Actually I just remembered one: AMY It is a survival horror game that was released on PS3 and 360 and flat out bombed. The developer released it exclusively on PSN and XBL, however, they held a fundraiser on their official website to fund a later game they developed, a remake of Flashback. The first 50 backers received a PS3 copy of AMY and a TShirt. (There was no 360 disc). So that means that there are only 50 copies of the game disc in circulation, not counting possible ones owned by employees. The company would end up closing in November 2013.
Actually, if Square-Enix remove Drakengard 3 from their US storefront once it's released then that will go up in rarity. Part of it due to the store being handled by Digital River so it's an absolute pain in the ass to order anything from there and then the odds of getting your product due to it being Digital River and them not selling it in retailers. Europe only gets a digital copy of it. Japan got the 10th Anniversary Box set which was in a limited number as well (I have one of these already).
Ra.One: The Game and Move Street Cricket II. These two games were published by Sony but, developed in & released on disc only in India. Ra.One is based on a Bollywood movie of the same name. They're fully in English and pressed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe but were not sold outside of India. EDIT: Ra.One: The Game is also horribly buggy and a terrible game.
Maybe Red Seeds Profile(Deadly Premonition)? I remember buying it for the PS3 from Korea, luckly they made it region free because it wasn't released in EU/NA, only the xbox version was, until they released a directors cut for both platforms.
Wow that Ra.One truly is rare, I have never even heard of it, I could only find one seller on ebay from pretty much every site that sells PS3 games. Picked it up right away, it had 10 people watching it on ebay. Even ebay India only has 1 copy for sale.
I think there is rare as in "someone going for a full set will have a hard time finding" and rare as in "niche quality title will eventually be rediscovered and sought after". I would add the following to the latter category: PSN titles on disc: - Echochrome II - Wipeout HD Fury - Journey Others: - Dragon's Crown - Railfan - Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Remake
Was this released in Europe as well or is it Japan/Asia only? Anyway, also add Okami HD and E.X. Troopers to the list
I forgot to mention 2 games that I think will definetly be rare. Far Cry compilation Batman Arkham collection As far as I know these games didn't get many copies made. Definetely a good buy for fans of either of these game series.
Glad to be of service! Yeah it's truly rare, and truly terrible. . It was also available as a PS2 game, exclusively in India. I picked up 2 extra copies at launch to eventually use one or two as trade with other collectors.
I thought it had only been released in Japan and Asia on disc but looked again after I saw your question. Interestingly it was released in Europe as well on the compilation disc "Move Mind Benders" together with Lemmings and tumble. Nice. Other obscure compilations anyone?
Move Mind Benders? There's a compilation here in Brazil called "Move Puzzle Collection" with the exact same games: Ecochrome ii, Tumbles and Lemmings. It's probably the same thing with different name. There's also a "Move Indoor Sports Collection" with Hustle Kings, High Velocity Bowling and Top Darts. Here are their covers: Not the most inspired designs, i know. I wonder if i should buy those... By the way, the european and asia version of Killzone Trilogy had a single disc release for Killzone HD. Even had it's own box and cover and i haven't seen a reprint. Bet it's going to be rare. PS: What about Multiplayer Only games like MAG and Socom Confrontation? Both had their servers shutdown so they're like coasters now.
MAG & Socom might become like Hardware Online Arena for PS2, but then again I don't think they sold too many units.
I'm going to go with none. There must be hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, apart from small print stuff that only has a couple thousand copies in existence, how can any item be rare? It's like Conker's for N64 - the game is NOT rare, but people pay a stupid price for it. Games like that may exist for the PS3 too, but the only stuff I could imagine ever being "rare" are special edition prints of low quantity, sonic generations big box for instance. Eventually the online side of PS3 won't be supported, does the value then drop for everything PS3 related as it would be obsolete? With so many copies out in the world there can't be much that would be of value in future...
There will be rare games, every console has a selection of rare games even the PS2. Usually crappy games that where released in only one country, one single print run for one country, they have trouble shifting the first batch and don't make another.
Well they produced at least 10,000 Little Samson carts for the Nes, probably more. Go on ebay and tell me thats not a rare and sought after game.
NBA Elite 11 for the PS3, I have it on Multiman this is not piracy since the game was never released and therefore no profits came from it.
Demand is high, supply is fixed and only dwindling over time as cartridges are lost, destroyed, and are broken. That is how a game becomes rare.
