How about "because something is not only being beaten by its competitor, but also by its predecessor"?
I dont think the console itself is too over priced, or at least, I would have personally payed what it's supposed to be going for. I was looking forward to the psvita and even considered importing one from japan. The memory cards is what made me change my mind though, making them proprietary was a stupid idea and the price is even stupider. Now I'm gonna wait to buy one until they have a 2nd price drop, and/or the memory card prices are heavily reduced and the thing is hacked.
Sounds a lot like the PS3 during its launch... The 3DS was bombing too after it launched. Don't count out the VITA just yet...
DS failed at launch, PSP failed at launch, PS3 failed at launch, 3DS failed at launch, and now the Vita has failed at launch. I feel like with gaming press, any and all bad press is good news. Wasn't the DS outselling the 3DS for quite a while too?
The PSP and DS didn't fail at launch...the PS3 did have a terrible launch and first year, as did the 3DS until the price cut. The Vita shouldn't be counted out at all, but it needs to have a price cut, too bad nothing can be done about those stupid memory cards.
Has Sony ever been THAT popular in Japan? Nintendo always seemed to be Japan's homeboy, not to mention that Hardware sales are not what counts, It's software sales. and while Nintendo has alot of Hardware sales, I think they have FAR fewer software sales, because people mainly buy it for the Nintendo Franchises, professor layton and a few other puzzle games. US and Europe are the real big places to watch, Them combined = more sales than Japan which is obligatory however I feel that US and Europe have more core gamers that will buy it, and buy lots of games.
Well the PS2 and PS outsold the N64 and the Gamecube in Japan... What the PSVita needs is a Monster Hunter game and it will start shifting units. The PSP had a massive increase in hardware sales with the first monster hunter game came out. Monster Hunter on the PSP has shifted somewhere in the region of 10 million units, far more then all the others added together. The 3DS version has sold just under a million. The PSVita does not really have any games that are must have, the 3DS does have Monster Hunter, Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land and these basically are the only games I see people playing when they show up on the MiiPlaza. The PSP is a lot cheaper and does have a large catalogue of games now, and the 3DS does have games that people want to play. Although saying that all the stores I visited over the new year period had sold out of the non 3G PSVs...
I would buy one if it could run Android and not the dedicated security packed OS, did not use dedicated MC's and was more cheaper. Then again, that is what the Xperia Play does, except with less power and down a second thumb stick. Give the 'new' technology a few months, and the price will drop. I mean, how many portables can one company make! They revised the PSP so many times.
The 3DS its selling because nintendo fucked early adopters in the ass and obliterated the price of that thing. Now you can buy two 3DS for the price of one PSV, not even the iphone could beat that, which is why Android has 54% of the market while the iphone went down to 15% Back to the Vita, the price of the unit its fair considering its a quadcore with a 5inch AMOLED screen. A galaxy note with similar screen but dualcore costs over $600, and the Prime tablet its $500. But I agree on the memcards, sony apparently forgot that they had to move to SD for their digicams because nobody was buying MSduos Seeing the size of the PSV card I bet the first thing we're going to see are adaptors, you could fit 2 microSDs easily on that thing.
