The first console I bought with my own money was the GameBoy Advance, the first day it came out. The better part of my summer was spent mowing lawns so I could save up to buy it. I probably had it for less than a year, though.

My PsOne came after that, and it just grew from there.

Hmm, I think it was a 2nd hand gameboy pocket with pokemon red back 7 years ago, witch also was my first console ever (except some shitty 20 in 1 brickgame thingy).

    Good old times. :)

I remember playing a ps1 when they were new in hospital after i broke my leg and i knew i wanted one even though i wasn't a gamer at the time, i beleive thats my first console purchase with my own money.

My ps1 was one of the best things i ever had and it got me into console gaming.

My first console - and the first one that was actually mine rather than my brothers' - was a Sega Game Gear. Only ever bought a few games for it (Sonic came with it, and I have Sonic 2 and Castle of Illusion). Actually wanted an Atari Lynx, but my brothers (rightly?) persuaded them.

My first computer (discounting my brothers' ZX Spectrum and Amiga 500) was my trusty Amstrad Mega PC 386SX. Complete piece of crap in the upgrading front, and of course didn't have a CD drive but the plethora of games rented from the video shop in town kept me happy.

My first *actual* purchase (rather than something that was bought for me) was an ex-demo unit PS1 for £10, in 2000-01. Won it in a staff raffle at the Virgin Megastore I was working in.

My first console that i bought with my own money was a Sega Game Gear in the Summer of 91. But unfortunable they didnt had any GG's bundles with a game and sadly i only had the money for the console only...so i went the same day to my grandparents and make those sad puppy eyes, so they gave me some money for a game.(Still have that GG boxed with manuals and the bill):love2:

Checking the dates was UK release Aug 87, so perhaps was the first Christmas after this

As for what was the first one I bought with my own cash

I genuinely don`t remember................but I can remember buying a Playstation on launch date in then UK £299....OUCH.....had to pay £100 or something and the rest of interest free finance

    Atari Lynx.

My parents were strictly of the "one console at a time" persuasion and wouldn't buy me the Atari Lynx back in 1989. So what I did was secretly save a few dollars over the course of a few months from my job/birthday money, etc and ended up buying the system without their knowledge.

I only bought a few games before I grew bored of the thing. Wound up selling it to a friend at school a year later.

As said above Santa usually helped me out with consoles and games. I got a playstation 1 at launch also and went the same route as VA, my mum paid £100 down and the rest I paid weekly (Until about 4 weeks ago I think :icon_bigg ).

The first one I bought entirely with my own money was my wii actually. Got that about a year ago when I bought my own house.

It was the Dreamcast in 2000. 200 UK pounds and came with Rayman 2 and Tomb Raider 4 which I thought was a bargain (even although I knew that Tomb Raider games were as fun as watching grass grow).

I was a PC boy and it was my first console, so I forgot that I also needed a memory card. Doh.

first console I got with my own cash was the Xbox with Halo. I pre orderd it and saved for months. I got it on launch day for the full £349 (with game). When the price went down thay sent me 2 games and an extra pad free.

I remeber collecting the machine first thing in the morning before collage, then showing it off to my friends for the rest of the day. Good times :)

    N64+mario 64

It still took some persuading in order for my parents to allow me to spend my money. I had mario 64 for a YEAR before I bought my next game, Diddy Kong Racing.

for my GC I asked my parents for dough, but they said that they didn't have any to give away for gaming. So, I was lucky to find an attorney overseas who wanted some spying for a scam case and I didn't feel ashamed that I charged him 75USD for an hours work (Claiming to work 2 hours a day for 5 days in a row) , when my real work was just like 10 minutes and a few phone calls ;p

First games related item I bought with my own money was an Atari 1040 ST, with colour monitor and several games titles bundled with it. It took me a long time to save up for it, I was only a kid, the computer had been released about 1 year prior and I'd had a 520STFM and upgraded. Still upstairs, still works and yes, I still use it although the monitor died a while back... which reminds me I should replace it.

Your own money? That's kind of vague... I suppose for my that could be my SNES. As technically I sold the NES and its games so I could buy a SNES. But if that does not count, it might have been my Ice Metalic Blue Gameboy Pocket. If it wasn't that then it would have been my Nintendo 64 as I remember spending something like 150$ on it and having no games that I owned for several months, so I was just renting games then.

Good old times indeed. I can remember back when Pokemon wasn't a whored out franchise, and regular people actually played it and battled eachother. I remember playing Zelda 4 on GB, way back before I even had that N64. Really I think probably around the PS2 things got less meaningful.

I think the only console I have ever spent my own cash on would be my PS2 ... anything previous or later and it's been bought for me [including this upcoming friday's ps3 :icon_bigg]

EDIT: I lie ... I completely forgot that I spent a small fortune importing a US Dreamcast complete with an array of games and accessories from EBGames many, many moons ago!

Back in 1998, a GameBoy Pocket - which I returned a few hours after I bought it, paid $20 more, and bought a Color for $70 - a huge fortune at a tender young age.

I played that thing to death - the screen broke out of my frustration while playing Super Mario, so I sent it back to Nintendo and I got a new unit, with cleaned cartridges.

Back some time ago I took it with me on a trip to Japan, and sadly the speaker ruptured due to the pressure change (?!) but I still played it with headphones.

I really regret selling it - it's something I'll always remember.

If memory serves me correctly, it was a Sega Genesis.
