Hey @kazade , I got my wifi dongle in. Could you provide a quick tutorial on how to setup wifi on the DreamPi? The DreamPi still makes DCHP requests to eth0 instead of the wifi interface. I used this guide here https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/wireless-cli.md and this one http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.co...igure-a-usb-wifi-dongle-from-the-command-line

First one did not do anything, second broke the software, I cannot even login. Says "Cannot execute /bin/bash: Cannot allocate memory". Probably have to reinstall the DreamPi image

I'm not really trying to stay up later than I should configuring this. I'd appreciate if you type up a guide for DreamPi specifically. Rather than trying a bunch of other guides I was looking at without success
Perhaps add it to a DreamPi FAQ section on your site

I just saw you released 1.2. I'll try it with my ethernet issue. I also tried this https://coderwall.com/p/v290ta/raspberry-pi-wifi-setup-with-wpa2-psk-aes but that did not work either. Caused the modem to not answer. The second light does not come on at all after third guide was followed

    My router uses WPA2

I'll see if I can come up with some instructions during my lunch break. I have a Dreamcast at work that I can play with :)

Well one of the red phone line wires broke away from the solder at some point. Do not feel like soldering now, 3am. Tomorrow night after work I'll fix that and try the wifi again

    ----

Edit: It would be nice if someone identified phone cables with thick/sturdy internal wires to make voltage induction easier. The slightest tension in the two i've made results in the wires breaking away from the solder. It does not matter if you tin the wire

Perhaps I should use hot glue over the solder joint(s) to ensure this does not happen in the future

@TerdFerguson Sorry I left my WiFi dongle at home so I couldn't test (doh!) but I think what I can do to make life easier is properly setup NetworkManager on the image which should make any WiFi configuration more straightforward.

I might also take this opportunity to strip down the image, maybe switch to Systemd for init and try to get a faster boot time :)

YES alright, to sum it up, my father (we're working on this together) ordered another modem that newagesolder was using without telling me, until yesterday when i told him of the recommended modems, it came in while i was at school today, and after some failure with web browser 3.0, about 12 times failure, i atempted to conect with quake 3, AND IT WORKED FIRST TRY!, thanks for the help, i would have just kept thinking it was the line voltage inducer and then just gotten johns kit otherwise, i dont have any other non-burned online games to test it with, but i'm going to ignore my morals and try to join the dreamcast live 4x4 evo chat room tonight, just this once

EDIT: i played a full game of quake with another person(or a bot, i dont know, but they where talking over text), decent speed, the person was most definitely a mean person, but it showed me the connection speed to expect

There is no rush by any means, I probably will not fix the voltage inducer until Friday night. But I'd like to have this working for the weekend, have you looked into proper wifi configs?

Well after installing the 1.2 image and fixing my line voltage, it now works with Ethernet. At least I have the wifi dongle now

I've finally received my Dell NW147 and it works perfectly with version 1.2 (I haven't tried older ones). I'll now recommend this one along with the unbranded one I'm currently linking. I'll throw together a "recommended hardware" page at some point.

Weirdly I've been having trouble with my "work Dreamcast" using a Pi 2, not sure what the problem is yet - possibly the line voltage inducer batteries are too low - need to solder another prototype PCB to a cable :p

Hey, I've just come back to using DreamPi (1.2). The reconnect issues I had before appear to be fixed, great work =D. Though, PSO still doesn't work for me. I'm currently working on making one of my sites compatible with Dreamkey 3.0.

Yeah I'm keeping an eye on it, I really hope they announce a pizero with Wi-Fi in the near future. That would be ideal!

That is great because that means the price of the Pi 2 will fall and make setting up a DreamPi much cheaper, hopefully

I hope so. Even the Zero is sufficient enough for making the Dream Pi so if people would stop buying them all up and reselling and charging more for them we could actually have a $5 Pi. But the way it has been for a few months since the thing launched it is difficult to even get your hands on one unless you pay way more than suggested retail price.
