Just checked it out, very cool! I guess being the US proto it would mostly be translation differences, but still, I'm jelly =P Looking forward for when you do the dump and compare. I'm assuming you haven't played the protos yet? Or least it sounds like it from that post. Nice collection, man!
There could be any number of differences since some games were changed during the Famicom/NES switch, though translation would be most likely. Dragon Warrior looks quite different to Dragon Quest, as I recall. I have been told there are text differences in FF. There could be other quirky things like XP differences. I know of a DW proto from an NES employee, for example, that gave 64 XP for slimes so that the developer/tester could just run through the game quickly. Finding that kind of thing on either would be awesome I popped in both DW and FF quickly, but they are both pretty large games so I figured I would wait to dump and compare and then just use emulators to play the games to preserve the physical protos as best as possible. My Ninja Gaiden 2 proto died after using it repeatedly, so I avoid using the physicals where I can. Luckily I had the rom before it died, at least...
Ahh, so it's anybodies guess then! Well I'll be keeping an eye out for sure. Oh, I guess that makes a lot of sense. Sucks you lost a cart in the process.
One of mine would be the latest "Sonic Adventure" build they had for the Sega Saturn. I realize Sonic Jam has the 3D part which is basically a prototype, but it was obviously reworked to be what it is with all the different hubs and stuff. I would love to see the last version of it that was actually "Sonic Adventure". It would be really interesting to see how far they got before shifting it over to the Dreamcast and retooling it to be what it was in Sonic Jam.
- Ura Zelda 64DD - Zelda: Ocarina of Time E3 and Space World prototypes - Early Zelda OoT development disks (from before Nintendo converted it from 64DD to cartridge) - Any other prerelease builds for Zelda: Ocarina of Time I want to be able to play this one day - http://imgur.com/2wKFV1d
I do not have any pictures of the actual prototypes. There are no pictures of Ura Zelda's development, only prerelease Zelda: Ocarina of Time. As far as I know, no one who has found the OoT beta has shared it with the world. The closest we can get to it is the leftover files in the final release.
What about the other discs/carts you mentioned or exist? Do you have pictures or info on what is written on them? I just want to know so I know what is out there to dump.
Prerelease cartridges that once existed: "Wii Magazin" demo cartridge - August of 1997 Spaceworld demos (about 20) - November of 1997 Zelda 64 Spaceworld demo - January of 1998 Private Zelda 64 preview - May of 1998 E3 demos (at least 5) - June of 1998 The CBS Toy Test - July to August of 1998 here you can find the content on these prototypes if you match up the dates
ok sounds good, not sure if I even answered your question yet lol edit: Hiccup meant pictures of physical Zelda N64 prototypes that have not been dumped (I thought he meant data written on them), along with anything that may be written on the sides or on the back of the copies. No pictures of such protos exist
I have the official disc for the debug build for Assassins Creed and the files for a beta for Dead Space with a full debug menu.
