Anybody having issues with the NTSC-U release of Dead or Alive 2? Tried multiple images, but all the same issue.

Normal fight -> Time is up immediately at round start, so you can't actually fight
Timed fight -> Timer does work, but sounds are absent (no SFX at all) and every button is doing the same move, defense

There is something seriously wrong with this release it seems, am I the only one to experience this?

I have tried updating the GDEMU to the latest FW, same for the GDMENU (there is no recent one) and the menu maker.

Can't try anything else a.t.m. as my newly arrived Beharbros Toro VGA box is broken and I've sold my old one :(

Try booting DOA2 without any menus. Your problem sounds similar to what happens if you try to play Battle mode in PSOv2 with GDMENU: the time limit is over as soon as the round begins, so you can't actually play. Booting PSO directly solves the problem.

Thanks for your reply, I will try as soon as I've received the replacement cable from BBS.

Could you (or anyone else) confirm you have the same issue with the NTSC-U release of DOA2 perhaps?

Does it have a menu inbuilt or do I have to install one?

GDMenu is a program by @neuroacid, it should be the first "game" on the GDEMU.

Search for GDMemu and follow its instructions, or download @madsheep's program to do it for you with an included list. Look into his signature for links.

You can fit more games on your sd-card by shrinking the GDIs with the GDIShrink option of GDITools, check the link in my signature for details. It's not yet user friendly though.

Used the SD card maker on it, it had a menu option.

Will probs do more things with it when I can be bothered for now its just that program and bung it in a DC

Shrinking the GDIs would be useful as they are taking up more than a gb in size

So what exactly is this GDI shinrkner doing to make them smaller?

    WITCHCRAFT I TELLS YA!!

Removes the blank space, all gdi files is 1gb in size the game files inside the gdi is smaller so by removing the blank space gdi became smller

It's open-source, so you can look for yourself: https://sourceforge.net/p/dcisotools/code/ci/master/tree/gditools.py#l731
I also explain it further down.
    That's basically it.

A GD-Rom game with little actual data still takes about 1GB, so I just remove that part as silently as possible so that GDEMU shouldn't see a real difference. A few games are problematic, but it's working great on the vast majority of GDIs.

Picture a 300 pages book with a TOC at the beginning, but then it has 200 blank pages before the first chapter. GDIShrink tears away those blank pages and removes the header and footer throughout the book.

GDIShrink would be a worthy addition as an available option for @madsheep SD Card Maker...

Give it another month and we can safely say the bootleg that has only been out for around half a year has sold twice as many units as the real gdemu has sold in all it's years of existence. Take that with what you will.

Are there any visual differences between the original and clone?

I have a genuine v5.4 GDEMU and a bootleg v5.5 GDEMU (that arrived today), see the photos below. From my very brief look I can't physically see any differences between the two. In the parcel that arrived there are three plastic pegs/pins for securing the board to the Dreamcast. They don't look like they will do the job too well and I don't know if these are the same type of pegs sent with new genuine GDEMU's. From memory my board came with a plastic sleeve and screw(s) to secure to the Dreamcast where these bootlegs look like the board simply sits on top. My GDEMU is currently sitting on a 3D printed mount.

I have not plugged in or tested the board out yet. I'll probably do that next week and see if there are any performance differences between the two. I will test a few SD cards and see if there are any formatting, compatibility, size issues, etc. I don't know what differences exist between v5.4 and v5.5 boards whether hardware or firmware related and if that will have any affect on things.

The clone has a more black glossy finish, uses a slightly different version of crystal oscillator, capacitor (different voltage rating) and FPGA chip, etc. The pegs are not the same size of the original one sent with the official board and they are shipped with 2 300ohm resistors (1 spare) for the 12v/gnd psu.

Also, heard they dont sit flush with the 3D printed trays, as the PCB is also slightly thicker, yet that needs more confirmation.
