All games work if the sources are reliable.

Random reboots to the bios screen is a SD card or motherboard pins that connect to the PSU. Try a different card or bend the pins back so that they make better contact.

Thanks for the responses b1uechr1s and krisk77, all other games on the card work fine, it's a 128gb kingston sd card. It's just these two I had issues with, in the end I deleted them and used the USA images from the tosec set instead and they worked without issue on the same card, so I'm not sure what was up but it's working now so I'm happy :)

I just got a GDemu, and I have having an issue with GDmenu only displaying The GDEmu 01 folder, but no other titles.

I just loaded up my 32gb SDXC card with about 25 games using the GDMENU_SD application on my PC. The instructions for GDmenu say to extract the 01 folder and inI file to the root of the card, which I did. When I boot up my DC, GDmenu comes up, but none of my other gamws show up (Just the GDmenu selection).

Any idea how to get GDmenu to display all my games?

Also, though I am pretty sure I have the latest firmware on my GDemu, I can't seem to run the latest firmware update. I put the GDEMU.fw file on the root of my SD, turn on my Dreamcast, but no updating.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

gdmenu goes in the 01 folder, the ini in the root of the sdcard.
what files are you using, gdi or cdi?
try first with 2 games manualy copying in the 02 and 03 folder, see if they works.

If your using GDMENU_SD , make sure the menu button is checked and it will put the Menu in the right place automatically for you.

I personally make sure its a fresh formatted SD card with nothing else on it, also, make sure you are pushing the little sliding switch on the SD card down to the LOCK position, otherwise the GDEMU doesn't know there is a firmware update on the SD card.

you must read the manual on the gdemu website, everything is explained there for updating your fw.

    Guys,

as far as GDmenu not working, GDmenu is in the 01 folder, and the ini is in the root directory, as I said in my earlier post. I have followed the instructions on how to use GDMENU_SD, and I have the menu box checked. The games I am using are GDI's from the TruRip collection, and they all work when not using GDmenu. They just don't show up in GDmenu. My 32GB card is a SanDisk class 4 SDHC 32GB card. I have also tried a 2GB card and 16GB card, once with 2 games on there, and another time with 3 or 4 games on there. Still the same issue. I formatted all 3 of my cards for FAT32 format using FAT32Format DOS utility.

As far as the firmware update, I have tried 3 different cards with the latest firmware (file name GDEMU.fw) being the only thing on the card, and the lock switch down, but nothing happens. I also tried it with games and GDmenu on the card.

Update: I copied a GDI game to my SD card manually into a folder named 02, renamed the GDI to disc.GDI, bit GDmenu still only displays 01 GDMenu.

Your responses are a little vague regarding the fw update because nothing is displayed on-screen, if that's what you mean by nothing happens??

All you do is put the correctly named file on the root of the sd card, lock the card and power on. Watch for a blinking LED, which will then change to 1/2 sec on 1/2 sec off, which will then tell you it's flashed. Take the card out and unlock it and remove the fw update file.

    (1) Format the card(s) as fat32 32k cluster or even 64k cluster size.

    (2) Forget GDmenu for now and instead test each folder using the default way of loading the GDI's.

    (3) create a blank 01 folder, and make three others i.e 02, 03, 04 and put whatever GDI dumps you want in each of them (remember no sub folders, just copy the game data to the numbered ones and rename the gdi file to disc.gdi for all titles you copy over.

    (3) Boot the console, which should take you to the main bios screen and then test each game via the ode button. If that works then the issue is not the ode or sd card and is an error on you're side that you need to find out. GDmenu is self explanatory and there is nothing to it to set it up, yet the main thing right is do what I suggested first by using the device without the gdmenu.

I have the trurip set and they work flawlessly on my GDemu ode.

Edit: must have overlooked the part were you mentioned they all work without it, so basically, it's a problem when you're using the gdmenu software, so all I can suggest is start over and read over the tutorial for it.

    Krisk77,

As I mentioned above, I got the firmware update working. And I have already manually transferred games to my card, created a numbered folder for each (02, 03, 04, etc), And named the GDI file to disc.gdi

Using the SD card maker generates a menu that can display all my games, but every game I try reverts back to the GDMenu screen. If I transfer GDmenu manually to the card, as well as manually transferring games to the card, GDmenu only shows the 01 GDmenu folder. I have tried 4 differed SD cards, all SanDisk (1gb, 2gb, 16gb, and 32gb)

No matter what the case, if I use the button for switching games on the back of my DC to manually select games, the game works.

