Pokemon games. I always tried to get into them, I started on Pokemon Gold and eventually gave up within a few weeks of dedicated play, everything just felt like a chore and was a complete bore. I hated getting interrupted by random Battles or wild Pokemon appearing and whilst it was cool getting Ho-Oh I just couldn't be bothered leveling it up due to the repetitive nature of the game. I tried getting into FireRed and Pearl later on in hopes of trying to re-invigorate that initial liking I had with the game, but it all felt cut and paste to me. Which reminds me I need to sell off those games, they're in the same boat dust collecting wise with my EA Sports Megadrive games.
I've always thought of this as a feature, not a bug. It's quaint when you think about it now, sure, but when you think about how that aspect of gameplay fits in with the horror aspect of the game, it is perfect. Technically, this was probably implemented in part because there were issues with the camera (odd camera angles being another excellent design choice), etc, but this is one thing that set RE apart from other 3D 3rd person POV action games. (the other parts are that the game wants you to slow down & soak everything in & the "cumbersome" controls add to the horror aspect. It's the videogame equivalent of yelling at the protagonist of a horror film, "NO! Don't run UP the stairs!"). Of course, different strokes for different folks. I totally understand why it is off-putting. It's an acquired taste for sure; I just happen to like the decision.
I liked DK... until the 3rd one. It was so... dry. Streets of Rage 3: Good idea, bad execution. I'm so glad Bomber Games took what didn't blow and used it in their remake (the stars). The soundtrack wasn't too great either (except for a few). This. Tomb Raider was so annoying back in the day. I can't stand it now either. When I hear people start chanting their "Lara Croft praises", it makes me want to vomit. FF7 aside, Syphon Filter is my favourite PSX game of all time. I haven't played it in almost 10 years, but I'll gladly take you up on that challenge. I liked FF7 because I was immersed in the story and the atmosphere of the game was well played for it's time, but I do agree that FFVI was a better game. If I had a dollar for every time someone got mad at me for saying that FFVI was a better game, I'd likely have enough to buy the Nexus 7 tablet I need. VII got more hype than what it was worth IMO.
Thank you for that. I wasn't a fan of FF7, I like VI and IX. I don't care that people love 7 as much as they do, but I'm tired of the few people who always say it's the best game ever and Sephiroth is amazing. It wasn't a bad game, and it did some really cool things (I always love when a game kills a PC). Just thank you for being reasonable and liking the game because you like it, and understanding others don't and it probably got too much hype.
Doom. It's not a bad game by any means, but it's one of the most overrated classic games ever and at this point it's just played out.
it was more of a mainstream revolution at the time, which is why so many look back favorably upon it. i think it needs a HD remake and an anniversary special edition.
Never heard of it and can't find it with a quick search... is it an unreleased game? Maybe a beta version of Final Fight? Or did you simply change one word in a game's title, trying to look funny? People do this a lot nowadays, and get others confused...
Speaking of Final Fight, that's a classic title I couldn't stand. I liked the first one, but then I played the second and I was like, "wtf? Now it's just too easy and kinda boring...". Then I played the third, and it was so easy, boring and uninteresting that I never played it again. Beat the game with ease and little effort. Streets of Rage was much more intuitive in my opinion. No problem. Someone had to say it. Might as well be me...
Admittedly, none of the newer ones (or XI), hence why I don't know what the current one is. All the ones up to PS1 I've at least tried.
I'll take your word for it with VIII. Never got to play it because my sister was an FF hog. Haven't played FFII. FFX killed it for me, and never played another one since they're basically the same.
I actually loved the megaman series up to megaman 4. I liked the timing aspect and the having to get everything right to win. I have moved on to the harder remakes(such as megaman battle of gamma, ultra etc...) Games I can't stand: Sonic the Hedgehog-most games after the first few levels when the game stops flowing, and Its no longer run fast and dodge. It's most annoying when he stops. Super Tecmo bowl(the original was awesome) Yoshi's story Ghost 'n Goblins (only luck, not skill will get you through it) Any Atari game you can't just pick up and play without reading the manual(rare) Also I actually dislike most modern games, because of the inherent systems to deal with display lag.
I've never really liked traditional RPGs. There's too much planning, and strategy, and slow, boring processes. I want videogames to be active and engaging. Traditional RPGs have always struck me as very rigidly designed, too.
