Advice on the circumnavigation of various consoles/products region lockouts or copyright routines = ok and actively encouraged
Advice on ripping and dumping software, which however you look at it is a step by step guide to piracy = ok and actively encouraged
The advertising and distribution of chips or other devices that enable the aforementioned circumnavigation and could be construed as open advocacy of piracy = ok and actively encouraged
The advertising and selling of pre-modded consoles that have all routines and lockouts disabled, which again could be construed as open advocacy of piracy - ok and actively encouraged
The advertising and distribution of flash cartridges which are capable of running illegally dumped ROMS which yet again could be seen as the advocacy of piracy = ok and actively encouraged
The distribution of unfinished or incomplete code that has made it's way into circulation by means not necessarily 100% legal = ok and actively encouraged
The discussion of and images of scenes of extreme violence in games = ok
The discussion of sexual predilections and certain sexual or aesthetic preferences = no
The discussion of and tastefully shot images of nice looking - albeit scantily clad - women = no no no no no fuck NO!

I'm not saying any of the above are wrong or right, just trying to point out that anyone trying to defend or decry any of the above from a moral or ethical standpoint is on a hiding to nothing. As for the ''won't someone think of the children'' schtick, Jesus, not that old chestnut. I won't even begin as to where that's wrong on so many levels.

The one thing that did strike a chord with me though was the comment that women use the site. Personally I find it incredibly patronizing and downright offensive when a man puts himself up as a moral guardian or crusader regarding what women do and don't want to see. To my mind it shows more about their own prudish beliefs than those they're trying to protect. More and more women today than ever before are becoming more sexually aware and enlightened and to treat them as anything less than the equals they've fought long and hard to be recognized as is most disingenuous to say the least.

Why won't you open that chest nut? I find it wrong on so many levels that you won't open that nut that is, apparently, wrong on so many levels due to your opinion of it being wrong on so many levels. In fact, I find it wrong on so many levels that you don't think of the children... seriously. Also wouldn't it be wrong not to stand up for women? Man... now THAT is wrong on so many levels.

    It's just...just so wrong man.

Sorry, I saw an opening... I just had to. No offense intended, for lols only.

    -------------

But basically, I think ASSEMbler just wants the content to be acceptable in as man places as possible. I mean, there are people of different races that find this stuff(naked/near naked women) offensive. Now you may think they need to get with the times or whatever, but they look at you in utter disgust and think of you as a lower class of people. It's just trying to maintain a neutral ground.

Originally, I guess there was no need for a no sexual images rule but these days quite a few minors have joined the site so the rules needed to be updated. Unfortunately you can't expect ASSEMbler to remember to update everything on this site as well as deal with his daily life. The recent images jogged his memory to update the rules.

Hehehe, you should know. That's how the Japanese work. For a whole year I was doing something they never liked in work (Seemed fine to me though) and not one person said anything until a year later when we had our reviews. F*cking idiots they are. If they told me from the beginning they could have solved the "problem" in a matter of 2 minutes. Instead they grin and bare with the "problem" for a whole year. Stupid people

I've got to be honest here when I say that the hypocrisy around here has reached a point that has put me at a posture of distancing myself from the site. I don't like saying that, but it is the truth.

*In light of recent events and rules changes I move that the dating thread in "Japan Japan" be removed. The entire thread does nothing but patronize women and treat them as nothing more than a conquest.

Who said the dating thread was for men only?
Women can talk about dating Japanese men.
We have yet to have that happen.

The thread is composed of posts by individuals.

If they post lowbrow content it only reflects poorly upon themselves,
not the whole thread nor the whole community.

I'm not here to cater to your individual social mores, opinions or philosophies.

The site is what it is because I set firm ground rules for posting that keeps
the majority of internet trash away from here.

Some people have problems with authority no matter what it is, and it's always the
same people popping up in these threads. "THE MAN IS DELETING MY VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF HALF NAKED WOMEN I AM OUTRAGED"

If you feel the site is too much for you to handle, IGN is => that way.

You should be here to talk about games, not sexy Japanese women, not
politics, not economics. There are always people who insist on doing these things.

On the Smurfs forum? INSIST ON POSTING SMURF PORN
On a honda forum? INSIST ON POSTING PICTURES OF YOUR MUSTANG

What I say here is literally the way the site works, and if I try to cater
to the needs of everyone, I please no one.

While we are mainly here to talk about games, I do like to read the opinion of my fellow gamers about other subjects, and whatnot. Nothing like a bit of gamer perspective. I like to read what other gamers have to say about other non-gaming stuff. We (gaming connoisseurs) tend to be the smarter set of people to talk about many subjects, in my opinion.

