Your favorite (Best) Games developers?

Discussion in 'Rare and Obscure Gaming' started by Benedict_Arnold, Jun 29, 2005.

  1. I was thinking today about my favorite game developers. Codemasters is definitely tops in my books...they made the Colin McRae Rally series for PS1, PS2, and Xbox. They also made a lot of Amiga games including Skidmarks!

Here are some of my other favorite developers (in no order):

1.) Reflections (they made Amiga games and then Destruction Deby and then joined Atari?)

2.) DMA Design - Made some of the best Amiga games, went to N64, then is now Rockstar? (GTA fame)

3.) Psynogsis - Psynosis was definitely one of the top three in my mind on the Amiga. When Sony bought them out they sort of went downhill. I think Wipeout is so boring now. Give me an updated version of Braticus, Brian The Lion, or Walker.

4.) Team 17 - Ok, Worms is so boring now as well. Get some balls and release Project X3 or Alien Breed 3D. (X2 was released on PS1 and very nice graphically but very hard. Alien Breed supposedly was in the works but no software house would pick it up)

5.) Factor 5 - They made one of the all time best series of games: Turrican. For you youngsters, they are also responsible for the Star Wars series on N64 and Gamecube.

What are you favorite developers? I'm sorry but EA in-house development is very lacking and over-rated. They can make a good sports game, but all of the other games suck (none of their 007 could compare to Goldeneye and their wrestling games are sub par).

Sonic teams definetly a favorite....but everything they've made lately has been kind of icky.....

Back in the PlayStation day's I thought Atlus, Squaresoft and Working designs...you know, all of the RPG makers were so cool but in the current gen there hasn't been much.....I don't like square-enix (the last few Final Fantasy games I thought really really sucked....my opinion though, since VIII is my favorite..)

I always loved SNK's fighting games more then Capcoms....

Id always had cool art for there games and there games are cool too.

Oddworld Inhabinants....I love oddworld and the games and charectars.....unfortuantly it looks like EA messed up the series (ie whatever happened to Strangers Oddysey..wahhhh) but I haven't played that yet...I also hear there gunna stop making games...anyhow, theres just a few I thought were cool...

  4. Did Working Designs actually develop cames or just translate them? What ever happened to them?

They developed them, they just took a freaking long time to do it....there translations were usually really good though, like in Lunar. I honestly haven't seen any games by them since Playstation 1 though...

    Free Radical
    Key
    Treasure
    Cave
    Namco Tales Studio
    GameArts

    No special order:

-Konami ( in great part because of kojima now)
    -Treasure
    -Capcom *
    -Rare
    -ID Software
    -Nintendo
(it wen't downhill, but they seems to finally understand)
    -Sega (going downhill, sadly)
    -SNK (going downhill too!)
-SquareSoft (mainly because of the nintendo days)
    -Enix

---Sometimes, i love them, while other times i hate 'hem! Category---
    -SquarEnix
    -Free Radical
    *
(yes, they are miling some of their franchises like no others (i'm looking at you, Megaman!), but they have the guts to release games with old school flavors (such as viewtiful joe and every 2d fighting games) and games with strange designs that not alot of compagny would try to sell by these days (viewtiful joe, Killer 7,..)

    No special order:

Taito - For making LOADS of high-quality arcade titles such as Rayforce, Metal Black, Darius series among others. And yes, I do love zuntata!

Tecno Soft - The upbeat metal FM jazz soundtrack is just about enough to spell bind me. Tecno Soft has a lovely habit of making everything just right and with a unique feel to it. That impresses me.

Razing - These guys, I feel, are so beyond every other game company out there. A lot of their work is simply flawless! Garegga forever!

Sega - Uh, Sonic, Golden Axe, Shinobi, need I say more? :)

Treasure - Mainly because of Dynamite Headdy and Yu Yu Hakusho Makyotohissen. Great ideas in those two.

Telenet - Gaiares, El Viento, Sol Feace etc.

Nintendo - Going down-hill though, like somebody mentioned, but yeah, I do love SMB3 among other titles.

NCS Masaya - Gleylancer, Langrisser series etc.

    Konami - Snatcher!!!

Arsys - Prince Of Persia (SFC) & Star Cruiser

    ...and many many more

Namco, Konami, Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, GameArts, Square (in the 90s: Front Mission 3, Einhänder, FF8), Tri-Ace, Enix, Taito, Psikyo.
Also, Sammy and Natsume made some great NES games, when they existed.

triace (valkyrye profile, star ocean saga)
squaresoft (old ff and old SaGa; legend of mana, secret of mana)
    enix (dragon warrior)
konami (PES and other nice things)
    snk (eh! almost anything)
    namco (Soul Blade, soul Calibur)
    Polyphony (Gran Turismo)

i don't understand this hatred torward enix after the merge. they have yet to publish anything big so far and they seem to be going to make the same things but finally with up to date graphics. (think of DW7 and the upcoming DW8) it's square that it's going down since the mediocre ff7 and the great FFT. (ff8-9-x-x-2? you're joking! 100% commercial game)

    in no particular order

    Rare(Killer Instinct)

Nintendo (they have released some good games)

Capcom (the SF2 and Turbo, since SSF2 and turbo has fuckedup the cool soundtrack from the two first installments in that series) and the Resident Evil (all of those i have watched been completed on PSX when one of my former friends had the games) and some of their other games they have made

Square , but i am VERY biased with them today , since i like their old games but i don´t like their anti-tribute remake gaming attitude. so that is why i hate there guts today

    Namco

    Konami

and i could go on, but i don´t want to since i feel i could a very long list out, but many of your mentioned companies is also some of my favorites :)
