Nice. That reminds me of the first person sections on Alien Storm.

The nostalgia... I still remember the first time i saw a japanese PS1 on a local game store and being amazed. Ridge Racer was one of the games that really got me. No wonder i have both the US and Japanese releases of the game in my collection.

Do you know the PS1 port was actually based on the updated Ridge Racer II for the arcades? The N64 game, in my opinion, looks terrible. The clean and stretched textures seem out of place and the texture filtering actually makes things worse. Not having the original cars doesn't help it either.

I really need to find a mint copy of RRT4 and RR7 for the PS3 to complete my collection.

Yep, Ridge Racer is pure nostalgia. I'll remember that Riiiidge Racerrrrr along with Daytonaaaa until the day I die :)

I agree about the N64 game but for an N64 Racer it is very good. Most racers on the N64 are much worse compared to Ridge Racer.

I would like Namco to release the arcade versions of Ridge Racer, Rave Racer and Ridge Racer 2 in a style similar to what Sega did with Daytona USA on the 360 and PS3.

I guess you're right about N64. Although Wipeout 64 is very good, with great fps.
Maybe check it for a future BOTP?

As for porting arcade classics, Namco and Sega are just the same. They are sitting on great franchises and don't seem to want to make money from them. Shame really.

Since you enjoy Ridge Racer so much, i totally recommend Ridge Racer Revolution (if you haven't checked it out yet) and Ridge Racer V. Ridge Racer V was a launch PS2 title, looks bad (no AA means aliasing all over the place) but the game is so much fun.

I do have Rage Racer as well, but it was never one of my favourites. Still, worth a try, specially since you can probably find all of them for dirty cheap.

Ridge Racer Revolution I own :) love that just as much as the original. May get RRV if cheap for my PS2.

Nice one mate : ) Great to see some RR love. I enjoyed this episode very much, thank you!

That N64 port is awful, I much prefer the blockier PSX port. Shame about your footage on the the PSP version it doesn't do it justice, that game is so smooth to play, played both iterations on PSP both great albeit a tad repetitive.

I agree on RRV good game, you should get it, got mine JP copy for a few quid, mint!

Enjoyed that thanks, Ridge Racer was one of those landmark games from the early PS era and I still have the series on PSOne, Type 4 being my favourite.

You left out the DS port though! I think I would have done the same tbh, it's not great.

This doesn't feel like a new console generation without a new Ridge Racer. I still play 7 to this day

Racing sims are great and all But nothing beats drifting with ease around a corner or in later games drifting with ease around a corner then blasting to the lead with Nitrus.

It's a great crashing into walls simulator!

I really like the 3DS Ridge Racer though, picked it up for £4 and wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.

LEMMYWINKS YOU MUST MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE LARGE INTESTINE OR YOU WILL SURELY DIE.

I haven't seen much from the 3DS ridge racer, I should look into that.

You should do an episode on DOA or DOA2. Both of those games have a lot of ports.

The problem with that is I'd have to buy most of the versions :(

I own the Saturn, PSX, Xbox and that's it. Of course I could emulate the arcade game.

With Dead or Alive 2, I do own the Dreamcat version but would have to buy the PS2 game. The arcade maybe be emulated and I also have it on the Xbox but apart from that it's no go :(

Those are all of the versions, right? There are a few arcade versions too. I'm not sure about in Japan, but in the US, DOA2: Hardcore for PS2 is pretty cheap. That's the only one you're lacking, right?