Then again, that is why we have off-topic, and well, the (wonderful) wasteland of the Unmoderated Thread.

That being said, I liked HCK's post. Also, though, now I understand why it was deleted, in terms of work filters and blocks.

lets ignore this and dismiss this with a chuckle. so we can experience this topic again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

or how about some brain storming to fix it. like having moderators explain their actions to the poster. typically multiple mods post in a topic and then another one just on a whim deletes the topic. this is not due to a rule but a whim.

Or simply, let's use the free voice to freely complain or praise, and unmoderated thread to post politics or economics when the conversation gets interesting in those themes, and everything else goes in Off Topic, following the boss's rules?

Should we really need to see anything that breaks this forum's rules, at least in the case of mature content, I'm certain just adding a link to a page that tells us where to find the materials in question, and SFW discussion on Off-Topic should be enough, right?

Quite plainly put, if you are having a lot of your posts removed you are not fitting in nor meeting the quality level for conversation required for the forum.

Would a disclaimer above the typing field stop most of the 'trash' out?

Something along the lines of '...The forum is a place to discuss games, not women, not religion etc etc'?

We will always get those people who ignore rules, even if it's tattooed on their hands. But having a disclaimer there might prevent those who follow rules. You could trail it for a bit?

very much missing the whole point. its not about me . you can try to change it into that but thats not working as you can see others have had this same issue with the lack of transparency.

    example

3-6 mods posts in a topic. they themself consider alright then one lone mod thinks its inappropriate. this is either due to lack of guidence or up to the whims of what ever the mod feels like modreration.

where are the clear rules of what is proper and just here. the current crop of rag tag rules isnt working. as per the example.

lets work out clear lines instead of rag tag rules. lets not go and attack the messenger for the message either. which has happen in the last few post about this topic

Let's get one thing straight. you are talking about the Gaming Girls thread, right. Yeah, I posted in it as did LeGIt. Personally, apart from the "flaps" image I had no problem with it. The image was removed BUT this isn't our forum, it's ASSEMblers and as such HE and ONLY HIM can make the rules. He thought the thread was inappropriate and even gave his reason as to why (which he is not obliged to do) After reading the reason I fully support him.

The bottom line is it's ASSEMBlers site, he can run it how he sees fit. And he's doing a good job at keeping out a lot of crap.

Am I to assume that you're talking about me?

Let me tell you something about me, and my Game Girls post just to give some background. My name is Charlie Maib and I post under the name HCK. That's not some made up "ILoveMetroid999" or "SuperPCEngineFan" kind of name, it's the pseudonym that I direct under because Japanese people don't like seeing western names in their films. I'm 35. I own and operate the only gravure studio in Japan that's not Japanese. It was a very, very difficult thing to get going and my team and myself had to fight and claw our way to where we are now. It just so happens that the folks at my studio, myself included, love gaming; and we've tried to incorporate this into the films we produce.

While doing a photo shoot for our upcoming release GAME GIRLS, I took some photos with my iPhone and I thought they might be of interest here. I took a look at posted forum rules in advance to make sure I didn't violate any of them and then I posted the GAME GIRLS thread. I made a mistake and missed that in one of the pictures you could see a little more than intended. We don't even show that much in the videos. I noticed that that photo was removed, and I understood why.

When the post was removed, I posted my question here because I wondered if I had done something wrong or if someone had posted something pornographic in the thread that resulted in deletion.

I did not mean any disrespect to the moderators here or to ASSEMbler. I think some people took this topic and ran with it too far, but it's just my opinion. I only had a question.

If I came across in the way you portray me in your post, it's not as I intended. But I didn't expect to be belittled.

I don't think ASSEMbler was talking about you to be honest, just in general. Many moons ago, GaijinPunch posted or linked to some stuff that would make you puke  all in fun you understand but a stop was put to that and all was calm. I think ASSEMbler was using a naked woman point of view since it's easy to understand. I'm sure no one is looking down on you at all  you've a good member here and one that ASSEMblergames is all about IMO. Hey, we all make mistakes. Done it myself a few years back. Everyone, let's move on and continue loving games and having fun. Beats whinning like a little turd any day.

i know i said i wouldn't post more in here but i just feel compelled to ...

i wasnt trying to be an ass. i just think most of the issues can be solved around here. it just seems at every turn is a chuckle fest instead of action. i understand its thankless job moderating here.

thank you guys for allowing me here and making this place what it is. you moderators have a terrible job and then you have the likes of werejag to contend with.

if any mod wants to help guide me in improving pm me
