I disagree. Yes, the QTE's were the majority of the gameplay and the story had holes (though I don't remember any really huge plot holes), but it was the overall experience which was excellent. It's certainly not unique, but it is a genre that is severely underrepresented nowadays.

There are other big ones, but Ethan's blackouts and their connection with the murders make absolutely no sense considering who the Origami Killer turns out to be. It's obvious that the whole thing was written into the plot just to mislead the player.

Even as a massive Treasure fanboy I have to say they don't have a perfect record as several of their games have been sub-par: Advance Guardian Heroes, that Silpheed game on PS2 and Stretch Panic, for example.

True true, Though I don't think Sipheed was THAT bad. Streach Panic was if anything creative. But I'll give you Advance Guardian Heroes it's everything the original wasn't in a bad way.

Thank you, for explaining that. Playing Heavy Rain definitely was a great experience. There are so few games of its kind

You probably haven't played the old LucasArts adventures, so do yourself a favor and play at least the ones from 1990-95 - then you'll see just how shit Heavy Rain really is.

    Possible spoiler alert!

I don't think the point was just to mislead the player. He was obviously having psychological problems after what happened to his son, so the blackouts were probably a result of that. Simply because it didn't lead to the result you thought it would doesn't make it a plot hole.

Personally I think it was a great game, and I've played and enjoyed plenty of older LucasArts adventure games. What was really interesting about it to me was that it was like an interactive movie - which has obviously been done before, but never to that level of realism. As far as gameplay, there was nothing really new or unique about it, but the overall experience of the game is pretty unique, I think.

Some of the murders happened at the same time as the blackouts and Ethan would be holding an origami shape after them, which makes no sense since the actual murderer wouldn't know when Ethan'd be having a blackout. The only explanation would be if the murderer actually followed Ethan around 24/7, or of course it could be the world's biggest coincidence that Ethan would blackout and be holding an origami shape at the same time someone called the Origami Killer murders someone. Either way it's implausible.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. It's been a while since I've played it. So, maybe it had some plot holes. I still enjoyed it anyway.

The whole thing was just an unused plot device that was never fully written and just left in as an early red herring.

An awful lot if you don't like their games. I think both RSG and Ikaruga are well over rated.

Kotaku is the Info Wars of Video game news sites and I have been known to be as abusive to it's writers on Twitter, as I am to Alex Jones.

I don't like RSG, but I do like Ikaruga a great deal even if it's just a play on Silhouette Mirage's mechanics.
