I'd say it has a similar feel to the game, not suprising considering many of the same developers worked on it, either way Yakuza is a very decent game. It constantly looks worse and worse on the Shenmue III front, but however unlikely it's release, I'll always hold out hope. I just hope we get a resolution to the story, be it pre-rendered footage, the game itself or even just some kind of book.
That's exactly what I was hoping for. Something, anything...to wrap up the cliffhanger that was Shenmue II. I'd even settle for an electronic .pdf novel from the development team at this point.
try to track down the project berkley disc with the first run of the Japanese Virtua Fighter 3 I was lucky to score it a few years back it does give alot of stuff away.
Barc0de I'm no idiot and I understand the financial implications, all I'm saying is even in it's poor state obviously some work had been done and yeah it makes sense that it hasn't be released but it certainly wouldn't be impossible to do so now. Consider the fact that number 2 came out on the XBox, what would stop them from porting that to the massively popular PS2 to gauge interest and develop 3 for that? I can't imagine the cost of porting etc atm would be astronomical, I know that you'll think that Sega wouldn't commit a team to program this epic for past gen consoles, but I think it would be the only chance that this saga would have for true mainstream exposure. The only screens I've seen of SIII look exactly the same as I & II therefore obviously same engine yada yada yada (what's scary is that Ryo is STILL wearing those same clothes... sheesh). If they were able to port that to PS2 they could easily pass the graphics hurdle of current gen, possibly expand the franchise and give way to the closure of SIII. It would be lovely if they recreated the whole 16 chapter saga for this current gen, as has been suggested back in 2005 but we know that's incredibly unlikely for Sega finding as it's currently settling in from rockiness to new steadier foundations. The PS2... I'm telling you... all those RPG's... most nerds have PS2s... in fact most people do.... Closure is what we need. It was just getting juicy, a proper 'wtf?' moment at the end and now nothing? It's like if Return of the Jedi had never been released. SuperGrafx, yeah anything, a book, comic, video made using the game engine (like that crap Shenmue I 'movie'). Need to know... Chi Yu Men... Die... Lan Di butt fucked... Find out wtf he meant when he asked Ryo's father if he remembered that guy before he killed him... "Nooo... it can't be... you...?!" WTF!
Never played the Shenmue series but after reading this thread I think I need too! Recommendations please, obviously the first on Dreamcast but Xbox or Dreamcast for the part 2?
well, if you have both DC and xbox and you havent played shenmue you deserve to die:lol: I think bis the est game ever.. i recomend playing shenmue 1 and 2 in the dc, you can import your character from shenmue1 to 2.. in the grafic department, shenmue 2 is better, the xbox version runs in a higher resolution and the water effects are better too, but i prefer the dc version, there´s a lot more people in the streets i think... it´s a very good sensation seeing the dc being push to the limits, i wonder what can be achieved in this system if it wasn´t descontinuated...
Even worse, after about 3 ou 6 months (in game time) he still has the same dirty and probably mouldy bandaid in his face (from LanDi's beating) xDD
I've been playing Yakuza..........ALOT today. Buy that game and if it's sequel comes out here (and I hear it will later this year) buy that. since it's shenmueesque it might send sega the message. Actually I like Yakuza more than Shenmue.
I played it ages ago (well, Ryu ga Gotoku anyway). I bought it as it was pretty highly rated, and heard mention of it being "like Shenmue". The first thing I thoght was "Where?" The only similarities are that you walk around and talk to people, and beat some of them up. I'm not saying it's a bad game. Over-hyped? Very. Still, toting it as another Shenmue is blasphemy. Semi back on topic: My favorite internet dork claim up until recently (I think some would still agree) is that the Dreamcast would be the most economically viable console Shenmue III could appear on.
Actually the reason it never was ported to the ps2 was due to ram constraints. Yu Suzuki I think mentioned this in an interview.
I've worked it out, they're waiting for the Panasonic M2 to come out to release it as a launch game. explains everything.
This just gave me an idea: Sega should release a follow up to What's Shenmue called "Where the Hell is Shenmue III?" The entire game will be Yu Suzuki walking up to the screen and a QTE will come up that tells you to point in all directions. Once you press something, Suzuki will tell you you're a sucker and walk away laughing. Then he'll come back and hand you a copy of Sonic Heroes and say "meh.."
Where is Shenmue III? The same place Sega as we knew it is. The Gaming After Life. And honestly, you really don't want a Shenmue update from the Sega that exists today. Ryo: "Hey Lan-Di! You killed my father! And thats not cool!" LanDi: "The darkness in my heart tells me I have to fight you... but I don't want to, but I will anyways." Ryo: "Whatever homie. Yee-haw!" Sega is retarded these days. This is why I don't even want to think about the new NiGHTS anymore... everything I've read about it sounds horrible (no more collecting blue orbs, now you chase flying things that have keys!! Though you do collect blue orbs, they're used as ammo during the kids' platforming stages. DOESN'T THAT SOUND GREAT!?!?!? OH: :noooo: ). Meh, Sega should've just disbanded and ceased to exist when the DC died IMO.
Ah man, I just had a mental image: Shenmue on MTV, and had that same dialogue:lol::nod: Anyway, is no mistery why SEGA is like it is today. The reason is simple: after years of red numbers they decided to do what successful companies like EA do, and thats capitalizing on this dumb mainstream generation with "attitude" games. I think SEGA could do a good comeback to the hardware market with a portable that sits between the DS and the PSP, but the sammy execs seem to think otherwise about consoles.
Perhaps that's true for most of SEGA, but Yu Suzuki still works for SEGA, as well as several other former members of AM2, don't they? All I'm saying is that at least part of the former greatness of SEGA remains.
