David Thomas...Anyone heard from him?

I'd post it here in the forums... Just so users know to look out for him. I can bet you that I'll never send him any money ever again.

Does anybody know if he has a facebook page or something?

 

He might have a shared account. Is he married?

I messaged him yesterday on eBay. I already had his username. I got nothing! No surprise there. This guy scammed all of us big time.

Quite a drive, but an easy flight. Personally, if I were down $700, I'd be quite tempted to spend a couple of hundred more to go and get it.

However, I would be taking action with my payment provider NOW. PayPal were a middle man, effectively. If they're not going to help due to their time limit (although it wouldn't hurt to contact them), contact your bank or credit card company and see if you can do a chargeback. The limit for this may be 120 days - so do it NOW. Regardless of whether you think he is genuinely ill, you are protecting your interests.

I would suggest phoning the Hollywood Police Department and asking for advice.

 

Does anybody have the polices number there in Hollywood Florida? Can someone please maybe post it? The one that said he was going to his house are you still going?

So if someone has the address, they can see if it matches one of those 2. Saw someone was asking if maybe that was not his real name. But, if he rents, he would not be listed on there.

 

Thanks for posting the info. Can someone please confirm which one is his address? I would advise everyone, once we know which one is him, to contact the police there and also let them know there will be others calling with complaints against him. Im Hoping we all can take action on this against this scammer so he doesnt get away with this.

I've contacted my bank to try and get a charge back. They say they will do everything they can to get this resolved for me.
I've got a 2pm appointment to go down and talk to them about it. I'll let you all know how things progress.

 

Its should be fine. We need to post as much info about this SOB!! The person that said he heard from david and was the one that posted about him being in a car wreck are you still around? Have you heard anymore from david? Im planning on contacting the police there, but i need to know if everybody else is going to report him as well??

 

He is still around and I asked him that recently, hes heard no more from David than we have since then.

I can call them, not sure exactly how much good it will do honestly.
I'm going to seek help from my bank first and foremost and see where that takes me.

Update:
I've gone down to my Bank and filed a claim with them. Sadly they said two of my payments went through in a way that they weren't able to dispute to try to get it back so I had to contact paypal for those payments.
the other two I had in total of about $227 they are in the process of seeing if they can credit that back to me or not.

I contacted Paypal shortly after visiting my bank and asked about the other two payments. They said that since it was beyond their normal time frame they weren't sure if they would be able to help or not but they put in a dispute and claim to have someone look into it. The lady on the line also said there has been a large amount of claims filed against his account recently as well. She gave me no promise to any real outcome of it but did say there may be a possibility of atleast crediting back one of the transactions... possibly.

Since it was paid via the "Friends and Family" option they really have no protection for us on any purchases or transactions done in that manner. But she atleast said she would see if anything could be done and that I would head back in the next 48-72 hours.

Did you explain to PayPal that you got words of him being in accident? Even though you still sent money by friends (screwed yourself), you might get a bit more support from them.

 

I did, I explained the situation in detail. Hopefully they are willing to actually do something for me. She seemed like she really wanted to help.

 

If anyone does live in Florida, it may be best to simply go knock on the door and see what happens. If he is a scammer, then he is not a very smart one, using his real name and being easily tracked down. The car accident story doesn't hold up very well if he has been making purchases on ebay and also the fact he hung up on people when they rung him.

 

Well if he's playing hardball, then I suppose someone would have to go with the police to his house.

 

Problem is, it's hearsay at the moment. If XboxSurgeon could provide concrete proof that he said that, such as an e-mail, then I guess it probably would count as fraud. I'm not saying I don't believe XboxSurgeon, but you can't go around saying that he said something if you can't prove he said it. Likewise, it's ToxicMedz word that PayPal say there are a lot of other claims. Again, not disbelieving that... but it's just something someone said on a forum that was apparently said on the phone.

Yes, it's fishy. If you're going to be taking legal action, though, you can only use fact. Trust me, I've seen people's words used against them in court.
