I'm sure they have plenty of not so wonderful things to say about us but then I recall that most of them have absolutely no idea what significance Tienanmen Square has to history and dismiss their complaint.
BRB, starting thread about how black-skinned people always seem to be blasting rap music out of their Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes. I don't understand the purpose of this. Generalizations suck. Better not put me in a fucking category.
They problem is, they don't do when they're in Rome. And not just Asians. Europeans are equally as awful. As dick head as it sounds, when you're in a tipping job, generally the best customer is a white male... better if they're gay. Tips will never come to Japan. They're only there at places targeted at foreigners.
Yeah, but consider how (at least here), wages are reduced for many tipping jobs because they get tipped already. The employer gets to pay the employee about $2 an hour because they make so much in tips (of course, they are legally required to pay the employee enough so they make AT LEAST legal minimum wage if they do not get tipped enough per hour). I assume things like drinks cost more in Japan, and the employers are paying their people more.
I'll take tips included in the price over tipping anytime! Such a hassle to leave a tip at the end of the night, calculating what is reasonable etcetera etcetera.
That's neither here nor there. Tipping is the norm, and is how the worker makes their money. There are plenty of books that explain this which are available before you get to your target destination. Drinks aren't always more expensive in Japan but they tend to be in "normal" places. Specific venues in the states crush just about anyting you can imagine though: sports events and Las Vegas to name a few. I still tip in those places, despite the high cost. Wow... you lived here and never went to a bar? The Japanese redefine many things... and why we have a tipping system in the US is at the top of that list.
Never went to a bar? I practically lived in bars haha. I was talking about when I'm in my own country (Holland) though, might not have made that clear. I love countries where I don't have to worry about tipping the staff and tbh I have no problem whatsoever if all restaurants and bars here in Holland upped their prices 10% and would get rid of the tipping system. And yes, I am aware of why the tipping system exists and how it motivates employees to work harder but as a customer I find it obnoxious. Also, in Holland we're not as strict as Americans about tipping since some places will already include it in their prices ( and you get paid a normal wage working in a restaurant/bar here, a tip is just a bonus and some restaurants and bars will go as far as to keep the tips and tell the employees it's already in their salary..). First time I came back after living in Japan for a while I honest to God forgot to tip for atleast a month.
Japanese suck at tending bar...plain and simple. They are not fast enough to handle something more than a very quiet bar. Not to mention the drinks are famously weak. Tip system +2.
Why the fuck should you tip him. That's his Job. The problem in Japan is that they are too F*ing slow at EVERYTHING! Or at least it seems that way to most westerners. Anyway, Wasn't this thread about Chinese?
I tip on how I feel the service was and not on some percentage the server thinks they're owed. I don't reward crappy service and have no problem going above and beyond when they do the same. I also refuse to pay mandatory gratuities. I basically have four rules for me to give a good tip. 1. Get the menu to me fast. 2. Check on me at least once after being served. 3. Don't make me wait in paying the bil. And the most important rule for me... 4. Make sure my glass never goes empty.
Because in the US they only get payed like $2 an hour? why would a person run around and deal with bs for minimum wage anyway>? they'd rather just sit their ass at a mcdonalds drive through and eat shit all day. tip..... to improve promptness... ...
We all have our cultures and values, I noticed Chinese people love to make fun of others pain/mistakes but hell I like this too tbh. Without a doubt you will have cultural differences that might insult a Chinese person as well, and right at this moment some Chinese are discussing this same thing on a Chinese forum about you/us whatever. And as for tipping, just because people are up in your face while giving you service you have to tip them? what about back in the days when I worked at a helpdesk and helped out lots of people, did I ever see even 1 freaking tip for the great service? NO So fuck all you bartenders, waiters, taxi drivers, pizza deliverys and what not that expect tips, really! If I tip, it's because I am too lazy to wait for my freaking change. If you have to live from your tips, then your boss is a prick and underpays you and you should get another job.
Agreed. Tips are for good service ONLY , not to make someone give you good service. That's just bull shit. If the whole world had than mentality we'd be in a right mess. "Oh, I'm not working because that guy never tipped me" Yeah, right. Yakumo
According to a study, only 1 in every 200 chinese people is satisfied about his/her sexual life. Here's a link to the article. I couldn't find it in english, but it's from EFE agency of news. http://www.observa.com.uy/vida/nota.aspx?id=103991&ex=25&ar=3&fi=1&sec=14
Service should be default, good service also. I am paying to get this, if I don't then I most likely wont be coming back to that place/do business with etc. People that tip by default, even with bad service should wake up, they are the ones creating this bullshit. If somebody would go out of his way to help me, like I noticed happens in Asia sometimes.. like sitting in a restaurant and asking if they have a sigaret vendor machine, and the waiter offers to get it at some 7/11 for you.. fine he deserved a good tip.. But just getting attention, your food and your bill in time IS DEFAULT service, it should be the minimum requirement to run a business and is in no way a reason to tip them. Sadly good service is almost non existant here in Holland, but tips are.. how rude :fresh:
I never leave tips... Call me cheap, but nobody tips nurses or highschool teachers... Waiters are doing their job. If the service is exceptional, I leave a small tip. But that's it
China's the same way about tipping. There's really no such thing. It's called doing your job. And if you don't like it? there are about a billion people who would be happy to take your spot.
