Wii U console kiosks are now out in the US at Best Buys, Toys R Us etc. I tried one at Best Buy. My impressions: 1. Controller feels cheap and plasticy. Its as huge as it looks in the videos. The screen on the controller is not that great. If your used to AMOLED or retina screens, you'll notice the difference immediately. Also there were tons of fingerprints on the unit I used which may be because it was a public unit or its a fingerprint magnet. The touch screen was responsive though and button response was fine. 2. The Wii U graphics are ok but not that great. They certainly look better then the standard Wii graphics but they are comparable to what you would find in a psn or xbox live game. They are current gen if anything. Supposedly its better graphically then a 360 but none of the games show this yet. 3. The only playable game on the kiosks is Rayman, the rest are video only and show the launch line up. Rayman is fun but theres a level where its all touch based and you find yourself completely looking away from the screen for the entire level and looking at the controller. So your going from your home hdtv 30 plus inch screen to a small screen and then for the next level back to your big hdtv. I found it kinda awkward. I didn't mind the touch level, it was fun, but the experience on Wii U didn't work for me.
The Wii U - Jaguar comparison does make sense in a way, since the Jaguar's library had a huge amount of ports, and the Wii U's launch lineup is about 90% ports.
Meh the Wii-U, not for me. But I must be honost, I don't really know much about it yet. Don't really feel the whole playing on a tablet tho. But it might change at the right price and more games. Hell even the Wii was not for me, but as soon as they drop to 100 bucks or less, I am picking one up.. I never liked the whole active waving your arms around gaming anyway, I just want to sit back/lay down and relax & play. But whatever, at a good price i'll wave a few just to get my generational Mario & Zelda fix. Can't really compare the Wii-U to Jaguar, the Jaguar was as good as DOA at launch. I actually bought the Jaguar on release day, blinded by the amazing claim of 64 bit, man, that was a rip off! Jaguar had only ONE game that was any good: AVP, and please don't reply with game X was great too on the AJ. BS! It's amazing how people pull rabbits out of hats in lack of good games on a console, claiming good games that are actually shit or same old if released on another console. Jaguar was, well.. for the brainwashed bit horney few that were blind to the shit it was or didn't care and could afford it. Yet Nintendo already piles customers just by having Mario, Zelda, Metriod etc. known and loved by the masses. Almost no matter what they do console wise.
Are you guys in the states getting the black Wii-U as well? I saw both in a Japanese add yesterday. It does look very cheap.
Yes we're getting a black Wii U which is considered a premium console and costs $349. You get a free copy of Nintendoland with it and has 32 gb storage. We also have a basic unit in white that will go for $299 and has 8gb storage.
Wii and second hand don't mix, usually in terrible condition with cookies shoved in. Unless its in prestine state for almost nothing ill stick to new. I'm waiting for the 99 euro or less new ones, price must drop after WiiU and christmas.
keep in mind that new wiis lack gamecube support. joystick ports and memory card ports are simply not there.
It's a potentially big effect depending on what you want to use the system for. Many users won't care, others will be bummed. Except for japan. Where that wii was never released.
Only looking at launch titles, how poor it may be for the WiiU, not much beats the Jaguar (Cybermorph, Raiden, Trevor McFur) What surprises me, looking up the release date for Zelda WiiU, it seems to be 2014... that's quite a long haul. If Zelda was a launch title, I would probably be all over it. Anybody know if there will be ports of current Wii Zelda's to WiiU, just having it in HD might make me skip the Wii alltogether. [edit] nevermind seems the WiiU is backwards compatible with Wii discs.
Wii U has Rayman Legends, which looks pretty damn awesome. Also: ZombiU, NSMBU, Nintendo Land, and Tank! Tank! Tank! Four interesting games is a pretty solid launch. Not a (U.S.) Dreamcast caliber launch, but then, nothing has been, or was before, or will be. 9/9/99 was just a damn magical day.
Keep them, I'll be playing my N64, Assuming I have it by then. If not My Crazy Taxiathon will continue
