Yeah man all this panic is just panic. UK is one of the biggest economies in Europe. It's not going to go anywhere.
It's here on planet earth and it'll continue be one of the strongest and most prosper economies. It can't just tippy toe off into the vacuum of space.
This thing is just a hiccup with the usual wallstreet/stockbroker/forex sharks seizing the moment.

This happened due to all those xenophobic people who voted out. I cannot believe that the UK may be leaving the European Union! If this happens I may just move as far away as possible. The decision to disband from the EU will have serious consequences.

I think the GBP, the whole UK really, is very strong and powerful economically speaking and for traders and people that work with exchange rates, etc, this is a huge opportunity. I mean, nobody believes in something so bad happening to UK. It's a fact. Of course it can happen something really bad because of such decision, but for UK, it's against the odds.

The importers based in UK will surelly slow down their business but it will come back!

As for people from outside, I don't see a problem like some people said. It's like people outside have more money and buy faster your goods lying there in ebay for months. Also, people will spend more on shipping. And the England postal service is wonderful.

Just been talking to one of my friends who's a HSBC forex analyst - he thinks the bottom of the market for GPBUSD=X is probably about 1.25 (I.E. if if got that low, he would buy as many GBP as he could) - his biggest concern is that the UK corporate sector has a huge external debt pile, and a lot of it is denominated in USD. For those companies, their debt service bill basically went up 10% pretty much overnight - and this is especially a concern considering how heavily leveraged a lot of UK companies are.

In his humble opinion you should be lucky he didn't straight up call them racists. Because anyone who criticisez EU's immigration policy and/or the EU itself - is racist. Simple leftwing logic.

It was never about immigration.... I believe it was all sparked by in-fighting within the Conservative party.

The only certainties are that the UK now has a massive pile of paperwork to do all over again, which will cost time and money (lots of money)

Why anyone would choose to exclude themselves (or go back to square one, so to speak) from trading with a massive chunk of the globe staggers me. The UK has spent decades negotiating trade deals with Europe - and now they're just going to re-negotiate those exact same deals all over again - only this time you won't have so much leverage.

Big businesses that deal with Europe will relocate outside of the UK - making the financial city of London much, much, weaker over time - remember it's this part of the city that props up most of the UK. All of the wealth is in the south east - more specifically in the financial center.

On the other hand, most people here in Italy (and the rest of the EU) also seem to regard it is a particularly stupid move - and in time the rest of Europe will very much reap the benefits of the UK leaving the EU as many of the larger coporations relocate. The tech sector will be hit hard.. Add to this the UK's draconian levels of surveillance which they seem to love and I'm actually glad we left. Whilst I do feel sorry for those that will suffer most in the years to come - you only brought it on yourselves, well... through some very serious media-manipulation, of course.

It was a dumb move that's left the UK far worse off than before and it's current political/financial situation in chaos. Oh... and Boris may well be the new PM.

This sums it up rather neatly:

I don't think any decision would fix the amount of problems we currently have.

Stay in = current problems + new problems in future
Go out = current problems + new problems in future

Politicians are all liars, none of them are out for your best interests, if you accept that as fact and no matter who you vote in they will not do all the things that they promise and will most likely introduce things they said they wouldn't etc. etc. they are completely full of shit.

If anyone believes that we would have less problems by staying in the EU then im sorry but it would just be a different set of problems, no single action will fix the shit this country has been left in, the main point is that the people voted and that is what they voted for, whether you, I or anyone else thinks different this is what the UK wanted to happen and we now have to live with it.

The only real winners here are the other EU countries which most likely take a chunk of the businesses which will leave the UK once we have re-negotiated with the EU, the UK will most likely be in the shit for a while but will bounce back, we are still in the top 10 of educators in the World, we still attract thousands of students each year who want to come here to study, I cant see that stopping and thats just 1 example of what we have to offer.

    We will be fine

Once they've left what incentive would they have to return?

The problem with the UK is that few people realise just how important the financial city of London is. To put this in perspective, the UK has a staggering amount of private debt - that's mortgages, loans, credit cards where people owe money and pay lots of interest. More importantly, it's the money the city gets to play around with. In Italy, as with other EU countries, it's the reverse - they have large amounts of public debt but little private debt - the banks don't hand over money very easily, and people save and don't spend (it's this 'not spending' part that creates the problems here). If the UK is hit hard financially, as it is right now and will be even more, the pressure is going to be on the people to start coughing up more in taxes and interest rates will take a massive hike.

Cameron stepped down because he knows what's round the corner - notice his questioning in parliament yesterday where he simply diverted his answers, constantly repeating "the next government will have to deal with it" over and over again. He knows what's coming and he's making a very sharp exit.

The upshot of all this could well be nothing - if the government deals with the re-negotiations rapidly.... but when has any government ever been fast and efficient?

There's one model. It's called dictatorship. Very efficient. Has other issues.

I don't expect them to return at all, once they have gone i cant imagine they would want to return as they wouldn't have the additional support etc. that the EU provides.

We will create new companies that work within the new UK rules and regulations rather than the EU version, these new rules will give us more control over what we want to do but we will be at a massive loss for our negotiating power initially, essentially we will have to prove to the world again that we are good at what we do and this will take a good length of time i would imagine.

Very true, look at North Korea, it has some major *issues*

Can't say it's not efficient though!
(To be clear my point is that it's better to be democratic than efficient, but that being both is kinda infeasible)

very true, in terms of starving its own citizens to death its head and shoulders above the rest for efficiency

again very true, cant argue with that

Well, I suppose that the other side is also valid. I cannot see how any sane person would condone terrorism let alone sympathise with them. Calling my opinion "stupid" is very immature and ignorant towards me. If you cannot respect my opinion then you need to grow up.

Based on the experiences I have had, living in the UK. I hope you understand why I have chosen to use those words. I respect each and everyone's opinion highly, it's great to see other people's views on the situation. However, there's a lot of racists in the UK, I believe that the majority of them voted out which has resulted in this situation. I would like to clarify I did not mean anyone who challenges the EU immigration policies is "racist", there are a lot of other reasons behind why some people might have voted out. Stop making assumptions to twist this into to something it is not.

    Thank you.

One could argue that the more people "take advantage" of the temporarily low pound, the more it'll help raise it again.

In theory, yes - but I suspect in this specific case it won't have much effect simply because the overwhelming majority of forex transactions involving GBP are speculative or purely financial.

The vote was about everything. Immigration, economy, integration (federlization), etc etc etc
The racists you're talking about are a tiny marginal group who wouldn't effect any vote outcome. Wanting to restrict immigration is not xenophobic or racist. It's about economy and culture.
Yeah man, I know your experiences. It's the same in all of developed Europe. As soon as someone asks a question like "if they're fleeing war how come they didn't stop at Hungary, Romania or even Poland. It's peaceful there isn't it?" you're instantly branded racist and xenophobe.

Why would you be called a racist? They didn't stop there because there's no work there. Northern Europe is where you need to be if you're an immigrant.
