Same here, it's as if Megaman after the 3rd one started losing an element of creativity. Megaman 6 was pretty decent IMO. Call me crazy, but I liked Megaman 1 and 2 largely because of it's un-detailed backgrounds in certain stages. Like Bubbleman's stage when you go underwater; it really made me want to go back to 1989 and go scuba diving in the Pacific coast waters by the piers on a hot summer day. A static clear blue sky reminded me of the warmth of the summer days back in 198x where the sun seemed to shine brighter as a kid. =)
I dont know if you were into PC gaming when DooM got released but noone had ever seen anything like it before. Still to this day it stands bright has having some of the purest and best gameplay. DooM is all about beating your own scores, doing speed runs, Not dying at Nightmare, doing entire levels with the chainsaw etc. All the while enjoying some of the best gameplay ever. If you are not into that kind of stuff then DooM is not for you. That does not mean it is overrated For me one game I cannot stand is the Metal Gear series, It just bores me. Not my style.
Here's another vote for Megaman, or at least 1-5 for sure. I do enjoy the art style and I quite liked Megaman Legends on the other hand when it was first released. Anything past FFVII is just total crap to me. I really loved the entire series up until that point, so it makes me a slightly sad that a once beloved title completely turned me off. Mortal Kombat is another "classic" title and I use that term loosely when referring to it that I find to be utter trash. I could never grasp the huge appeal it had back in the 90's when swarms of people would line up to play MK/MKII in the local arcades at the time.
This. I started playing Doom when I was about 7 or so years old, and still to this day I will fire up Ultimate Doom on the Doomsday engine and speedrun Knee Deep in the Dead on Ultra-Violence. Edit: I'm surprised to see Mega Man get so much hate. It's one of my all-time favorite series. MM3, MM8, MMX, and MM Legends were the only titles I owned as a kid, but I used to beg my mom to take me to the mom 'n' pop rental store where we could rent an NES or SNES game for $1/night, and I rented the MM games over and over again. I like the limitations you have in MM games--it requires you to rely on precision timing instead. Though as a kid I had little of that and often used a Game Genie to give me a bit of an advantage. Nowadays, I play through them without though and I enjoy them much more because of the precise demands it requires.
You can count me in on Metal gear and Mega man. Also games that I hate is the Castlevania metroid style series. Another one is FF7 why the people is so assholic fanboys with that boring game. I hate zelda OOT but love the snes one. But the most I hate to this day is the generic fucking FPS out there from ps2 and xbox to this generation. I havent played a good original FPS since Doom, Quake and also Unreal tournament.
I dislike RPG's. Specifically the non-turn based ones. No idea why, but games like Zelda aren't appealing to me and they take too long. I have no idea why I find the turn based games more appealing (although I don't find them much fun ether). Maybe it is because my first (and only) RPG from my childhood was "Paper Mario - Thousand Year Door." For whatever reason, I lose interest and get bored quickly and just can't get hooked on it. I'm a platformer guy.
Zelda timeline. Even after Nintendo have made the official timeline, it's still a tied shit with string.
So.... why? It'd be a pretty crappy thread if everyone just dropped names and didn't explain why they don't like that particular title. Who cares what other people do/say/think/feel... Have you played it? Did you enjoy it? Reading this thread is like being a room with a bunch of bitter old men. Harrumph.
Can second Castlevania... could not ever get into any game in the series at all, sotn included. Never understood the popularity.
