Modifying it isn't difficult in the least, unless you are attempting some sort of mass market production and want to rake in some cash.
The laser will get knackered if it's struggling to read your CD-Rs. But again: Dreamcasts cost $5 a piece around here, so does this really matter? It involves soldering, which is a step above what most people are prepared/equipped to do. Look, I'm not knocking the BIOS replacement option. I'm just saying that the appeal of this device is that you don't have to modify any hardware.
not that i know of but the guy whos selling them has a redsgined model so apprently people did order them and hes still selling them
I ordered one a while ago (I think it was early December, maybe middle...) As far as I can tell, these things are made to order (or he just produces a small batch at a time.) There's no big supply of them. After placing my order I received confirmation of the order, then a series of emails telling me the product had arrived at some depot (I think?!) and then, a few days ago, confirmation that the item had been sent to me... Now I'm just waiting for it to turn up. Follow this thread at dreamcast-talk for a lot more info about it... http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2661&start=50 I recommend doing some research before you place an order, though. I only found out later that a lot of games do not work with the adapter - If I'd known I'm not 100% sure I would've ordered it. Although, at that price, (less than $20 all in) it's a nice little gadget to mess around with
I didn't actually mean "here" as in the UK, I meant here as in Assemblergames (Assembler was selling Dreamcasts for $5 each recently). You'd have trouble paying for anything with US dollars here in the UK
There's a link in the thread to a new model with a built in VGA adapter. So incredibly awesome. When I get a DC again I'm ordering one of those.
Technically, yes. Some sellers might do international shipping but in many cases they won't bother. But in reality, the answer is no, as you need Chinese ID and other stuff like bank information to use Taobao. However, if you have relatives who live in China, or you live there yourself, or have friends, etc, you can do it. You could also find some random person/company/etc to pay commission to do the work for you, but it would be expensive.
From your link i found this, can you explain what is it http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=7818521031
well, first of all - it's not really fast. it's 1 week now and everything that happened was that the status changed from "Paid Deposit" to "Processing" which basically means that they ordered it and are waiting for the arrival (next status is "Arrived Here"). so long....
Btw, Couldn't a group purchase be done about this one to save from the shipping? I am very interested in this. I wanna buy it.
