    Edit:

Correction - The Xeno mod does have 2 leds. It boots up red and after 3-4 seconds the red led turns off and the orange one comes on. Is this correct?

Still get nothing when I hold start on boot, but it is loading original imports.

Edit again: I was holding start while turning the unit on before the GC logo. I do get a XenoGC Shell V1.05 screen when I hold start after the GC logo while an actual game is loading. I'm an idiot.

Speed, yes, it needs to be after the GC accepts a disc and starts it up as it's checking the buttons held down in the extended apploader that it's patched. I suggest you clean the laser lens, use better media (RitekG05 8cm DVD-R) and maybe tweak the laser resistence down a bit if it's a Indigo/Black Gamecube. The fact you get an orange LED means that the drive is running the patched code and the Xeno is installed correctly at least :)

The Black/Indigo GC's came from the factory with the laser pot set to 500-550ohms but the lasers wouldn't read discs very well (even just a few months after). However, later when they started manufacturing platinum GC's, they were setting the pot to 170-200ohms from the factory. If all else fails, I suggest looking up how to tweak the pot in a Gamecube DVD drive and putting it down to 170-200ohms.

I have a platinum DOL-101, should I have to adjust the pot?

Alright, I'm going to have it soldered in tomorrow. I'm a little sad I can't get a component cable for my model of GC, but if I find a model with the port, I'll just mod this drive, and swap it in another cube. If I can't pull off the installation, the person letting me use their soldering iron will. So yay.

If you find a better cube all you need is to yank the optical drive and swap.

isn't it amazing how there's 0 PAL games that support progressive scan :( yet PAL consoles come with D-input

as if Nintendo knew we'd play imports on them and decided to keep them in :D

Actually, I read that there were a couple of PAL GameCube games where the progressive scan option had accidentally been left in. Apparently 'Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters' was one of them:-

I'm having a problem with the pot and I'm not sure if it's the pot or my multimeter.

The multimeter is a digital/autoranging Craftsman. Keep getting flashing 0000s.

I'm going to try and pick up a manual multimeter today and see if that will read it.

I got mine installed. My dad taught me how to solder since I had no idea how. He did the first joint to get it set, I did the rest. People make it sound like it's so easy to mess up, only a retard would burn the board. I also got an expensive soldering iron too to use, and a DOL-001 GC. I'm going to take the drive out of my DOL-101 and put it in the DOL-001 so I can use component.

I do have one issue. For some reason, when I hold start to get the version to display, it just goes to a screen that my TV wont display. Anyone know the reason why? It loads backups just fine.

If you're using the component cable, it's possible it's using a non-standard display setting, maybe try switching back to composite out.

No, I'm using the AV cables on an NTSC TV, my GC is NTSC as well. Is it possible that the Xeno displays the menu in PAL?

I can't tell what version it is, but is using the orange LED, so that should make it the latest.

Oh yes, this was a bug. it will only ever display the shell in PAL (on the later chips), I'd forgotten about it!

Ok, so does this make me lose anything? I mean, what is there in the menu that's relevant. Anyway I can tinker with my TV to get it to show?
