Nintendo's Wii U console will start at ¥26,250 ($US337) in Japan and release on December 8th, it was announced during the Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation today. For comparison, the entry-level PlayStation 3 is priced at ¥24,980 in Japan, while the base Xbox 360 is priced at ¥19,800. Later they'll announce the price for NA, my guess is that it will be $299, which is not that good since its more expensive than the Wii, which was considerably cheaper than X360 and PS3 back then, and since the U has roughly the same specs than the current gen is not like you're paying for actual nextgen stuff. More as it develops...
There is the gamepad, so a price above what the Wii launched at is probably to be expected. We'll find out the North American details in a few minutes though. But at the same time, I believe there's a 2nd Japanese Nintendo Direct focused on games? Ha, I guess I'll be watching them side by side....
"Not paying for actual nextgen stuff" Really? You have to concede that the WiiU has next gen features. Surely you aren't one of those people that is still hung up on specs? Didn't the Wii kind of show that specs didn't matter?
Specs don't matter? if thats the case then why is nintendo launching a new console at all? dumbass... Anyway, yes it's official: $299 11/18 After the 3DS I would rather wait for the massive pricecut
It's the gamepad, it costs a lot to produce. THAT'S what you're actually paying for. The system is $200 basicly.
Can't wait to pay $300 to play ports of games everyone already finished on 360 and PS3 two years ago.
this pricing is more than fair, anyone saying it's grossly overpriced must be 12 and have never lived through a console launch in their life
consoles are not defined by specs or price, the ps2 was £400? when it was released in the uk from memory. ipads etc are well dumb and stupidly overpriced but people still by them. the console will be defined on its games how it plays and how much fun it is to use. im not going to shoot it down before its release and before its fot at least a years worth of games. dont see how anyone can "hope it bombs" before its release... bit harsh? personally i think having nintendo still in the hardware market is a good thing and also sorely wish sega still were
The feature set is why they are updating. The included titles(mii, etc), the social integration, the controller, the system menu. All reasons to update the system that have nothing to do with graphics. If you're so smart, why do you seem to miss such a big piece of the puzzle? This isn't the 90s. We don't release hardware just to improve the graphics anymore. There is a newly developed aspect to the market that you seem to miss.
"Wait and see" is what i will do. I don't pay for consoles, i pay for games. And considering there isn't even one game that gets my attention in the first wave games, it looks it will be a while before i consider a buy.
I'll pass. I think the games so far don't justify the price for me. I do think $300-$350 is a bit expensive for what they are offering. 32GB storage also isn't enough when games will be 8gb+ (the disc media holds up to 25gb). I just don't see this thing flying off shelves this xmas and I also still feel somewhat burned by the 3DS. So I think the best thing to do is wait and see where it is in 6 months.
Some UK stores are updating their listings with prices. So far it looks like the Basic package with the white console is £259.99, the black Premium set is £309.99 and the ZombiU package, which also includes a black Pro Controller and the game is £349.99!!! Amazon already has the Basic pack for £249.99, so over the next 11 weeks the prices will drop by at least 20 or 30 quid hopefully.
Bullllllshit. I don't like most of Nintendo's Wii output either, but if you don't think Metroid Prime, F-Zero GX or Super Mario Galaxy are great I dunno what to tell you.
You've probably been here long enough to know that GOH is impossible to talk to. He's a troll that honestly believes he isn't trolling
