    No problem :)

As I said, I'm not far from you so if you need anything just drop me a message and pop round.

Also, once you have confirmed they are working ok, could you please post in the feedback forum for me?

    Thanks

I got my 3 chips. Going to install tonight. I'm in US. If the BIOS is pre-installed from Bad_Ad84 can I just de-solder old chip and solder this one in? I wish the Dreamcast had a socket bios, like Neogeo.

    thanks

    Yes, that should work.

Only reason it wouldnt work is if they should have been byte swapped before programming. I just programmed the file directly to the chip as received.

Pre-installed Link83 bios works great the way you did it. Here is all I had to get it to work.

Remove old bios with dremel cut wheel
Lift legs 1 and 44 on new flash bios chip
Solder all legs to dreamcast system board, besides 1 and 44
put kapton tape under pin 1 and 44 and on rf shield facing above the bios
solder kynar wire between pin 23 and pin 1
solder kynar wire between pin 44 and near by chip pin 9, there is a pad near the "I" in IC501, used razor blade to remove green coating and then solder to pad

    That's it.

    Thanks again

Not sure how many people have used the flash in Dreamcast method with the switch, resistors, etc. But the pre-installed bios method is very easy to do, as you don't have to bend the pins and worry about if they break off. Now if they do break off its usually not an issue as you can dremel away some of the chip and expose some of the pin leg and solder to it. This just removes the "tricky" part of the mod.

    Bad_Ad84, I ordered 5 more with Link83 bio pre-installed today.

Are you going to do the Saturn bios too? I'm converting one to jamma today and would like to use region free on it as well.

    thanks

    I can do that.

However, I dont really like the idea of using a DIP42 chip and spider wiring to the original SOP pinout.

Do you know what package the original chip is? SOPxx? 44/32?

Id just like to get a chip in the same package for ease of installation. If I cant, then I can just start a group buy for the dip's.

    Here is pic of VA10 IC7 MPR-17940-T
chip has 40 pins. 20 pins each side, and style wise it looks like the Dreamcast ones you have

DarthCloud used an MX29F800TMC-90 (SOP44) flash chip instead of eprom. He says the saturn use an SOIC40.
