Portrait of Ruin was "meh". Dawn of Sorrow was cool... but suffered a lot from "me too" syndrome when held up against Aria of Sorrow. Now Aria of Sorrow I would say is better than SotN. The plot in that game just kicked ass. Though if you've already played Dawn, then its kinda spoiled for you and probably won't have the same impact. =\ Actually, I might would argue for Dawn as well. The gameplay in those games is just really good (collecting souls) and the final boss fight for Julius Mode in "Dawn" is just amazing. I love how the way you have to unlock it leads up to the "plot" of Julius Mode. :icon_bigg But yeah, the gameplay in Aria and Dawn really adds A LOT to the basic SotN formula. And like I said, the general plot is probably the best story arc in the Castlevania series IMO. Though I don't see how Soma or Jonathan are more emo than, "I hate you Dad! You're bad!" or "You steal men's souls! Hmph!"
Symphony has something in it that makes it feel...Good to play. Can't pin it down, but it just feels different then the GBA and DS games. I think it was the music and how the game looked. CoTM was the closest to pinning down that atmosphere. Even though it was not made by IGA, it screamed "I am trying to be the portable version of Symphony!". HoD was just...bad. Aria definatly had the best story and combat system. DoS lost something...The story was a bit stupid for a sequel, and the fact that it was in a "imposter castle" made it feel different. PoR was good, far better then DoS. However, it still doesn't quite have what SoTN had. Mostly with the music, lack of full voice acting (And the DS can do full voice acting. If Resident Evil: DS could, then so can a 2D sprite game with not that much dialog), and bright colors.
I purchased and played SOTN on 360 last night. Wow it plays great still to this day (and even on analog). I can't wait to put more hours into this game.
SotN was decent, at least as far as the cool 'plot twist' that turns into another plot twist dependent on items equipped.
I just realised (thanks to Eurogamer.net) that Alucard is Dracula backwards! When will this game stop surprising me, I wonder!
No it doesn't. Don't any of you guys read or something? Next you'll be saying you prefer the plot of Sonic 3 to Sonic 1!
Sonic 3 had a great plot! That was one of the first 2D actiony games that had little story scenes that I played!
Apparently you're the one lacking the ability to read... because MK actually DOES have a very interesting and complex plot.
Seconded! Even though it's kind of goofy and such, it definetly does have its own universe and stuff! Each game usually has a big plot behind it.
