Visuals wise, the animations are mostly DOA2 era besides the environmental additions and obvious higher res & textures.

I've played DOA1/2 and VF4/5 competitively so I do know how the game systems work. The core PRS mechanics of DOA have not changed since DOA2. What's changed are frames/attributes of movement & moves and environmental effects. Quite frankly, Team Ninja has no idea how to make a more indepth fighter which is why DOA continues to stagnate. I've spoken to Matsui and Itagaki a number of times during the DOA2-3 era and they just didn't get how Tekken and VF played at a high level so how would they even design something to beat them?

To be fair, ALL of the fighting game developers these days are guilty of dumbing down their games and adding more variables to simulate actual depth when it's just more memorization (eg adding a billion characters to MVC and Tekken then having users beta test their game then patch it later ad infinitum).

Yeah but Itagaki has nothing to do with DOA 5 and are we really judging a game based on a pre Alpha?

No, we are judging it based on a video of a pre alpha.

You have no idea how backwards the series went with DOA4.

    Agreed.

Absolutely. I've seen nothing in that video that suggests Team Ninja's knowledge of fighting games and competition has improved. They simply added some flash to a turd but it's still a turd. Now is the best time to criticize the footage so Team Ninja would be able to make significant changes to the gameplay.

Not everyone plays videogames competitively. Some people just play them because, you know... they enjoy them.

Come on have you ever wanted to punch a pro gamer in the face? Remember Fatality?

Glad he dropped off the face of the Earth but I SO wanted to beat his ass for real!

There's nothing enjoyable about a game where you constantly have to out-guess the other opponent. There's no skill in that and it's down-right frustrating.

How so? Because learn to get better at a game that means that somehow you can't enjoy it either?

You realize that you're arguing on the internet about how tough you are, right?

I've enjoyed all of the DOAs except for Dimensions, because I didn't like the look and felt it was too simple/ easy.

And just because you like or do not like something doesn't mean that others can't like or dislike it. That's why they used to make a wide variety of games.

And as I said earlier, people have always been critical of DOA; but I've enjoyed it even when I beat the whole thing with Kasumi just by doing a backflip kicks.

In any case, I still find DOA4 to be pretty fun. I'm not very good at it, and I suck at fighters in general, but I still manage to beat everyone I play against. Granted, those people usually aren't familiar with the game, so that's probably why. Anyway, the point is that skill does not equal enjoyment.

Games, like any other medium, are a matter of taste. Some people like games that require a lot of skill, and others don't. Neither one of them are "right." What isn't right, though, is to say that their opinion is invalid because it counters yours.

And for the record, I'm not a big fan of Dimensions either, for the same reasons HCK mentioned. Other than that, I love every version of DOA (with the exception of Hardcore which was a crappy port, and the Xtreme games which don't count).

Itagaki was never the game system designer.
