The Dreamshell is picky to what SD cards it reads with the newer versions and a safe bet is to use class 10 or better. The older Dreamshell accepts just about anything and really a faster card will only benefit you in considering they are cheap nowadays.

In case it is useful for anybody buying one of these adapters with a PAL VA1 console similar to mine:

Using a Blue Sandisk 4GB class 4 SDHC card works fine with with Dreamshell 4.0 RC3

The following genuine Sandisk cards did not work consistently
    Blue 2GB class 2
    Blue 8GB class 4 SDHC
    Ultra 16GB class 10 SDHC

Made a slight design change to the new batch of these and also adjusted shipping pricing for International Orders, new design can be seen on first post right above the Addon Board. There will be no more wire install since only 2 or 3 people ever ordered the wire install so therefore all orders come with Ribbon and Addon Board.

Great to hear! Hopefully you have a good SD Card to use with it as that seems to be the main issue people have.

I am very interested in the add-on board with ribbon cable, once I get my paycheck on the 5th I will send a payment your way. Would you be able to do a green LED?

Paypal usually has a name and address associated with it so that is usually where I send it. If you have a different address in mind send me a PM.

Do these allow you to reflash the Dreamcast BIOS? Or are they not that? I already own a SD card reader for my Dreamcast that plugs into the back after all.

This is essentially the same, if you want to flash the bios you need the new bios piggybacking the original with a switch to enable switching between the two. You can't flash the original bios as it's not rewritable.

Oh okay, then I'll just keep my Dreamcast the way it is. Not like there is any real advantage to flashing, just convince of not having to use the disc I'm assuming.

Hello, still kind of new to this. Installed the mod and seemed fine. When running the booter, there isn't a 'boot from sd' option, just boot from ram or cd. Is this sign of an incompatible sd? was a sandisk sdhc 8gb class 4.

It could be the SD but then again it might be the install and it's not seeing the card reader. Could you post pictures of the install and it's best to use a Class 10 or better SD card. Did you put the necessary files on the SD card to boot off of it? If I remember correctly the Dreamshell will detect the SD card and boot from it automatically and when I had issues it was the SD card but I would like to see the install pics if possible.

no problem. I'll get some up. The install is the obvious choice, was trying to avoid completely tearing apart again :p. I thought the install went fine, except there is that little notch in the adapter board that solders to the serial port to make space for the R620 chip which was just a little too big to fit snugly beside it instead of on top. Let me know what you think, I used my weller wesd51 with a super fine tip set to about 600F. Had no problem getting the solder to flow, took a little bit to get the adapter seated nicely before i soldered, it felts secure. Let me know what you think, Thanks!

also i do have the stuff on the sd card. it was fairly straight forward.
