Mine wasnt a home console as that was way beyond my budget, my first ever console was a mono gameboy when the import shop down the road had them in.

Took 10 weeks of saving part of my YTS money to buy it.

The first one I bought was a PlayStation (at launch, for around $800 Australian Dollars). Dad went nuts at me for spending my "hard earned" on it.

I believe it was the Atari Lynx got California Games with it. Although I had purchased a Genesis before that, but my sister pitched in. So it wasn't completely my purchase.

First one I ever bought with my OWN money would be the Sega Saturn Japanese import for a whopping 500 pounds with 3 games back in 1995. Before for that however I had a PAL Master System which then got sold to buy a PAL Mega Drive. I had no idea about NTSC stuff until I bought a Super Famicom (again with money from my parents).

The Playstation was my first system I bought as well. I remember at it's launch spending so much money that day. I ended up getting an extra controller, memory card, Battle Arena Toshinden, Twisted Metal, WarHawk, and Ridge Racer. I wasn't seen in public for while after that day.

I think it was a Sega Saturn. Used for like $39.

My first new console I paid for was an Xbox 360 to tell the truth. Either that or I can't remember. I know I paid for half of my N64 when I got it.

A Mega Drive (with money I had saved and Christmas money - I combined it with my brother) with Sonic 2 packed in. Then, shortly after, a SNES (I got it from a catalogue with Super Mario World, Starwing and F-Zero and paid it off at 3GBP a week for x number of months). It took me forever to pay for it and I delivered God knows how many thousands of those stinking newspapers to pay for it, but I paid for it in full. Something like 170GBP in total I think. It took over a year. The amazing thing at the time was that Super Mario World was out of stock, so they sent me Mario Kart instead! Those 3 games kept me going for a good 6 months before I could afford more games. I paid for things with paper round money back then and spent a long time researching my next purchase to make sure it offered long term playability.

After a few years I had quite an impressive, if small, SNES collection. The last game I bought was Yoshi's Island before selling my collection when the Playstation came out. Originally I was waiting for the N64, but that summer I played Tekken and Ridge Racer all the time during my holiday to the beach and that sold the PSX to me. I got that from a catalogue too and paid it off. It cost me 350GBP, and I got it just after launch. Best console I ever owned too.

So thats where your fanaticism started then. ;)

I think the first one I bought wholly on my own was a Dreamcast. I think everything upto that point were gifts.

Ooh, only 43 more threads to spam now!

PAL SMS for me. (by saving up Xmas and Bday cash, washing the family car, stuff like that)

Had an Acron Electron bought for me as my first 'gaming' item I guess..even though it was meant to be used educationally lol!

The first console I bought with my own money was a PS2 the summer after it was released. I bought Midnight Club Racing and a memory card with it.

Since then, the only things I haven't bought on my own were my Gamecube which was a Christmas gift and my first PSP that my parents bought me as sort of a bonus for helping my dad out with work.

Mine was a 2nd hand Dreamcast with 11 games (sadly they only had the GD and manual) I had seen sitting in a shop that same day. Took a trip home and back again to the shop to get it.

My first console I bought for my own money was a Game Boy, can't remember exactly how old I was but somewhere ~10yrs maybe. Had saved for month to buy it. And when I finally bought it I didn't have any money to buy any game for it. xD
Had to wait for my birthday until I had a game for it, got me Donkey Kong Land. Luckily I had friends to borrow games of until I had any games myself.
Still have the box and manual and papers for it, thought the GameBoy it self I gave to my younger brother when I bought me a GameBoy Advance (something I regret from time to time ;P).
