Now that you say it, i'm not sure 100%, well, i must admit now it seems a lot to some other pics from an intented model 3 emu...but... if as they say they were given by an ex-sega of japan employer to someone who posts at IGN..

Well think that this game never was released, or show to press to be printed on any review eetc...maybe it never reached a high % of completion status...

There's too much "anti-aliasing" true... but maybe Saturn a la shenmue was cabable of that a little...

    mmmmmmm time will tell.

Does MAME emulate VF3 ? It was emulating at least Scud Race.

Model 3 could draw in quads, and since those pictures also share that board's native 496x384 resolution - a format the Saturn can't even support - I'm in no doubt these aren't the first genuine screenshots from VF3 in its 32-bit console guise we have been waiting for...

i don't understand what's the point of releasing fake pics, damn those people
some people are hopeless, i tried vf3 in mame and because the emulation isn't perfect(some shading are not done properly) it's quite visible the quad nature of the models

well everyone knows Saturn VF3 had better graphics than PS3/360 VF5. A friend said so, you know.

As mentioned in other posts, there is no way the Saturn game would look 'better' than those pics, unless you mean 'neater' or 'cleaner'.

that's what i meant, it would have less polygonal chargue etc but damn those pics got a lot of texture distortion because seems they were from a pre-liminar emulator.

Yes, cleaner is what i wanted to say.

Yesterday I was playing Fighting Vipers and Fighters Mega mix on the Saturn. now it's said that VF3 was to use some or all of the Fighters Megamix Engine. What I noticed though is that Fighters Mega mix is bloody awful compared to Fighting Vipers. In Fighting Vipers everything moves at a solid 30fps, the arenas don't break up all the time like they do in Fighters Megamix and the actual character models look far better in Vipers thanks to the shading used.

Now I know Megamix uses more lighting than vipers did but it's a mess. Awful slowdown, low sound samples and a lower resolution as well. It's no wonder AM2 scrapped the first version of VF3 if it was based around Megamix. By the way, did AM2 also make Vipers? Their logo doesn't appear at the beginning unlike every other games they've produced.

Vipers Trash? That's just your opinion mate. Fights Megamix is trash. Looks bloody awful, slows down and has countless graphical problems. Vipers on the other hand is fast, smooth, looks good and has far nicer audio samples and as a bonus there's PEPSI MAAAAAN!

If you can play 3D fighters (and I mean really play them) then just dig out both of those games and then tell me if you still thing Megamix is a great as you remember it. I thought it was great in my memories too until I put it back on a few days ago.

I've described the exact performance figures of both Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 revisions before, and without boring you again let's just say that game's desert stage as it appears in Megamix is probably a very good indication of how the first complete version may have looked. As for the final build, fortunately AM2 made better use of the Saturn's multiple processors and reinstated basic polygonal backgrounds. However, in either of its 32-bit incarnations VF3 would still have been running in the console's 320x224 mode at 30FPS. This might not seem impressive, but just look at the Shenmue prototype footage to see what could have been. I've no idea whether or not fans would look back on the game as badly as they do Megamix today had it been released, but the possibility for disappointment is always there with any game in hindsight. To be honest, even I'm a little upset with how badly Megamix has dated, although VF3 would have been remembered for at least being more of a technical showcase if anything else - and that's not something you can say for the Dreamcast version! AM2 would definitely have not allowed the gameplay to be ruined too badly, and their determination to get this key title out proves just how much faith they had in satisfying VF3's arcade followers when it came to graphics... even if they ultimately failed!

P.S. AM2 was responsible for Vipers, and if memory serves me correctly then most (if not all) of the staff on this game were later credited in Megamix as well, presumably also working on VF3 and Sonic The Fighters since these were developed for the Saturn around the same time frame.
