Your GameCube logic is kinda floored seeing as you can run GC software on a Wii and use the same controller???
Wow. So much hate for the Wii. It wasn't that bad. I have yet to find a game as good as Mario Galaxy I. I play Mario Kart multiplayer at least once a week. Yeah, it has some bad games, but the good games were really, really good. I still play my gamecube more than any other system, but the wii is my second most played.
What gets me is how some people actually say it's the worst Nintendo system (apparently the Virtual Boy doesn't count). Plus, some of the arguments against it are frankly bullshit, especially the whole "well NoA blocked a lot of good games for it". That's not a problem with the console; that's an issue with NoA itself (if someone really wants to play that card, then they should be condemning something like, say, the Saturn or PS1 for similar reasons of American executive meddling). Then again, some arguments FOR the console are also silly as hell, particularly citing it as a cheap yet effective homebrew/emulation station. Whilst overall true (and thus giving me a great first time with Terranigma), that's not what the Wii was designed nor marketed as (Virtual Console notwithstanding). Is it Nintendo's best console? Certainly not to most people (it's a tie between SNES and Gamecube for me), but it did receive some surprisingly solid games. It received a fair chunk of shitty games too, but it's absolutely fucking ridiculous to call out the Wii specifically for having shovelware.
This thread is so inaccurate! SEGA MegaDrive is clearly the best console ever made.... That is fact. However i do like the Nintendo Wiii a lot.
I suppose it is. Guess I was getting at the fact later editions of the Wii didn't have Gamecube compatibility and that is hard to add back in.
sucks that they removed that as some wii games actually had support for using the GC controller like Goldeneye which is a nice control option
I got my Wii and is still hook up to the tv until I get the WiiU. The term the best console is in the eye of the beholder for me there is no best, there are crap consoles out there that never make anything but overall I like all consoles even the Jaguar and the 3DO. The Wii is a great console with a lot of crap game but also many good games. The easy to mod is out I mod the console just to use the usb loader to have what I play in hand, also to keep the discs safe. For emulation is good but there are a lot of better electronics for emulation out there so that is no point in that.
The family wii is doable, you can modify the drive to allow gamecube discs and install the software to run gamecube games. You just need to solder the controller ports in. The Wii Mini is harder as you don't have any way to run homebrew on it to install the software.
It does have Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, and I think those games are better than Sunshine overall. SMG2 in particular is really impressive I think, both in terms of gameplay and graphics. There's also Metroid Prime 3 and Trilogy, which I think play really well with the Wii remote (I wish more Wii games used the remote in that way). There's also, of course, SSBB. Regardless of your view of the system overall, it's hard to debate that those aren't great games (unless you've never played them).* There's also the fact that it can play Gamecube games, which gives it access to a wide library of really good games (I think). That said, it's not my favorite console of all time, nor even my favorite Nintendo console. My favorite Nintendo console would probably have to be the N64. My favorite console overall would probably be a tie between the Dreamcast and Genesis/MD. *Note: I also really like Ghost Squad, Gunblade NY & L.A. Machineguns, MiniCopter, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves, though they're not quite on the same level as those other games.
I loved super Mario galaxy. prob the only game I actually completed. and yes to this day I have not completed any Mario game to date still love SSSB and Mele and Kart is great too. Infact any MArio game on the Nintendo is a winner except Mario Bros 2, I found that a little creeepy
I think this thread should be locked or the title changed to What is the best console ever? Plus the OP hasn't responded past his first post. my favorite consoles: Playstation 1, PSP, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance, Genesis...can't pick just one.
I can't say that any one console is the best or the worst. I was (and probably still am) very compulsive about the SNES. I really liked SMW a lot and I wanted to have every game that exists (I pretty much do now). But how fun? I can find more games on Genesis that I have fun playing at times and I can find more games for PS2 that I have fun playing. So I can't really say SNES is the best but I can't say the other two are better. Also I was the same way about Dreamcast and I really never turn mine on. Have all the games and yeah there were a lot of fun ones plus the NES emulator is really decent and even has accurate zapper support (as long as you use the right light gun for the dreamcast which.. I forgot which one works well, actually i forgot what gun(s) I even own for that they're on my shelf somewhere). Xbox 1... no... no way is it the best console. Xbox 1 games are hit or miss for fun factor and few are that good by today's standards. It didn't hold to the test of time. Playstation 2 and Gamecube have better games than Xbox 1. Homebrew support... Dreamcast, Xbox 1, Xbox 360, Wii all have pretty decent homebrew support (or had anyway, in the case of the older systems since not much gets developed for them any more). Wii would have to top the chart for that right now because it has the latest and the most support for homebrew as far as I can tell. Xbox 360 could too if it did..but it doesn't, it lacks. But xbox 360 jtag / rgh is really good since it is full HD. Wii maxes out (for output, that is) at 480p which is pretty low res. What is the best console ever made? I would have to say that depends on what hardware and capabilities it has, so you'd pretty much be looking at a modern console and what games they support although none have homebrew yet (well except for maybe the Wii U but I know nothing about it). Still, I switched to Wii a while back because I got tired of Xbox 360. It has fun games, good homebrew... I dunno, it's a good system even though it doesn't have HD. But it is a good system because of the ease of installing homebrew as well as the actual content that it had. I wouldn't say that the Wii is worse than the SNES, that would not make sense at all. It has a better cpu, more ram, more storage space, usb ports...better video output... snes doesn't have any of that. (and yeah I know about the sd2snes I own one but that doesn't really count (nobody really does anything with it any more anyway *cough*dead project*cough*) plus it came out wayyyyyy late). By far, I think xbox 1 had the best homebrew support of any console ever made due to the fact that everything was new in it and it was made during a time when set top boxes and such (Rokus and the like) virtually did not exist. These days a lot of stuff like that exists and there's probably a lot less focus on developing homebrew software for that old of a box, plus these days some are failing since they used electrolytic capacitors and these systems have seen quite a bit of use. Not that solid caps last forever but they last better. I may have to go into my system one day and swap out all the caps. Amazingly though, I do own a coleco set that has those things in it and it still works. But... last year I replaced all the caps with better quality ones from digikey just in case anyway. All the electrolytic ones, the solid state capacitors I left alone.
I dunno the thread is fine although I do see slight hints of trolling. It would be funny if a mod smashed into here and posted a final response "best console ever: Super NES. *Thread locked."
Imagine if emulation on PC, etc didn't exist and the only way to play retro games is on either original consoles or Virtual Console. I wonder what people would think of Wii then I still think it's an amazing system considering it's specs. I also agree with the person who posted that Mario Galaxy games are better than Sunshine
I tried to fall in love with the Wii for 1.5 years now, and finally stopped trying. Rather bad visuals for many games (games that look like they should be in HD but aren't), overall stupid controls (yeah, in games like Wario Ware it really works well - but in others, like Paper Mario, it's just dumb) and limited library of unique software (Nintendo-titles, Xenoblade, Last Story, Sin&Punishment,.... and....??) force me like many others to call it Nintendo's worst home console. If we rank consoles for easy piracy, I think PlayStation 1, Xbox and Dreamcast would still be better. Dreamcast never needed a mod, not even a soft one, to play copies - AND you could play all old ROMs via an emulator just like the Wii. Beat that
I never bought the Wii, but I definitely don't hate it. I do think there was a lot of false advertising for how advanced the motion control was (especially for games like Red Steel), but there are some decent games for it. Having said that, I think it's pretty sad if the quality of a console has to be judged solely on how well it can be exploited. If you wouldn't want to play it as it is out of the box, then it's not such a great piece of hardware.