When you have the app open, does it show the game(s) on the list when you drag & drop them? before you create the sd card. I heard some dumps "redump" if I remember have problems with some games copying over. However, House of the Dead 2 (trurip) is the only one I had fail on me to copy over to the list.

An example of correct filenames for GDI image:

    • track01.bin
    • track03.bin
    • disc.gdi
    • track02.raw

Again, the only thing GDmenu shows is the 01 GDmenu folder, whether I drag and drop games (and I rename the GDI file to disc.gdi, and my file structure for each game is exactly like yours), or if I use the SD card maker.

The only time I can see games listed in GDmenu, is when I use the SD card maker to prepare/transfer games, but every game I try resets back to the GDmenu screen.

I have gotten to the point where I will probably just have to use the button on the back of my Dreamcast, and forget about using GDmenu.

One thing that I noticed, is that after I did the firmware update, deleted the firmware file, and booted up my Dreamcast (with GDemu on the card), it never goes to the Loading screen with black background - it just goes straight to the GDmenu screen.

That's an odd behavior, my best guess is that the commands to change disc images are not being issued correctly, seeing as only the GDMENU entry shows up when running it as a stand alone, without using Madsheep's GDEMU_SD to build the game list. In theory this should only happen if you have a fairly old firmware (likely prior to v5.8.1), but that would be very unusual.

One quick test you can perform is, when running the image built with Madsheep's program (with built-in game list) simply select a game on the list but instead of hitting (A) to boot it, press (Y) to go back to the system menu and from there either check the disc texture in the music player or hit play to see if a disc change happened at all.

Anyway, I'll PM you later with a debug build that has some features I was working on a while back, with it you'll be able to see what firmware version your GDEMU has currently.

One thing that some probably don't know, is that you don't need to rename every image to "disc" anymore, in fact it has been that way since as far back as a beta of v5.10.0, but I guess Deunan forgot to mention it when he made it public.

Also, like it was previously mentioned stay away from redump rips, they tried to fix what wasn't broken.

I am using TruRip GDI's. They work if I just use the button on the back of my DC to select the folder to boot. These same images also work on my HDD modded DC. I updated to the latest version of the GDemu firmware twice on 2 different SD cards.

GDemu just isn't working for me no matter what I try.

    *edit*
I just formatted my 32gb SD card with 64k cluster size, ran the SD maker app, and while games show up in the GDmenu list, they restart back to the GDemu menu. When I exit the GDmenu by pressing Y, that also resets back to the GDmenu. I have now tried an older version of GDmenu (0.5.1), and same thing.

    My GDemu is a v5.2

Use dumpcast rips. Those are properly made. Then if you still got the problem you can eliminate the disc images.

I read Dumpcast images aren't as good. Besides, I,really don't believe that it is an issue with my Trurip GDI images, since they work when I don't use GDEMU

Open up your GDEMU.ini file on the root of your SD card and see if it has the line "reset_goto = 1" in it.
If it has this line try deleting it and then saving the ini file - as it sounds like your dreamcast is doing a reset when you press 'A' on the menu - and of course if you have this line present in your ini file then a reset will always take you back to folder 1.

Did that, and no change. I confirmed with neroacid that my GDemu has the latest firmware.

    *edit*

Per neroacid, I loaded up GDmenu, pressed the disc switch button, and I was able to load Elemental Gimmick Gear. I used SD Maker in this casw, because manually copying GDmenu to my SD still results in only 01 GDmenu to show up. I am next gonna load multiple games on my SD and try loading more games via this method.

Please test dumpcast/TOSEC to be sure. Pretty sure I heard complaints about trurips on this thread. At the minimum , get a dump that's confirmed working elsewhere.

I have an interesting update. It was suggested I try Tosec images. I got one (Elemental Gimmick Gear), and transfered it to my 32gb card. It worked, no issue. I added 2 more GDI from my Trurip collection, and they also worked. Then I added more, and it went back to the issue of just displaying 01 GDmenu.

So, I started over on a 128gb SanDisk Ultra card, and I added the Tosec image + 3 Trurip GDI, and no issues. I added another 4 more Trurip GDI, no issues. So now I am in the process of adding 20 more Trurip GDI, and I will report results once done.
