Dynasty Warriors 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12836535 I can only fight so many hordes of enemies in a field with big sticks. The Gundam edition was a nice idea, if they applied the formula to a few other franchises I'd be quite happy. Gran Turismo 4 was pointless as are all of the prologue and concept discs. Quit dicking around with demo cds and make a game already. Tekken after no. 4. A remix would perhaps have been a good step, people stopped caring about the story after 3. King of Fighters does this well with a "best of" after so many editions. There is enough space on a BD-ROM these days for all of the MvC MvSF and MvXmen and so on to be combined into one big bastard everyone versus everyone game which would be the greatest fighting game of all time but of course that equals less cash and petty licensing issues.
I strongly disagree on Metroid Prime. I love 2D Metroid, it is probably my favorite series. But Metroid Prime was a fantastic 3D conversion IMHO.
1) Sequel != Spinoff (thus excluding CivRev, Link's Crossbow Training, the Zelda CD-i games & Hotel Mario) 2) Sequel != any old rubbish game (thus excluding The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe & Plumbers Don't Wear Ties) Technically, I'd bump off Wii Sports Resort and Guitar Hero because they are more 'revisions' than 'sequels' (albeit still legal money-grabbing franchises). I'll let you keep Spirit Tracks, though.
The later Might & Magic games (IX in particular). No idea what the spin-offs are like (although I played a touch of Heroes on PS2 today, and it wasn't brilliant) but the main line seemed to get buggier and more broken as the series progressed.
While some 2D games have been ported beautifully to 3D I would agree with you on the fact that a vast majority of them were and still are horrible . . . Casltevania for N64 comes to mind . . . that game just wasn't playable at all . . -Disjaukifa
-- Bioshock 2. Rapture was falling to pieces by this point and there was no Andrew Ryan. -- Halo 3: ODST. "Captain, We need some more money to hold us over 'till Reach!" -- Yoshi's Island. I simply can't stomach the game. It began the era of overly-bubbly Mario games and featured the loud, screeching cry of Baby Mario. -- Cheetahmen II. The original was perfect as-is, and aside from the flashing colors being infatuating while stoned or trippin', the sequel did nothing to add on to it. -- God of War II. It was a really good game, but it was a lot uglier than the original. The moves aren't as good and you get downgraded almost immediately. -- Guitar Hero, Madden, Call of Duty, "insert generic FPS". No explanation needed here. Let's add a feature/gun or two and watch them fight like children over it at launch! -- Sonic after Sonic Adventure. The internet has told this story enough, and I believe that it will someday be forced to reject any more information regarding Sonic's drunken stumble into Hell. -- Tony Hawk after Underground. Underground 2 was still pretty good, but it brought in that whole pulling pranks/Jackass aspect with Bam Margera. American Wasteland was all emo'd out. Metroid Prime has one downfall for me, and that would be the music. In a game like that, you have to explore the area around you for awhile. A lot of the music contradicts that by looping every 6 seconds.
I agree with you, specially on the Prologue thing. GT4 prologue was only released because GT4 took a long time, and GT5 prologue exists just to test the PS3 hardware, online servers and so on. In the end, GT5 took too much time, so they updated GT5 prologue to keep it running for some time. Anyway, the real issue is that Polyphony Digital remains a small team of less than 200 people. I guess this was fine for PSX games like GT1 and GT2, but not since the PS2. Every game since GT2 has been delayed or took too much time to be finished. Another problem is that PD does everything internally. In comparision, Turn10 outsource some of the work like 3d models, so they can concentrate on the game itself (career mode, features,... ). That's why they don't take long to release a new Forza game. Of course, outsourcing has both advantages and disadvantages. It's less work for Turn10, but on the other hand, the 3d models aren't as detailed as the ones made by PD. This is specially noticeable in some cars and tracks. So PD could outsource some stuff like the sound recording, online mode, trackside objects 3d models, menu designs... and them focus on the GT career mode, 3d car models and so on. Anyway, i really like the Concept series. From the menus to the selection of exclusive concept cars. Also, it helped PD to maintain a close relationship with the industry, thus letting them work together with Nissan, Nismo, Toyota, Citroën and many others.
Don't worry man, I slipped that one in there as a joke. As for weed.. EDIT: After looking into Prime's music, I realized that it was the Chozo Ruins theme that annoyed me to a point of repulsion.
Mario Kart Double Dash on the 'Cube and Mario Kart Wii on the, er, Wii. Awful track design, woeful control, terrible AI and shitty shitty shitty weapons. The N64 version was perfect so how they managed to fuck the next two iterations up so spectacularly is beyond me. Wank, both of 'em.
