Any unleaked Dreamcast games in circulation?

Joshprod said he is friend of the developer and he confirmed that the demo really exist(Im talking about Agartha)

Plus, we don't even know if there's any build for Castlevania Resurrection on the DC...

 

Only two are known to exist:

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (sold here in the marketplace years ago)
(Microsoft) Flight Simulator - a user here found the files on a devkit and posted about it in the specific Dreamcast forum here but nobody made any effort to see if it could be salvaged, etc... there was (just about) zero interest which is a real shame, and quite surprising.

The rest of the games on the list are all unaccounted for.

 

Who knows, they could appear somehow (unless no progress was made beside the announcement), just like what happend with Agartha...

 

Aww man, Midtown Madness would have made a sweet Dreamcast game!

This games run on dreamcast. For video, its was better to use demul.

I believe thats on days this games can be finished. Why not. ...

The work on this early demo is really impressive. This project need a second live.

In some cases I say no to this but then again this isn't a star wars title people were ready to pounce all over so perhaps it's different?
Battlefront 3? Hell no that attention fucked me up
First assault? I wouldnt even say it now if someone else hadnt released it first (battlefront 3 attention messed me up man)
Gears of war 3 on the PS3? Unimportant but people still beg because "I wont believe it til I see it" despite any effort explaining to them you NEED a devkit for it.

I wouldnt release anything after my experience with Battlefront 3 because the sheer amount of things that followed was way worse than holding it. Even if somehow a Saturn build of Shemue made its way to me I wouldn't dare say a word. Id want it preserved and shown, but past that I wouldn't release that at all. It's too hot to handle.

Sometimes I think some things should wait for release even if it's something like this Dreamcast title, because once things die down it will be much easier to handle.

 

So, any chance of a video of the disc booting up on a retail Dreamcast?

Your reasons for not releasing it are perfectly justified and many users here would be happy enough with some kind of visual proof of the disc running. It's entirely your choice to share or not - as many have pointed out Borman is a good example who of a user who obviously can't share certain titles but makes some mighty fine videos instead - often with early versions/etc these are more than enough for the sake of documentation.

 

That would be nice but it's up to Laurent to show a image of the GD-ROM or a least a video showing the demo running on real hardware to seal the deal, although Phillipe of Joshprod games contacted one of the key members from No Cliché and he confirmed that the demo is real.

 

And I'm always willing to help out and record things discreetly. I can record VGA right from a DC and send you the video. I can even properly scale it for you.

 

I fully understand not everything can be released to the public, for such a variety of reasons. In this sort of case, it's nice to at least see a good video of it in action, outlining what it contains. If that can be done, the surrounding mystery can be cleared, and everyone can move on knowing to what extent it exists.

 

I don't understand at all. Maybe I'm out of the loop. What made the other games you released OK to release but this one commands "respect?" Do you know the developers personally and they prefer if you don't put their unfinished work out there? You didn't really elaborate.

Sorry if that sounds confrontational or privileged, kind of hard to straight out ask without it coming out that way in text. I'm only just curious.

Thanks for the video btw. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned D2. It's kind of got the same idea of being in the snowy mountains. Menus are too RE inspired. It's lack of originality likely was part of its demise.

In defense of Laurent, sometimes you get your hands on something but only with conditions. Sometimes the source is afraid of being traceable, sometimes there are other — valid — reasons and sometimes the reasons are bullshit. But in any case, if you accept the conditions, you are bound to respect them, otherwise people wouldn't trust you in the future. Maybe he can share videos of the gameplay but not the files, that's still better than nothing: we now know it exists and that there's a working copy.

I've had betas for months before they were released publicly, but I never considered the files mine as long as I didn't have the explicit permission to share them.

 

This is why anyone with devnet access is usually unwilling to share. Especially now since things are watermarked on Sony's side. I know I was personally given stuff not to share, and I've done my part to respect that request, even down to the original owner selling it to a new person and asking them what restrictions are in place.

Preservation is vital, yes. Nobody here will disagree. But at the same time if the circumstances aren't favorable it might need to wait.

 

Anyone who likes the Dreamcast and cares about preservation should know Laurent has made some pretty big contributions, without ever asking for anything in return from the community. So for me, if Laurent choses not to release a certain beta I'm pretty sure he has all the right reasons for doing it.
