That I remember I bought at release the Saturn and the Dreamcast. To this time maybe the OUYA count because of the kickstarter.
On international launch day? None, as consoles only get launched here about a year later than in the UK/US , most of the newer ones, Xbox 360, PS2/PS3, Wii, PSP, DS Lite, I imported long before they were launched here, most were NTSC-J consoles that I sold on a few months after the console officially gets launched here,3DS I bought a week after its launched as it was actually the same date as the UK launch so was well worth it. Allmost got the WiiU but was cash strapped.
Funny, i know 3 other Wii owners who wouldn't have switched on thier console if it wasn't for softmods!
My one was 60GB PS3 along with Motorstorm and Resistance Fall of man. Just got enough money to buy one back then as a teen.
I'm in the US so there's a few systems I bought from japan before launch so I'll consider that launch day Genesis-bought within a few weeks of launch Dreamcast-launch day US GBA-bought japanese unit before US launch GBA SP-bought japanese unit before us launch Vita-bought it launch week Japan When it comes to handhelds, if it looks cool I need it asap!
Wii U only console I got on launch day. Usually most systems wait till around my bday to get or eventually get them after 6 months.
When I first read the topic title, I immediately thought Dreamcast! And to my surprise (while flashing back) this was not the only system, I also bought the following systems on launch day: GameBoy Advance, GameBoy Advance Micro, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
I bought a 3DS within the same month it launched, and a Wii 4 months after it launched. Rest of my consoles I bought are 2 years+ from their launch dates.
Wii: A buddy of mine had been notified by Gamestop that they couldn't honor his pre-order, so he cancelled it and we waited outside of Target overnight. I think I had more fun hanging out with the line of people at Target than I did with the system (I hadn't pre-ordered it). 3DS: Went to a midnight launch for it. Wii U: Went and picked it up the day it came out. Other than that I got the Dreamcast, Saturn, and Nintendo DS during their first holiday seasons.
Well, i could say mine was only the STAR WARS Xbox 360 console....the golden controller is just too irresistible
Just N64, that was the only one where I had the interest and the money. These days even the best consoles have nothing much worth buying at launch.
I stood in line for about 17 hours for the Wii. It was actually pretty fun hanging out with all the other people in line. For the WiiU I was able to preorder it to avoid standing around or possibly missing out on one. I regret getting both so soon since I hardly play them and there aren't really a whole lot of good games for either system.
Sega Saturn bought on the Japanese launch date for a whopping price and also bought 3 Wii consoles on day of release but the most special waiting in line holding my ticket to buy a Dreamcast one day one of the Japanese release. No other release has been that special for me.
I have to quote the post's I can relate to, as I have gotten these at launch. . . . N64 PS2 GBA GCUBE PSP Wii DS (within a day or two) Sadly, mine is still gathering dust even with those. Even though softmodding the Wii is the way to go. Got the Gcube with Rogue Squadron 2, Luigis Mansion, and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3. Gotta admit, it was an awesome system, and being young at the time I loved it even though thinking back on it, the launch titles weren't the best, but I remember getting Pikmin not too long after, and that game was spectacular to me (& challenging). I truly loved getting the PSP as well. I remember using it for 20 mins before I put it on the charger and went to school. I played Wipeout & checked out the interface with much excitement. When I got home, I remember playing the included Demo Disc, Watching the included Spiderman 2 movie, & played Ridge Racer. I was blown away. Unfortunately, the screen on my PSP cracked not too long after getting it (near GTA:VCS launch) & that was the end for me.
I got my PS2, 360, DSi, 3DS, and Wii U at launch. I think I might stop getting launch consoles since there really isn't a reason to get one at launch. If you look at Nintendo, their "worth buying games" don't come out 'till god knows when. I don't remember about Microsoft or Sony, but if the Vita is a testament, then that's definitely telling you don't buy launch systems unless you want a giant paperweight for few months or year. There needs to be more Dreamcast launches.
My mom bought the PS2 for me on launch day, I saved a little more than 3/4th's of the price, and she topped it of as an early christmas present. When the PSP launched a few years later, I thought "let's see if they still have some" when I was in the city. They did, so I bought one.
