WTF since when did the PSX suck at doing 2D? Sure while it was no dreamcast/saturn it still handled 2D bettery then any other console out there (I've coded 3 2D ps1 games).

The n64 is the one who sucked balls at 2D thanks to ungodly small T-MEM.

Riiiiiight, becos you know, is common sense that the Wii retails at $250, which is two and a half times the price of the GC, which is all the same.

Also is common sense what is driving SEGA nowadays, making crap games and whoring their licenses.

Why would IGN put a $60MSRP? if that wasnt true you can bet the same execs who show them the demo would have called them about that little mistake...

Jesus shadowlayer change the record already.

Every time the wii is mentioned you just bang on about how its too expensive & should be cheaper because its a gamecube. Its like im getting de ja vu every time you post in a wii thread.

Nobody seems to care about it but you.

By the way, about people not wanting 2D games, Contra Shattered Soldier. It's 3D, but the gameplay was entirely 2D and kicked ass. I think that there's just a stigma about doing a 2D game, or perhaps it just takes artist skills developers are lacking to draw out lots of sprites and animate them fluidly.

PSX did suck for 2D games that required more VRAM than it had, like NeoGeo and Capcom ports. But were it not for the VRAM limitation it was fine, it didn't seem to lack in any area badly. Saturn had I think 512kb more VRAM out of the box, plus you have your nice 4MB RAM cart giving you something like 5.5MB of memory you could use for graphics.

So anyway, I think 2D games can still be very successful on modern consoles if enough work is done on it and not just some rush job or compilation.

Were you living under a rock for the last 8 months? most members agree is overpriced, and if you think thats a minor issue and nobody should talk about that then you better dont say anything about the PS3 MSRP...

That or you're a rampant nintendo fanboy.

i grow weary of the Wii bickering. its the cheaper console out there. and no it isn't just an over priced gamecube even with the power being not much more they still have all the more space to work with on the bigger discs. thus more power to unlock that was hindered by smaller disc size

and about the game. i don't mind the 360 one. me and my friend played through the frustrationa and once you get the hang of the different powers and moves it can be a fairly fun game. especially 2 player on the mountain with all the guard towers. i look forward to the Wii one when i finally get a hold of the system

Anyways, back to Sonic and the secret rings .

I don't really like the cover art. I'd much perfer this as the promo art

Also, a while back they mentioned they were trying to incorporate Wiiconnect24
    (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_and_the_secret_rings)

I'm guessing the early febuary release will definitely mean that it probably won't. Though we can hope for a leaderboard or something, as Konami was able to incorporate the service into elebits. If Konami had the tools no reason Sega shouldn't.

For some reason the loading times on 2D games on non-cartridge formats *REALLY* bothered me. So much that i was too annoyed to play most of them for more than a few minutes. I dont know why i guess it is because im used to playing 2D on consoles that have no loading times. With 3D i got used to it (?)

I know it makes little sense, but still thats how i feel like :)

Fortunantly, that's one site. Plenty of other sites and mags (EGM and IGN for instance) have been praising this game.

Too right. I don't give a shit if it is a Game Cube (with some added stuff). Nintendo Have created a new game playing style and for that I'm happy to part with my cash. IF they had brought out the Wii control system for the Cube NOBODY would care less. It would have just faded away in to the obscure crap collection along with the Power Glove (although that was crap) and all the other stuff.

I never bought a Cube because to be honest it looked bloody awful but the Wii looks smart in the room and I'm grateful that I now have the chance to play Bio Hazard 4 and F-Zero GX ! I plan on getting more GC games for the wii in the future.

Fuck yeah! Game kicked ass, music did too.

I think the keyword there is IGN....so I bet it'll be 50$ not 60$...Are any Wii games 60$?

yey, more reasons to hate PAL. it's both CRAP and EXPENSIVE! what more could a kid ask? Oh, and we get titles after a great gap of delay usually! life's wonderful for gamers in europe :p

to be fair though, in the US price, tax isn't included in the suggested price :p in europe it is.

I got a chance to play Sonic and the Secret Rings (I believe it was called Sonic Wild Fire back then) for about 10 or so minutes in May, and personally I thought the game was probably one of the better Sonic games I'd played on a console in quite some time. It was linear, but the game focused a lot more on the speed and fast reflexes that have been sorely lacking in the series since Sonic's 16-bit days.

I can't speak for how much the game has changed since I played it, but if you can get past the fact that Sega hasn't released a good Sonic game in ages, I think it's actually going to be worth buying.

    Later.
