Quality as usual. Can't believe you are 150 shows in, that time has flown. It's amazing how many ports there are out there for so many different systems, sometimes I wonder why they bothered but hey it makes for good viewing these days. Excellent concept for a show. Can't wait to see what's up next.
Ah yes, should have read that I guess the cart would be a little difficult to source in Japan, a rom should be out there though.
I still have at least another 150 titles to cover too. I never thought when I started this show I'd even make past 20, haha. I could even find a working Rom dump
The first video of 2017 is here. Battle of the Ports - Mr. Do! NOTE - The Amiga and Atari ST versions of Mr. Do! are not based upon the original arcade game which is why they are not featured on this video. The same goes for the Neo Geo remake. It's a different game. Versions of Mr. Do! that should have been featured on this video but are sadly not include the Fujitsu FM7, PC98 and the Tomy Pyudai system. The Wii virtual Console version is not considered for this video as it's nothing more than an emulation of the arcade version.
Yes, Mr. Do! is a classic that was loved by many who are now in their 40's and 50's. This week's Battle of the Ports is finally here after having some PC issues.
Yes, the C64 is pretty good considering the hardware. I was pleasantly surprised. The next Battle of the Ports is going to be a big one!
Wow you put some work into that!! Thanks. Nice to see them all side by side, the Mega Drive version was always my favourite but man was it tricky. What's up with the Apple 2 title screen looks like it was created with Paint by a 4 year old.
Never actually saw the arcade version of Paperboy, It's a shame, always curious of how the game behaved with the unique handlebar controller. But i do remember borrowing the Master System version from a neighboor. Really enjoyed the game, to the point i was actually surprised to know it was ported by Tiertex. As soon as i saw the Tiertex name on the intro i was like "Oh no, memories tricked me". Not really, in fact after seeing the episode i dare to say it's the best port out there. Much respect for the ZX Spectrum too. The programmer really knew it's limitations, focused on the gameplay aspects and the final result is very good. PS: Some monts ago Jeremy Parish covered the Gameboy/NES versions. Worth checking out:
Are you still planning on doing Primal Rage at some point? I recently got the SNES version. I now have that, the Genesis version, and the 32X version. I think the 32X version is the best of those 3, but I'd have to play it again.
NOTE: I've been having some major issues with my capture and editing PC recently. My normal software for editing Battle of the Ports, TraxaxPC decided it wanted to be registered again. Problem is that TraxAx is no longer on-line so I can't get the reg' code validated. Meaning I have software that's of no use now. Thanks to stupid digital media. So I moved on to Sony Vegas Pro but that kept crashing during editing then kept freezing every time I tried to render the video. I ended up editing the show again for the 3rd time on some crappy software known as VideoPad Video Editor. It really is rubbish. I couldn't even alter volume tracks and the way it works is so counter-intuitive. It's horrible software. Anyway, that's why this show was late and looks cheaply edited. Oh, and no scrolling text bar either Time Code 00:11 - Arcade 02:21 - Apple ][ 03:59 - MD Dos 05:52 - Famicom / NES 08:28 - All versions side by side Enjoy!
Sucks Dude Good job anyway still a good quality show. For editing I now use DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design, it's way over the top in terms of features but very stable, I've used it to do my most recent videos. I've also HitFilm express but it wasn't as stable as Resolve. Bit of a learning curve on Resolve but it's free
Ah, I tried HitFilm Express but it kept crashing. I'll give DaVinci Resolve a try. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for releasing a new episode Mark. Sorry to hear about the software issues. Have you tried using System Restore and go back to a previous restore point? Anyway, don't worry about making new episodes while you're having these issues. I imagine it takes a lot of work to capture the gameplay videos and edit them together, record voiceover... So only get back to it after your sorted this.
I've been asked for this one a lot over the past year so I finally got around to making it. Battle of the Ports - Primal Rage
Ah Primal Rage... Remember seeing it on an arcades once, two weeks later it was gone. I wonder why... Your video shows some interesting and curious port differences. The GameGear port has an intro, while there isn't on the Mega Drive and SuperNintendo. The Saturn and 3DO have that cheesy early 90's CGI intro, a style that was often seen on some intros for arcade ports for the PS1, while the actual PS1 port has the original arcade intro.
