Quite sick of seeing a a bunch of new halfs (or is it new halves?) and or drag queens on TV talking about a bunch of horse shit. I guess they're not that much different from the straight talent, but gimme a fucking break. At least show me the Kano sisters tits.

Pro Tip : Don't watch TV as Yakumo would say Japanese TV is crap anyway, and you have the internet man, if you want boobs then you are probably no more then a few mouse clicks away.

Yep, Japanese TV is total horse shit! As for all the trannies, yep there are far too many on Japanese TV talking out of their arses but then again so do all the straight people on Japanese whether it be a chat show, game show, drama or one of the five million "I'm a rich fuck but let's talk and eat food then say OISHIIIIII" type shows.

    Yakumo, Japanese TV hater.

Even dramas reach the limit when you notice it's the same fairytale story ever damn time. Also pissing annoying how the only people that end up together are so perfect looking and crap while the friends of both the main characters(male/female) are always so 'wacky' and nerdy looking. And if you think that sucks, wait till you see it in real life with a lot of asians, specifically the girls. Just so there's someone to compare themselves to so any men looking will make the obvious choice of which is hottest.

In other words, dramas make reality feel like shit if you actually were hoping to spend you life with someone :(

Japanese TV cycle for a foreigner:

    This is awesome! Japanese TV!!

These shows are great!! It's so funny how they eat stuff and
react to it! The dramas are good.

Wait a minute, all the new shows are the same as the old ones!
Why are all the shows about eating food? Why do all the dramas
    have the same plot?

Wait a minute, all the old shows I liked suck now that I understand Japanese! Stop fucking eating!
Ten years of the same people eating stuff! Stupid dramas! Fucking kiss her already!

This shit sucks. It's all the same. If I have to see someone eat another
expensive food and overreact I'll break something!! Fuck! Why is there nothing different on TV??

Forum post: Hey guys how do I get foreign TV in Japan???

You hit it on the head. That's the exact transition I went through sad enough. Only I found the eating crap annoying from day one. :banghead:

Haha... yeah, the only thing Assmebler's post is missing is some curvy arrows that go back to the top.

The problem in my house is my wife does watch TV. I will say that some of it isn't all that bad. There's a handful of good travel shows that are interesting if you ignore the narration. Every now and again they show something interesting about Japan (even Tokyo) I didn't know before... like all the rations stored around town in case of an Earthquake, and the 40 meter tunnels they let flood waters into.

Kaze wo Yomu on Sunday mornings is show that actually shows some intellect. It's even somewhat hard to follow at times if you're not paying attention to the nihongo.

But yeah, that's like 3 hours a week of tolerable TV. Pretty sad when the news is the best thing on.

EDIT: My wife watches Onee-mans which is basically Japanese Queer Eye but without Carson, or any of the humor, production quality, or spontaneous jokes. Way more make up and bullshit too.

No it's not, it's shite just like everything else. ASSEMblers post if pretty much what Japanese TV is all about and as GaijinPunch said, there's about 3 hours a week (if that) of decent programming. The rest is none stop shit with very low production values and the SAME GOD DAM PLOT or IDEA EVERY F*ING TIME! How on earth can Japanese watch something from the west (quality stuff) then watch their own crap and think it's still entertaining?

If I'm at home on my own the TV is NEVER on unless its a DVD or a game I'm playing or the baby is watching one of his shows like Shimajiro (far more entertaining than the adult stuff that's for sure) or one of his English DVDs like Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine or Postman Pat. The problem is though that as soon as my wife is home on goes the shit :crying:

Just a question, are the "Trannies" according to GP real trannies, or is that another word for those guys that "Want to be prettier or as pretty as a woman" over there, like that Gackt fellow or whoever?

I guess the doujin equivalent would be bishonen, but I've heard that popular male Japanese stars try to look as female as possible, because they like being pretty?

Did you actually go through the first two stages of this cycle?
I had only two stages: Day one: "Hmm... Japanese TV, eh? I wonder if I can find some good anime or something..."
Day two-Day 2373: "This shit sucks! How can they be the best in the world at games, cars, etc, and yet be so brainless off-hours??!?"

Fortunately, my girlfriend here has the same derision towards popular Japanese TV shows as I do. We watch a lot of NHK documentaries together, which are really good.

So, instead of always complaining, how about a new topic? Which are *EXCELLENT* TV shows in Japan? Not just slightly humourous, but actually really good?

First off, NHK has a wide variety of documentaries, both on their main channel, and on satellite. I don't mean these quasi-documentaries where they take some 17-year-old talent and put her in a place like Tahiti so the locals can express how cute [ie: brainless, graceless] this Japanese girl is. I mean the proper ones, like the 10-year document of homeless kids in Mongolia, who live under manholes. Powerful stuff.

On the lighter side, there's a sketch comedy show that is more deadpan, more western-style than others. It's named "Salaryman Neo", and is on Sunday nights around 11:00ish...? I recommend that for a chuckle or two that won't leave you feeling guilty.

Hey, I like Hana Yori Dango and Bayside Shakedown, not all doramas . And as you said all the shows are about the same, the only interesting things (well "interesting") that I saw last year were a show about Pink Lady and another one about a husband who had to remake his house by himself.

I watch the occasional NHK documentary. After watching BBC's Planet Earth on Blu-Ray (I've got two more episodes) I've kind of spoiled myself for documentaries though.

Bayside Shakedown(feels weird calling it that) is pretty good. in fact, the only dramas I ever watch are the cop one. Especially the older ones from the 70-80's. If you like that sorta stuff, you gotta see tantei monogatari/detective story. My favorite drama, and Matsuda Yuusaku is really funny :)

I just have to say Pink Lady is so annoying. One look at them now, which is usually when they come out to tell boring recipes and talk about all the oishii shit in the world, and you can see they're now walking plastic dolls. All the former artists of the 80's get plastic surgery because they think aging isn't something that should come for them. Can't wait to see their faces when they're 90!

That's actually one of my favourite musicals, and I hate most musicals. Tim Curry as the transvestite was amazing. Peter Hinwood's body is also amazing, artistically speaking.
