Actually, they were, but somehow it fell through. Not sure how it would've worked, porting Sat->PSX would've required a lot more corner-cutting than Sat->PS2...
by one way i hope panzer dragoon saga never gets ported. because that would mean i would stop watch psx fans pay 120gbp for a saturn game on ebay but by the other way that could revive the franchise,,,but the porting of pds to any console is in a really "hard" situation..
It's not a Sega Ages title. It's full-priced (well, somewhat cheap) and will have updated graphics. The SA2500 series of recent are all straight ports.
Oh, ok but still, it's just the same game but prettier, right? To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing it but I'm not upset or care that it's on the PS2. Even if it was coming to the Wii I wouldn't buy it since I've played the original NiGHTS to death over the last 10 years. Yakumo
What system would you prefer it on? In all likelihood, it's still ugly as balls. This is great for those of us that don't want to bother w/a Wii, and are still waiting for at least one half-decent game to come out on the PS3 before dropping 500 large.
I wouldn't like it on any. A classic such as NiGHTS should stay on the system it was original made for unless it's a brand new game. Yakumo
So instead Sega should create a new system that plays SMS, Genesis, 32X, SegaCD, Saturn, and Dreamcast games. And then bundle Nights with it.
By looking at the pics it seems they've not only increased the resolution, but also the original textures and increased the poly count on both characters and levels (unlike VirtualON which looks like a straight model2 port). In that case it could stand a change, altought gameplay wise is too simple and too short for these days... Lets see, a super-VC capable console with every game made by SEGA... That would be AWESOME!
I don't want a VC, I mean an actual console that had more efficant chipsets for each console integrated with I guess some kind of master system that handles which subsystem is active. Like it would detect if you have a cartridge inserted, if not check for a disc and if you have it figure out what that's for. Although if you make an emulator that uses original media and also features 100% accuracy and compatibility, that's ok too.
i just love ur estimations. They re based on fuck all! xD but very true, the licensing, manufacturing and after-sale support would be back-breaking.
Emulation... it would definitely be made w/ emulation. And of course, wouldn't sell for shit. Once again, Virtual On is a Sega Ages release. This is not (from all information given). The original is fun, yes. Pretty? No. I'd like to see Sega take a crack at it, in all honesty.
Is it even possible for Virtual Console or PSN to emulate Saturn titles? I want to play Burning Rangers and Sonic 3D Blast without hunting for a Saturn. EDIT: From what I read from the NiGHTS 2 interview with Takashi Iizuka, it all depends how the game is coded. So that answers part of the question.
I read in a magazine they drooped the idea after they realized it would be too difficult due to the way the psx processor is drastically different and the ram being much lower.
Well for once most of the hardware is so obsolete that finding the exact same pieces actually means you'll have to build them. Semiconductor facilities, manufacturing, and getting all kinds of hardware which were designed during the last 25 years (from the Z80 to the SH4) working together translates into a lot of dough, and the final product, much like the homermobile, is going to be both expensive, ugly and kinda dumb. Emulation through the use of a central network of downloadable games is the best choice out there, since emulation using the original media of said consoles is just asking for trouble. And GP, I know VirtualON is AGES, I'm just saying they could release a remake instead of just a port, and Nights is an example of that.
Well, they tried that w/ the first dozen or so SA2500's and they all sucked for the most part. Besides, it doesn't need a remake when it's got a sequel. Another sequel would be nice (a non-broken one from what I hear).
Why? It makes no sense if the game will port without any real sacrifice. A new generation of fans could be built for the franchise and the costs would be much lower for Sega.
