theres a video of it running somewhere in the thread, anyone expecting it to be totally kickass and run everything is gonna be disappointed
The Super 8 isn't perfect either. If you want to play 8bit Nintendo games you need to buy a NES or Famicom system. Unofficial hardware all have various problems with compatibility or sound or video quality.
There's only one NES meu for that N64 that actually works, and that's the Neon64 by HCS... the previous vnes64 (rocknes64) was too slow for anyone to bother using. Anyway a nice feature for the Everdrive for sure, now I no longer need by PowerPak ;-)
The emulator can't compare with a real NES and PowerPAK. If it meets your needs then that's fine, but few if any NES emulators accurately emulate the system. The ones that are pretty accurate need alot more computing power than the N64 has available. I think it was right to say it's a bonus to run homebrew on the EverDrive 64, but you shouldn't think of running some NES emulator on it as a key feature. He didn't write the emulator himself.
Has anyone tried other homebrew on this yet? MAME64 MAME88 VNES64 and various scene demos? Just curious if the compatibility is the same (or better) than a Doctor v64.
Gonna PM you a megaupload link of various emulators and homebrew. Added an attachment for file contents.
Last I checked the video quality was mainly washed out colors. If you're trapped on a deserted island somewhere and find yourself a generator, TV and a bunch of games you'll be driving a nail through your dick with a coconut before you want a Super 8. Can't wait to get a comparison of the two carts, though I have a feeling I'll be buying Krikzz's if not simply due to the price tag but the SD usage over CF.
I've never tried Super 8 for SNES nor for Nintendo 64. I personally interested only for games using MMC chips so probably super 8 will boot those games correctly. Washed colours are expected.
Super 8/Tristar would run most of those games, but it's a pretty dull device really - might as well use a famiclone (or better yet a real NES) since it's functionally mostly separate from the SNES/N64, only using controller data. The N64 pad is poorly suited to NES games anyway. Fun as a weird little pirate-ish device but not good for gaming.
I tried some games running with Neon64 when I had my Mr Backup Z64 setup a couple of years ago, it ran most games fine, I played Excitebike with it. Remember it is emulation, so you get what you expect from that, however it felt like the real thing  (keep in mind I am not into NES). Biggest benefit with NES emu was that the D-pad finally got a use on my N64 joypad
Any chance you could make the link public for others who want to try them on the real hardware? I may have a few that aren't listed: nes-Contra.zip nes-FinalF.zip nes-Golf.zip TSF-NUfa.zip Tshirt.zip MSFTUG.zip Mame88.zip heavy64.zip I believe I may have some unreleased scene demos from ATX too, but I have to find the floppies (yep.. :lol KRIKzz, I have a complete set of N64 roms that are cracked to use with my Doctor V64 256MB copier, do you know if these patches will cause problems on the Everdrive64? Also, can you explain why these games will not work? From what I recall I was able to play these on the V64 using LAC's BootEmu. I'm not 100% sure on this though. It's been a while. Thanks!
