So, is it possible to modchip this console? Wondering cause I've got an opportunity to buy a complete set for like 10 dollars.

An ODE may be possible, but I haven't heard anyone actually try and confirmation either way. Noone cares enough, apparently. If you want my opinion, invest another $10-15 and get a "real" Wii instead.

So there's no tested and proven method yet?

None that I know of, at least. "yet", heh... as if that'd change any time soon... People lose interest in the Mini really fast, it seems. Maybe you can be the first to try anything with it, solve the chicken-and-egg problem?

Um, yeah. I'm a crafty amateur, at best. So, no. :D

Installing a Fusion, Sundriver or similar ODE would've been a plug-and-play job (edit: actually no, the Mini's drive doesn't use a flat cable... :(), and, if it didn't work out you could've easily moved it over to a "real" Wii. Just sayin'.

Eh. One more for the "lost interest" pile.

lol :p you just said it isn't compatible with "ode" (that's the modchip I assume?)

    http://www.datelcustomerservice.com/product_pdf/Wii - Drive Doctor.pdf

It can read ROM and read/write to internal and external RAM.

    1.) Drive Doctor/Memory Debugger -> standard Wii
2.) Boot into game with existing exploit on standard Wii
3.) Launch exploit from known attack point
4.) Copy the code from the debugger
5.) Drive Doctor -> Wii Mini
6.) Boot into same game with existing exploit on Wii Mini
7.) Manually inject code from the debugger to initialize the same exploit from the same known attack point

    Is this possible?

For starters, does the Mini's drive have all the necessary solder points to install the DD?

The Wii Mini drive appears to have slightly different connections. It would have to be retrofitted, if anything.

Man, I wrote that like a second before going to sleep. Read it again, it's fixed now :p

Ah, OK. ODE = optical drive emulator, as opposed to the more common meaning of "modchip" = "device enabling usage of burned discs". While the latter do exist for the Wii, they were in use only at the start of the Wii scene (things moved quickly to ODEs and softmods) so they're rather hard to come by these days.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that the modchips won't work on the Wii mini anyway - the drive in the Wii Mini seems to be based on the same chipset as the "D4" revision of the regular Wii, and that completely disabled the debug port that the modchips connected to. I would guess this would break the Datel Drive Doctor too, since I'm pretty sure that connected to the same debug port.

does the mini's drive use the same data connection as a regular wii?
does a regular wii motherboard fit in the mini?

I think the pin pitch/count is the same.

But the drive is paired to the mobo
