I think many gamers these days have no idea what it was like in the 80's. People who grew up witht heir first console being the N64 or PlayStation really did miss out on some great stuff.
I remember playing the Master System version of Hang-On when I was 7, And thinking gaming couldn't get better, Then playing the arcade version of Super Hang-On on holiday. It was so much better, Gaming heaven for me back then
No, It's the initials of my name followed by L for Leicester the city I live in, Didn't know there was a record label called PWL.
Yeah, back in the 80's PWL was one of the bigger record labels. Mostly thanks to Stock Aiken & Waterman.
Oh man, you are fast. I put those up there this afternoon after a co-worker sent me the link. I'm hoping to get enough money together to upgrade the show to 4k. I'll need a capture card that can do 4K at 60fps mind you.
I definitely didn't like the Playstation's Strider port music, it's kind of weird. But I liked the arranged version of the PC Engine port (but Hiryu sometimes looks like is skiing...go figure). I'd played the Mega Drive and Master System versions a lot so I'm very found of them, even the SMS version, btw it's a surprise it looks better than the Amiga version. There's no way to forget the third level, getting upside down and battling the giant sphere boss while flying around it. Damn that's simple amazing!
hah yeah, I was browsing the site and I happened upon your page there. I was surprised! As far as the DVD is concerned, will it just be the files on a DVD or will it be playable in a regular ol DVD player ?
That depends upon what people want. DVDs are lower resolution plus can't be in 60fps so I think files on a disc would be best as far a quality goes. But if someone really wanted a DVD disc to be a normal movie did it could be done.
Considering the source of most games being low resolution, I could see it ending up ok I would hope. But at the same time, I think 60FPS in MPEG2 is possible? The Game Center CX DVDs that were released in the US through Disotek are considerably smoother than any TV ripped episode i've seen and the game footage seems often to be at 60FPS. Maybe it IS just 30FPS? I usually watch them on a CRT over component video and they do feel like 60FPS. Maybe it's just me ha
I looked in to DVDs and they only run at 29.54fps or 25fps for PAL discs. Hmm, I do think the shows look much better in 60fps, especially the scrolling text at the bottom of the screen. New Battle of the Ports - Hard Drivin'
Wow thank you Yakumo for the new Battle of the Ports Video Hard Drivin' The SNES Game has the worst rating on our website for Reviews and you get to the point exactly. I bet there was no worster part then the SNES Version but the C64 Version beat all Ports. Also thank you for remembering back in the past. I forgot about this game. I played it in the 90s in Italia on a arcade and now im remembering it. Thank you so much.
Hard Drivin' was indeed impressive back in the day. I do remember playing the Panorama version, a 3 screen DX model, at the arcades. Anyway, the SuperFamicom is downright embarrassing. They should be ashamed of actually releasing that. But the Atari ST version... The thing is so bugged it's actually funny! The checkpoint counted before you even reached it, the car crashed 2 times without a reason on the underpass... There some other ports you might also try, the PlayStation version called Race Drivin' A Go! Go! (with a terrible cover). I do think it looks different from the Saturn version, but can't be 100% sure. Couldn't even find a video of it on youtube. There's also a compilation called Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (PS2, Xbox and GC) that has the emulated arcade version.
It seems a lot of people don't rate Hard Drivin' at all but it will always have a special place in gaming history to me. The SFC version was released by T.HQ. EVERYTHING with their name on it during the 90's was total crap. I'm surprised they managed to last as long as they did.
Hard Drivin' is OK, but the DOS game Stunts is very similar but better in every way except graphics. It even has a track editor! That's actually a port of Race Drivin', the sequel, so it's not relevant to this video.
Stunts was awesome back in the day. I used to create lots of tracks for it and also download from the internet on a dial up modem. I think it is relevant since he used the Race Drivin' versions of Super Famicom and Saturn on the video.
