Ubisoft isn't Electronic Arts at all, they're talented. It's true that EA own a little part
of Ubi (i think it's 10%, maybe less), but which compagny EA doesn't own a bit of, by these days, anyway?

And i like Rainbow six alot, and i'm not personally interested in splinter cell (Mgs's way better, imo), apart for the online, wich is pretty damn fun, but only present in the last two episodes. But these games aren't the only games that ubisoft worked on, and when i'm talking about the talent of ubi, i'm thinking especially of beyond good and evil (wich was suposed to get a sequel, but i doubt it will now, since piss-poor sales ( and i still wonder why ( good games doesn't mean you'll get good sales nowdays (and bad games can be best sellers (i'm sure you have 4 or 5 tittles that poped in your mind right now, so no need to name them))))) and prince of persia, especially their first one.

if so, then you must pick up a copy of good and evil a.s.a.p.

....what did i said? this isn't EA.

  4. EA tends to ruin smaller developers. They buy them out and then screw them over.

Yep, NCS Masaya made the SFC version of PoP aswell as the MD version of Star Cruiser, but I can't decide on which version I like the best, so I'll just give Arsys most of the credit. I just love Toshiya Yamanakas compositions.

ohh i didnt mean ubisoft IS ea, I just ment I always kind of thought of there games as mediocre. But I will pick up beyond good and evil. ;)

  7. I second that. Beyond Good And Evil is one of the most underrated games of recent times. And, with it having been released on all three major systems, there's no reason why ANYONE shouldn't have it by now!

Actually, Argonaut was the developer of the original StarFox as well as Vortex (the other big initial SuperFX title) on the SNES/SFC. I'm not sure if they worked on StarFox 64 or not, but I suspect they got absorbed into one of Nintendo's in-house groups.

And yet another glaring omission on my part - RED Company (though I think they're now a part of Sega's Overworks branch). The Bonk series back on the TurboGrafx, Sakura Taisen, and a whole slew of other classics I can never remember.

  8. Well, I'm thinking Argonaut is the same company who made Starglider 2 on the Atari ST. Can someone confirm? That was one of their first hits (if it's the same developer).

Argonaut did make the original Star Fox? I was always under the impression that Nintendo did due to the shear quality. Compare Star Fox to the bloody awful (but great soundtrack) Vortex and you'll see why. Oh well, looks like Argonaut used up all there great ideas in the original Star Fox :)

It was a co-production. Arganaut was responsible for the technical part while Nintendo got to do all the fun stuff (including the soundtrack, by Koji Kondo and Hajime Wakai) :)

  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argonaut_Software

    Or read this:
Argonaut Games PLC is a British video game developer. Founded as Argonaut Software by teenager Jez San in 1982 the company name is a play on the movie title Jason and the Argonauts.
    [edit]

    History

The company produced its first game Skyline Attack for the Commodore 64. It later produced the 3D Starglider games for the Amiga and Atari ST platforms.

In 1993 it designed the Super FX 3D graphics accelerator chip for the SNES and developed the game Star Fox to take advantage of it.' The division that designed the chip, Argonaut RISC Core, was spun off in 1998 to market configurable RISC-based chips.

Argonaut Software was split into Argonaut Technologies and Argonaut Games in 1999. Argonaut Games was floated the following year.

In late October 2004 Argonaut Games called in receivers David Rubin & Partners, sacked 100 employees and was put up for sale. Lack of a constant stream of deals with publishers lead to cashflow issues and a profit warning earlier in the year.

    Indeed.
From the later days of the 16 bit era, to the later days of the 32 bit era, it was paradise. Let's say 93 to 99 - that's the golden age. Though there were some great ones in the early 80s, some great ones in the early 90s and some great ones in the early 00's

I should also say I forgot a company:

Atari (the original one) - before the Crash, and then some years after.

I mean, these people came up with Pong, Breakout, Asteroids, Missile Command, Battlezone!

Imagic (Cosmic Ark, Atlantis) and Activision (Pitfall, Boxing ) were great in the 2600 era too. I also admire the Blue Sky Rangers from Mattel - and Bally/Williams did bring/make many good ones.

Kuifje is called TinTin in English. I remember that SNES game. Never really go in to it though. By the way, I used to read Tintin books when I was a child :) Couldn't stand his dog, Snowy.
