I can't help but look at early 70's Freddie Mercury and be reminded of Tim Curry's performance. He looks like he woulda fit if they made a sequel. Really :p

It's actually one of my favorite movies too. And I'm not a flight attendant.

Densha Otoko was nice. And anime is quite decent too. Anyway, if I ever got to live in Japan, I'd only get a TV for playing games, I'd rather get a satellite dish and watch Spanish TV from Astra (I think it is avaible somewhat from there lol).

It's been three years since my one and only Japan visit, and I did try to watch some japanese TV (only understanding one word in 10), and was surprised by how bloody awful it was for such a large country. My foreigner newbie theory is everyone works so hard and was so tired they haven't got enough energy for complicated TV.

All seemed like the japanese equivalent of Noel's House Party, with reaction boxes in a corner of the screen.

Slingbox. Japan's satellite selection is pretty turd as well.

Playing Freecell for 6 hours a day and working 6 does not equal working hard.

My only thought on Japanese TV is the only stuff worth watching usually ends up on "best of" dvds or TV special DVDs. I just get DVDs from a rental club for my hit of Japanese comedy.

I really like the recent "How to make @@@@ angry". It is like how to make your boss angry, how to make your family angry etc. Very funny and quite Pythonesque. Not all Japanese comedy is shite, just the stuff good enough to end up on DVD which is about 0.01 percent of it.

Oh and Nanikore? at 11:20 on 061/051(?) on a wednesday night always makes me laugh.

As for the Transvestites (my hairdresser at UR Castle Harajuku is actually a TV - his name is Angel Smile) Japanese women will always love girlish non-threatening men. This fad is only just beginning. The viewing figures for that TV/gay show AneCans is through the roof apparently.

That just the same as all the other pointless shit on TV. Just watching that alone may seem good but mix it with everything else and you'll soon change your mind.

If you had a big enough dish (in Japan), would you be able to receive Australian free-to-air TV as well?
Slingbox would work, just get someone from home to set it up for you, plus there's always BBC iPlayer I guess.

No clue, I have no idea how that shit works. I do know that only 8 people in the country have a backyard, so unless the dish fits comfortably on the side of the house/flat, it's not happening.

I don't know about Australia, but in Spain TV goes by DVB-T and doesn't use satellite dishes. ;-)

LOL, yeah, there is that to consider. ABC Asia Pacific is receivable in Japan apparently ('Home & Away' woo-hoo!).

What, no terrestrial TV on satellite at all? Here in the UK, it's the only real way to receive HD broadcasts (albeit just the one BBC channel).
Cable TV also carries it, although it doesn't have as many regular channels as satellite. The rest are all pay TV Movie channels, but HD is pretty much still in its infancy over here (unfortunately).

I'm talking about regular TV. We have satellite, HD satellite and digital cable TV too. Unfortunately, satellite and cable even if they are DVB they are standard resolution, and there are few channels in HD (Canal +, some sports channels and some more stuff IIRC).

Right now IMHO the best way for watching TV is by cable here. Satellite is more about themed channels like Eurosport or Euronews, and DVB-T works as well as trains in Valencia, you can get PTV (analogic) or Ono (digital) for about 35€ / month. And if you have a CRT the best way is analog TV lol.
