I just instlled my second board and i get no errors. Im still messing with options but so far quality looks same if not worse could be my tv and settings. My first install had a short on pin 11 then on pin 17 then after resoldering and rechecking it wont post on analog or hdmi. I still have 6 more installs to go.. any one else on here doing installs? 20151129_150402.jpg

This looks correct to me. Most N64 games only output at 320x240, so the image is low res to begin with. And then there is also stuff like dithering which will be noticeable on a HDTV. Imo, this mod is mostly interesting if you want to play N64 on a HDTV.

You could give Pokemon Stadium a try. It has nice 640x480 menus, so it will look better.

Also, you could give sharp pixels a try. It will scale the image with integer values, so the scaling will not blur the image.

About your first install: do you have a multimeter? You should check for shorts. If you short pin 12 (dsync) you will definitely have trouble getting video output.

Also, retrorgb posted a review: http://www.retrorgb.com/ultrahdmi.html

Probably interesting for everyone, but you can also compare your picture quality to his screenshots.

There is group buy going on over in the krikzz forums for those interested in just buying one board for a personal install. They are past 10 boards so the price has gotten down to $123 USD.

I'd be willing to sell a single board if anyone is interested. I paid 387 for 3. (387/3=$129) So if I can net $129 I'll be happy. Also already upgraded to FW 1.0.2.

    EDIT: GONE

I love this adapter, it is everything I could have hoped for and more and with all the options, I am so glad marshall took the 7 or so years to make it , it really shows. Also look a fellow long time member is thanked for supporting the project in the menu @APE . Doesn't work with the wide boy 64 , because the audio is encoded on the cart a sent through the n64 slot to be encoded with the already encoded analog signal and because the hdmi encode the raw audio signal into digital the wideboy never gets mixed in. It works with the 64dd.

I would have upload some pics of the install but I just yesterday put my N64 back together. At first, I thought I soldered something wrong. It turns out some of the newer N64 controls respond too fast so you cant bring up the OSD without a cart in. FW 1.01 fixed this. Then I started noticing some green artifacts on screen. Turned out to be a RAM issue. FW 1.02 fixed this. Now everything is great. Very Impressed!

There are a ton of different modes and settings to be adjusted.

Looks pretty neat. Not too hard either. I'd mostly be worried about soldering the hdmi adapter on, if you do have to do that, that is?

Well i was interested, but those traces seem to be too small for my skill set at the moment. A man has to know his limits.

You don't. The only soldering required is getting this custom flex cable fitted. Marshall stresses in the installation guide that you use traditional rosin flux only -- and a decent amount of it. After installing a few, I'd have to agree. Correct usage of flux is key. It's not terribly hard with the right tip and heat, but the challenge is adding just enough solder to the tip to make a good connection without bridging pins. But still, there's a fair amount that can go wrong for the beginner.

I still have one pre modded console available in my marketplace thread if you're interested.

Are they selling this as single units yet? If not how much does each kit breakdown to?
