Personally I wouldn't think that security is the reason for not sharing, but instead greed.

Sorry but I find it hilarious when anyone believes that anything can be done anonymously on the internet.

Proof that some of you aren't thinking things through:

Whether using an internet cafe or hunting down random wifi, whose computer will be doing the uploading? There's the first trace....

    /facepalm

Sounds like you arent very computer literate and have been watching too many movies.

So someone uploads something from a laptop that has a clean installed OS (or just booted from a live linux cd). Via some magic you even know what model laptop it was.... and what now?

There are millions of the same model laptop, you dont know who was outside using the wifi. Good luck figuring out who it was out of anyone in the world with the same model laptop.

Now factor in you can get a junk laptop easily and could set it on fire afterwards...

    You crazy

On top of ALL that - you likely wouldnt get the police involved to even try and trace it - Capcom would send a cease and desist to all the websites hosting it - thats about it. They would have no way to trace the person - they dont know who is a suspect, they couldnt get the police to look into it, they cant file a lawsuit as they dont know who it was..

Haha, yes that'd be a brilliant idea. Unless they could somehow got fingerprint info, were able to trace that to where it came from, and saw security footage of you going in buying that specific laptap. This is actually pretty fun to figure out :p Would the laptop leave any fingerprint at all at the upload source that could be used to trace it back like that?

Where did this come from? Anyone wanna clear up? They are releasing the original along with their mod, right?

Besides that, I don't think they're being greedy. it's in our best interests they're holding out, as they said before. They're possibly procuring other prototypes or something to that effect. it sounded like there was good reason. Honestly the only thing I'm upset about at this point is all the goddamn "let's be mysterious" stuff. They really should just shut up and say nothing till it's released. It gets old and so over done.

yes but they only ever contact your ISP if you do something "bad".

They computer cant be detected. Ive done this before.

And another thing, you think you would get in trouble? Really? While theres warez sites and places that CONSTANTLY are uploading full retail games currently in store? And there losing money? And half of those people dont even get caught.

Greed is starting to become a major gaming trend now. Always on Drm, goody 2 shoes who keep things to themselves, aggressive game clients like Origin, On disk DLC, you name it. Greed will be the end of gaming.

And heres something to prove the point about the "Getting Caught" nonsense:
THEN HOW do you even think your gonna attempt to release it when its done? Really? whats so different then, then now? You say you can get in trouble. you CAN GET IN TROUBLE EITHER WAY.
Afraid to upload because of the capcom hammer, is no excuse, when it will still be there when you finish. Whats so different in time?

So basically, they want records of anyone who ever bought that model of laptop EVER from ANYWHERE to figure out who it was?

Now you see why this is just silly.

You could buy the laptop 5 years in advance, would they go back that far? etc

They are just saying that to keep an excuse not to release it.

Like i said, there afraid of the laws. Laws? They still apply when you will finish it. So you not gonna upload it then either?

Regardless of the laptop's model, each laptop has it's own special fingerprint though, doesn't it? I was just thinking if anywhere that has junk laptops keep records of that somehow. If we're in an age where they do that for each single item that comes in, in the case of any police investigations and all that, anyway. I admittedly know less about this.

ccrogers15 : i think you convinced them. I feel a release coming any minute now.

Laptops have a serial number and guid - but not accessible by the browser (and therefore the site you uploaded it to).

Only records would be - router side: computer name (you can make that up), mac address (you can spoof that). Website: could use ad tracking methods to "fingerprint" your PC - this is based on screen res, what browser you are using, which OS, what fonts are installed and what extensions you have installed to make a unique print of your browser. However, you would need to find the now incinerated PC to confirm it matched (but the OS wouldnt boot so you couldnt). Also, you can render all that void by using a live linux CD - all the screen res, os, extensions would be default and match millions of computers.

If someone just took their own every day laptop (i.e. with their OS, browser, files etc) - then theres a chance you could be traced. But then you were an idiot anyways.

Seriously though, it dont matter about if your PC can be tracked. WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN when say, you decide to upload the "Completed" version? It still applies. The law your scared of? It will still be there. Using the law as an excuse is stupid.

You say you cant release it now because you dont want to be traced by capcom for leaking?
But you still will release it later anyways? Really? Its still the same.

The law and all that was given as just one reason why no one's doing an outright release for us right now. No one's saying it's THE reason no one wants to release it. I'd stop using it as your main argument if I were you.

And as I said before, there are apparently other reason's they're not doing it immediately right now. And as for anyone else that owns it, well, you know how it is. People just like having things to themselves.

If I owned this content I wouldn't release it simply because threads like this exist. And because screw you. I want to play it and I'd rather you not.

That's how the average collector works, as far as I'm concerned.

Well i highly doubt it will release. You guys will be too chicken to upload it somewhere, cancel it and state "Due to copyrights we cant uploads to sever!"

    Whatever.

^ Dude, just be quiet. Seriously. Quit whining like an entitled little girl.
Also, Capcom doesn't give a damn about 1.5
Nothing will happen when the team finishes and releases. Just like the GBC RE1 release. The most you'll hear is a snide comment from kamiya on twitter. Or possibly a svenson "Capcom not involved" comment.

What's the point of this thread? Why are we feeding this "getting caught" paranoia when there hasn't been a single documented precedent of someone getting "traced" or "caught" by the FBI or a video game company (seriously, what?) for releasing a prototype of a game? Don't you all realize this thread isn't helping the 1.5 team on anything? You're just creating scenarios for everyone to needlessly freak out about as this situation carries on.

Ok fine then. Answer this question and ill be on my way:
When is the estimated release for the game?

I asked this clearly on page 1, but nobody responded, instead they caused all this...

I did kinda hit on that point. But, I was just talking about the technicalities, rather than thinking it would ever happen.

(also, I dont care about RE 1.5 or anything else RE related)

    TBA 2013.
GMAN already said why releasing the PSM build wouldn't benefit anyone yet.
