This site has a focus on beta and unreleased prototype software, not current generation software that has yet to be release. The rules against hosting versions of software in development are there because the crowd here is not interested in encouraging piracy in any way. With a game like Crimson Dragon (that is still scheduled to be released), hosting a full, dev version would be akin to piracy and would likely get the site in hot water. There have been troubles with this in the past when people tried to sell beta copies of work-in-progress games. While individual collectors may acquire games in this state, and are usually happy to talk about them, none are going to take the risk of posting one publicly since that could cause headaches. That's why the bounty is specifically for the retail demo that was released on Japan XBLA. XBLA demos are *designed* to be freely shared. If it is hosted here, there shouldn't be any legal concerns. Plus, it is also something that *anyone* with an Xbox 360 could run. For a dev version, you'd need special hardware.
^ This. I'm not a fan of 360 as a console or Kinect as a gaming device, but I am willing to buy this game. Regarding the actual demo, I inquired about it on thewilloftheancients forums and got a very polite but logical response as to why he'd rather not share it: As much as I'd really like to download and play this demo, he does have a VERY valid point. It was deliberately pulled from the market for a reason and whether we like the reason or not, we have no choice but to respect it to a certain degree. If it were my IP being released too early by someone else's error, then I'd have pulled it from the market also, especially if releasing it in it's current state had legal issues regarding code/assets or even certain security weaknesses such as debugging information, bugs, and other things that go against the Microsoft TCR requirements that all games must pass before being released to the market. I'm not teling anyone what to think here, but given those possibilities, maybe we should consider these. Securing your IP is one of the #1 priorities of big corporations. I also heard this mentioned by others, and I really hope it isn't so. If they are going to wait until the next console is released, then I'll refuse to play or buy it because there is no way in hell I'm ever going to own a console that requires you to be on LIVE and have a Kinect attached at all times in order for it to work! F@#% that s@#%.
Not a rumor. If you want to play Crimson Dragon on the Xbox 360, the Japanese demo is the only way to do it legally. Game has moved core development to the Durango and should drop as a launch title. It's this generation's Kameo.
To avoid the risk of someone finding this randomly in the future, I'm going to close the bounty offer at the end of the weekend. If it's not claimed by Sunday, no PSN credit. So if you want it, work your contacts.
can't believe how unwilling those i've asked about it are against uploading a demo that went fucking public.. acting as if it's some holy grail.
I'm not surprised... obviously people think it's worth more than PSN and XBL money. Perhaps these people should let us know how much they want for it Or PM me, I want this!!!
Looks like they really think it's worth more then offered, gonna raise my xbl points to 4k for the bounty, just let me know for which country you need them.
Here is one post on TWOTA: http://forums.thewilloftheancients.com/viewtopic.php?t=3739 Guy called Draikin definitely has the demo since he made the video of it. Someone asked him back in March about it... http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/requests/12315-crimson-dragon-demo.html Some people feel this should not be shared because Microsoft pulled it off XBLA...
I might regret posting this later on, but anyway. I'm Draikin from The Will of the Ancients, one of the apparently few that managed to get the demo. It's not a question of how much the bounty is, the reason I haven't distributed the demo is simply because Yukio Futatsugi doesn't want it to be distributed. And that's understandable, since the game is unlikely to be released for the current XBox. That doesn't mean I don't ever intend to make the demo available. I took a backup of it (at least I think I did, I've yet to verify if it actually works), and we'll probably upload it for everyone once the game is actually released and Microsoft/Grounding Inc. won't mind as much.
Asking for stuff from the xbox scenesters? Are you crazy? Do you guys even know the secret handshake?
Well if it's secret then we're not supposed to know about it... now do we??? I won't tell anyone about my secret handshake either
It's like any other thing that few people have. It's rare until more people get it. This is just an unusual case because the dev version (which requires a dev kit or JTAG to play) is the more common one and the retail demo (which can be freely shared by design and will run on any system) is the one that few people have. Then again, there may also be monetary concerns. After all, the retail demo was public, so anyone who has it can take screens, make YouTube videos, etc. If only a small handful have it, that is a money maker for them. They'll get the video hits and the site visits. Few are willing to do the same with dev stuff (with guys like Borman being notable exceptions). As soon as the demo hits a public site (like Digiex) then that "exclusivity" is gone. It's pretty much always about money (and connections) when it comes to collecting. Once Durango is out and everyone has a chance to play the next-gen Crimson Dragon demo, I wouldn't be surprised if Draikin (or others) are more willing to share it. At that point the interest in the 360 version will have diminished, so there will be little financial incentive to keep it "exclusive." So basically, it comes down to one of the following: 1) Hope that someone who has the public demo sees this thread (either by pointing it out to them or talking about it on other sites) 2) Wait until Durango and Crimson Dragon are out and the general interest level has died down
Draikin, thank you for your comments and welcome to ASSEMbler. I can appreciate where you're coming from, I guess we'll all have to be patient. Was there an official statement from Yukio on the demo release? Hopefully they will stick to a 360 release.
That's the point I was trying to make. You're one of the few who not only does this without a profit motive, but you also always try to share as much as you can. Many times, you put out code. When you can't do that, you usually do a good deal of coverage via video and screens. It's good work and it's obvious that you do it from a love of the art form rather than simply trying to make that "fat cash."
