I was wondering if there's a classic video game that you just hate for whatever reasons. Not just a game that is already known to be extremely bad or difficult, well, then it'd be obvious why you hate it. I'm more asking for games that are usually appreciated as good classics so it's a bit more special if someone just can't stand playing it. I got the idea for this when I recently saw a video mentioning Antarctic Adventure by Konami (aka Kekkyoku Nankyoku Daibouken). I first played the MSX version years ago and I was kind of psyched for it because I heard it's an early Konami classic. Oh boy, it sucked so much!! I forced myself to play it for at least 30 minutes, but I became increasingly bored. It's so easy at first but then it just gets unfair and repetitive. I also played the GameBoy- and Famicom-versions but it doesn't get any better. I'd almost go as far and say the MSX-version might be the best despite the sloppy scrolling. That doesn't help the game though - for me it's probably the most boring game Konami has ever produced. I have no idea how it became such a classic, in Japan at least.
Metal Gear series. The "Storytelling", cutscenes and ridiculous characters just takes me out of the game.
does Pokemon count ?? i am annoyed that the majority of the games are all the same with a coat of paint
Metal Gear is up there for me as well. Also, I can't stand the N64 Goldeneye these days. Also, Resident Evil games. Can't dig 'em.
Deus Ex. Fan wankery pushes me away. I might be more open to seriously attempt playing, if people didn't worship it to the point they **** themselves.
I hated the game at first, but it gets better towards the end (minus some really really awful levels), the game mechanics are awkward at times too, definitely way too overrated, but I am glad I played through it in the end.
We have a trend here towards Metal Gear and Mega Man! I always liked both series, but I also hardly played neither, so can't really tell. One big game franchise that I really dislike would have to be Castlevania - anything from PlayStation and up. I like the old ones for Famicom, GB and SFC, but I absolutely hate the "Castleroids" that behave like Metroid-games - respawning enemies always get me down when I have to look around the castle for a new area. I hate that so much...
Oddly enough, Legend of Zelda: Occarina of Time. it just wasn't that fun to me, and I had a better time playing A Link to the past.
Count me in on the Metal Gear boat. Well, I like Snake Eater 3D alright, but as a whole the series bores me. My big ones are FFVII-X, they never came close to IV or VI. In fact, as someone who grew up as a fan of Square, I find most everything they did after Chrono Trigger nothing but overrated garbage (yes, that includes Einhander, the most boring and overrated 2D shooter ever).
Final Fantasy VII. I've tried to play that game many times, and each time I get incredibly bored within minutes and have to turn it off. I actually have 2 copies of that game, one nearly mint. And oooo... almost to 3K posts.
There's a ton of them, really. Mega Man 1 Metroid 1 Resident Evil 1-3 Ghosts 'N Goblins/Ghouls & Ghosts Pretty much any Sierra adventure game (You didn't pick up this two pixel item at the middle of the game? Haha, you're not gonna finish the game, sucker!) And a lot more that I can't think of at the moment...
I respect what it was back then and how it changed the industry but I don't understand it at all, I gave it a good go and I couldn't get into it.
Megaman, Mario games (all of them including Kart) Halo (don't mind 2 and 3 so much) Zelda OTT (love Windwaker) Metal Gear 2 onwards, Doom, Quake 1.
Halo for me, the graphics are never that good, the villain characters stink, master chief has no appeal, and its just a standard FPS.
