One thing I'll point out - the routines for reading/writing save memory that do DMA have two paths: if the destination is at least DMA aligned (divisible by 8) it DMAs straight to the destination; if the destination is not aligned, it DMAs to an aligned buffer, then uses memcpy to copy the data to the destination. Just in case you were wondering.
I cannot answer your question. Its a valid one. However... You are quoting the 64drive's website. This is NOT the 64drive. This is the EverDrive64.
I'm not sure what website your quoting? but i'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the EverDrive 64 [EDIT] Doh! Took too long to type this reply, and StoneAgeGamer has posted above confirming its nothing to do with the EverDrive 64. I haven't actually tested those two racing games, in my guide I said:- By which I meant that there are so few PAL exclusive N64 games that they will probably of little concern to most NTSC gamers, however it seems I was mistaken! There are two problems with running PAL N64 games on an NTSC N64 console:- - Firstly, the game could display a regional lockout screen and will not let you play. Not all games have this though, so its very much a case of 'try it and see'. Usually this region check can be patched out though, if it hasnt been already been done years ago on a 'fixed' ROM. - Secondly, N64 games usually set the hertz rate in software, so more than likely the games will try and run in the original 50Hz mode on an NTSC N64 (Unless patched as mentioned above) The Composite and S-Video output will still be NTSC encoded as this is set in hardware, so you may get a strange mix of NTSC 50Hz output, and I dont know how TV's in different countries would handle this signal. I use an RGB modded N64 so the video encoding method doesnt matter to me (RGB is not NTSC or PAL encoded) so only the hertz rate is important, and since my TV is European its happy to accept both 50Hz and 60Hz signals. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Having said all that, from a quick google search I found:- F-1 World Grand Prix II (E) (M4) [f1] (NTSC) F1 Racing Championship (E) (M5) [f1] (NTSC) I imagine these would work fine on an NTSC N64. There is also:- Premier Manager 64 (E) [f2] (NTSC100%) (I assume this is better than the [f1] version) and as already mentioned, there is a US Taz Express called:- Taz Express (USA) (Proto).n64 and a patch is available for 40 Winks:- http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/539/ and there may even be a pre-patched version floating about. So that should cover all the PAL exclusive N64 games ;-)
i hate to ask but sense i am on a mac there is no up to date ips patchers so i can't run them on the current mac os ,so can someone with a windows machines patch a copy of 40 winks for me please, and upload it to mediafire or megaupload, nvm i found one http://www.emuparadise.org/Nintendo_64_ROMs/40_Winks_(Europe)_(En,Es,It)_(Proto)/39550-download. played this witha emulator and it didn't give me a message
I can see my living room in your avatar. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/image.php?u=63303&dateline=1304602989 @KRIKzz... looking good. Can't wait!
Emulators are not the same as real hardware, and that link is just the original 40 Winks ROM file without the patch applied (Also I dont think your meant to link to sites like that ) Why is everyone worrying about compatability when the EverDrive 64 hasn't even been released yet? Surely people can wait until its released before worrying about compatability with the few PAL exclusive games
hey guys i still can't patch it on mac osx cause all the software does is corrupt the image , can someone on a windows machine patch 40 winks for me please and upload it to mediafire . please!!!!
Maybe krizz can add a function to his everdrive where it checks if there is an ips/aps patch file with the same name as the rom and then apply it on the fly. The Z64 could do such a thing.
If you're into fringe tech like this then sooner or later you'll need to run bootcamp. Obscure software will be written for Windows primarily and if you want access to that then just suck up your OS pride and get on with it. Everyone I know who has a Mac as their primary machine has come to grips with this, I don't know why it's such a psychological hurdle for some people.
I'm assuming you have converted the ROM into a non-byteswapped Z64 file before trying to apply the patch? The original 40 Winks ROM is byteswapped and it needs to be converted before applying the IPS patch, this is mentioned in the included 'Readme' file.
no how would i do that ? p.s if it takes programming knowledge then i'm won't be able to do it , as i know not how to program
You will need to find a hex editor program with a byteswapping option that will run on OSX, or use a program called 'Tool64' which runs on Windows:- http://www.emutalk.net/threads/12075-Tool64-1.11-Beta ...No offense but you might want do a bit more reading/googling before asking more questions?
Ucon64 will do just about anything you need to get done (byteswapping, IPS patching, etc..). It has a gui too. Just Google for it.
Whoops When it's a major reason behind someone's interest in such a device, it doesn't seem out of line to ask unless it's just way too early for the developer to give an answer one way or another (Which would certainly be understandable if that was the case). Who would want to preorder when that day comes when they don't know the answer to an important question beforehand? And if the competition does it, it's certainly nice to know as early as possible where things stand so you can make a informed decision on which device to support, if you should hold off and purchase the later product, etc. I don't really see why we should wait until the product launches to start asking questions.
The comment was not directed at anyone in particular, its just the last few pages of this thread have been all about regional compatability for a product thats still in development (Plus certain people already seem desperate for ROM's) There are plenty of features KRIKzz could yet impliment before release (Such as region patching ROM's through the menu before loading) Plus these are the sort of features that could be added at a later date through an OS update. If we were at or near the preorder stage I would agree with what your saying, but (from my understanding) the EverDrive 64 is still at the beta/testing/development stage with KRIKzz working on FlashRAM save support. In my opinion hardware compatibility needs to come first (i.e. the PCB design and Altera firmware) software compatability comes second since it can be easily updated at a later date (I know this from experience having been a tester for the NEO N64 Myth Cart) I hope that makes sense  Plus if anyone is that desperate to ensure 100% region compability after all I have said in my previous posts, then I recommend they buy the opposite region N64 console. N64 consoles are not that expensive nowadays, and owning an NTSC and PAL N64 console (Plus the corresponding CIC chips) ensures you can play all N64 games. [EDIT] I guess my main gripe is people ask so many questions but seemingly never even try to do their own research first.
i want say something about region compatimility: there is no magic, if i can run any game which not try to check system physycally, then all other backup units can do same thing, if i can't run some games which perform system check and show the message like "designed only for PAL" then all other backup units can't run such games also. so all quaestions about region stuff that is not a everdrive specific questions, it is global questions about backup hardware and region compatibility. question is not "everdrive can?", question is "bacup hardware can?". i guess that all the answers have been given many years ago and they available in world wide web
No, because you can patch the "designed only for PAL" roms with the backup hardware so they will work. The Z64 could do that back then. Maybe this will help: "Fixing-Doc - Part 1.1 by Hotblack/Dextrose 1999" It would be sweet if the Everdrive64 could force a region by patching a rom like in aboves document.
Your photo is it? :-0 Oh, just looked at your site, and it is! The blog I got it off must of stole your images. Dodgy.. Apologies for using it :S
