The AM2 boxset is something we won't ever see :(. I'm happy that Fighting Vipers is coming to the PSN :D, playing that with the arcade stick will be sweet!! These in 'HD' will be great also.

The original Virtua Striker has never been ported to any system before, though you're absolutely correct about all of the others in this latest wave of Sega's HD remakes.

Also, it was first reported months ago that Sega - or AM Ishoku Team, to be more precise - was following the progress of a certain arcade board emulator's progress with the intention of proposing a deal to its creator once compatibility reached a certain level of accuracy, probably to avoid a repeat of how Virtua Fighter 2 for PlayStation 2 turned out. I'd been led to believe the company was keeping an eye on Supermodel's rapid development over the last few months, but now it seems that wasn't quite the case... though Model 3 titles may very well still be on the cards.

Unfortunately for us, it seems there won't be any further updates of ElSemi's Model 2 Emulator now he's contracted to Sega. On the other hand, we shouldn't feel as guilty for actually paying to enjoy these fantastic games, and I suspect more could follow if this particular collection proves successful! Additionally, considering the potential benefit of Sega's in-house programming expertise and access to official documentation, hopefully any future packages will be more technically faithful than what had been previously available for ages (sorry), whether legitimately or not.

Finally, this latest version of Sonic The Fighters definitely isn't just a port of the existing Gems Collection version or the Model 2 original being emulated, as the teaser clip shows Honey fully restored from being a half-deleted leftover accessible only through hacking ROM data to what seems like a fully playable character.

Honestly I think I will get this. Of course it's ports of the sega ages 2500 series, but it is enhanced, virtua fighter 2 graphical detail a lot more accurate than ps2 port. Hell playing the demo for xbla nights yeah it's based on the ps2 version that was released in japan, but graphics and control a lot better. Be nice if they include online play. Here is hoping they make a xbla port of virtua fighter 3.

Now that you mentioned it, it now all makes sense. However Supermodel hasn't really been worked on recently (if not a new version hasn't been released). It works rather well in Alpha stage, surely do want Scud Race on PSN though.

I'm that way when playing games in their original format, but they're not going to be in their original format anyway because they're in HD. If I wanted to play the games in 4:3, I would probably just play the Saturn versions. For a 360 or PS3 version I'd expect some enhancements: I don't see it as being inauthentic to the original games as long as the field of view is actually widened (ala Daytona USA) and not simply cropped.

I heard about this a few weeks ago. It's Goodtimes. Even better considering all releases are online enabled :D

I would nearly have a heart attack for some House of the Dead remade for HD television sets.

The only 3 systems that might work on is Playstation 3 and Wii/WiiU. PSN already has "The House of the Dead 3/4" and you can play them with Move or a normal controller. The Wii had "The House of the Dead 2/3" they were ok ports nothing special. But I think is the closet we will get to a lightgun this or next gen.

I'd like to see Sega bring more of these ports they've been doing to retail. Then again they always do a poor job with retail these days (Look at the "Dreamcast Collection" or "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection").

The Dreamcast collection was full of shitty ports. Both Crazy Taxi and Sonic Adventure were very poor ports and Space Channel 5 was a port of the PS2, not Dreamcast :( If they did a model 2 pack up to the quality of Daytona USA and Virtua On, then I see no reason why it wouldn't sell. I'd buy it for sure as long as it had 4 or more games on it.

The saturn versions are inferior in more than just resolution and aspect ratio - they also pushed significantly less polygons than the Model 2 versions. Beyond that, Sega has added online play to all these games.

I'm 30 years old. When I'm not working or out with my girlfriend, I can't get friends over to play some VF2 on my saturn to save my life. But you're damn straight I can hop online to do so.

EDIT: As for demanding more than just a straight port - uh, did you not notice that Metal Sonic and Robotnik were added in the Sonic the Fighters section? Both were playable characters in the arcade version, but there was no way to unlock them without hacking the game. Similarly, Honey is in Sonic the Fighters now - her model was in the arcade original, but she was completely unplayable, even with hacking.

they intentionally showed off glitches from the Arcade 2.0 version of VF2 that weren't in 2.1 or any of the saturn versions, too, like Jeffery's teleporting throw.

The virtual on footage showcases the cannon stage not in the saturn version.

There appears to be a lot of work going into these ports, well beyond "the old game except in HD"

Do you know the difference between the shitty ports you listed, and the awesome ports you listed (and this package)? Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, and Space Channel 5 were handled by a cheapo outside port team, not within sega. Daytona USA, Virtual On: OOT (and Afterburner Climax, and VF5:FS)? Those were handled by Sega Shanghai's AM2 Conversion team -- the same people who are handling this collection.

It was a terrible port of the PC Version of Sonic Adventure DX that ran at 4:3 and at a low resolution upscaled to 1080p (not rendered in a higher resolution like Daytona USA) and they stipped out features from the original and re-sold them to you as DLC.

It was a perfect microcosm of everything wrong with Sega's older DD ports. Since they've announced a stronger DD focused imitative, their port quality has skyrocketed.

Sonic Adventure dx for live was a little bit glitchy. For instance if you went on the first ramp that spits you up before the whale I believe, depending on what direction you were coming from you would fall right through the ramp and die. I will say though it was nice that the framerate was a consistent 60fps instead of the the awful game cube port where it jumped back and forth.

I'm pretty sure that can also happen in the original, which is also "a little bit" glitchy.

It can, it's one of the most common glitches in the game.
